I realize that the trailer for Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman’s home-invasion horror flick, The Strangers (below), has been out for a bit, but I just saw it this weekend in front of Smart People and… I totally jumped in my seat. I won’t ruin your viewing experience by revealing the shot that made me whimper, but I will ask you to share the trailers that frightened you. What’s been the scariest? That’s a beautiful thing, if you think about it: The ability to get us that wound up in two minutes…

The scariest trailer I ever saw was the one Slezak (?) posted here a few months ago w/ Jessica Simpson (in a Pvt Benjamin ripoff flick). Egad
I remember when I was a kid catching a trailer for “An American Werewolf in London”. At one point the camera pulls in on a close up of the male lead’s face, supposedly sleeping. Suddenly he wakes opening his eyes and they’re yellow, his teeth fangs, etc. Wound me up enough to sleep with the light on for a night or two.
The trailer for the remake of Dawn of the Dead scared the crap out of me. The baby in the carriage. It makes me cry a little just thinking about it.
The trailer for The Strangers freaked me out, too… and I don’t usually get freaked out at trailers. Something about the shadowy figures invading your home and just appearing and disappearing at random just creeps me out.
there was a really great trailer for this exorcism-type flick with Winona Ryder called “Lost Souls”, the trailer had a perfect blend of mystery, style, editing and mood. After the trailer was over i extremely yelled out “best trailer ever!” and couldnt wait to see it. It came out, and I was saddened to know it was “worst movie ever!”
“because you were home” – messed up and really creepy.
The image of basically the nuclear family: dad, mom and kid in those weird masks.
DON’T from Grindhouse. That was awesome. lol.
OMG I saw this trailer for the first time Friday before “Prom Night” – this two minute clip was scarier than that entire terrible movie. Seriously, people in the theater SCREAMED at that first masked person.
Remember the trailer for _Twister_? That was terrifying… for two shots: first, the family trapped in the basement–with the lights flickering on and off. Second, for the final shot–the car barrelling straight atcha. Alas… the filmmakers played the first scene straight (no flickering–which, to me, was the whole POINT), and the second was made just for the trailer. What a ripoff.
Way to scary for me to see – however – Scott Speedman is looking extremely hot and handsome.
“The Others” For no other reason than the very last shot with Nicole Kidman walking up and asking the ghost child what it did with her daughter and the ghost responding:
“I AM your daughter.”
(shudder)
Okay….I’m not sleeping tonight….the boogie man in the door way is enough to keep me away.
THAT LOOKED AMAZING AHHHHHH
I want to see it. NOW.
DONT from grindhouse was perfect. why isn’t that on the dvdssssss???
I watched this trailer a couple of times On Demand (there’s just not enough Scott Speedman in the movies, HOT). I’m old and cynical though and I believe politicians before I believe movie trailers — the biggest POS movie can be made to look awesome in 120 seconds.
Thanks for raining on my parade, La La Love.
