Today, Meshach Taylor, who played Anthony on Designing Women, turns 61. Searching for a clip, I stumbled onto the classic one of Suzanne (Delta Burke) and her gun at self-defense class, below. (Say it, Mary Jo: "No! 9-1-1-!") Which episode will you never forget?

The one where they performed as the Supremes and Suzanne was in blackface. There was that storyline plus a friend who was facing an abusive husband in the same episode. How did they do it?
con-su-e-la!!
Oh, Mandi – it’s so nice to know I am not the only one who really loved this show! My favorite episode had to be the one with Mary Jo and the almost boob job, with the one where they go camping and get hit on by the creepy redneck/Deliverance guys a close second.
The one where Julia gets her head caught in the banister at the governor’s mansion.
The one where Suzanne revisits her pageant days and Julia stands up for her sister, “That, Marjorie, just so you know…is the real night that the lights went out in Geog-ia!”–a classic!
I liked any ep when Julia told somebody off. Which was pretty much every episode. My fave speech was her telling off Ray Don Simpson, who tried to introduce himself at a bar.
Julia was all, “There’s no need for introductions, Ray Don, we know who you are. You’re the guy who is always wherever women gather or try to be alone. You want to eat with us when we’re dining in hotels, you want to know if the book we’re reading is any good, or if you can keep up company on the plane. And I want to thank you, Ray Don, on behalf of all the women in the world, for your unfailing attention and concern. But read my lips and remember, as hard as it is to believe, sometimes we like talking just to each other, and sometimes we like just being alone.
Any scene with Alice Ghostley… in particular, her touching seranade of “Black Man, Black Man” to Meschach Taylor
Favorite episode, which marked the series going from good to great, was when Julia mooned the fashion show, and Suzanne fired her semi automatic from her second story window.
I’m with Shaun on the “Night the lights went out in Georgia…” ep. I also liked the one where Julia was in the fashion show and her dress got caught in her pantyhose, so she ended up mooning everyone.
My favorite episode, as well as my mother’s, is the one where Bernice’s niece tries to have her declared incompetent. So many great lines from that one half-hour alone:
Julia: “This is the South…and we’re proud of our crazy people.”
Charlene (reading about an invasion of African bees into the U.S.): “Our bees must be scared to death!”
Bernice (commenting on her niece’s tendency to ask how the fish is at a fast food restaurant): “It’s square fish, Phyllis!”
Julia: “He’s [the judge] saying Bernice is not crazy…but we are.”
Big Haas and Little Falsie – classic.
Big Haas and Little Falsie – classic.
Mary Jo: “Julia, we have been big FOOLS! These things are POWER!”
I heart Designing Women. I have them all Tivo’d and rewatch constantly. Love the earlier ones with suzanne and the later ones with BJ but not that little blone cousin, she bugged and just wasn’t funny. But Carlene was a good edition, I suppose, but nothing like the early ones with Suzanne.
loved the one where suzanne and anthony who had previously hated each other get to be friends when they have to stay together at that hotel and they shock everyone when they come back and are discussing how she needs to dress. also loved the episode where alice sings black man. there were very few that i didn’t love and it was one of the best shows ever created!!
