A live-action Eddie Murphy movie that looks… funny? The Meet Dave trailer (below) has been floating around for a few days, but I just finally took a look. (It’s not coming out till July — why rush?) My thoughts:
1) I wonder if we’ll get a tribute to Woody Allen’s Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask somewhere in here…
2) Is that white suit Eddie sports a way for him to try out wardrobe for the planned Fantasy Island feature?
3) That’s arguably the best man-gets-hit-by-car scene since Meet Joe Black.
4) I don’t believe in animal abuse, but Murphy kicking that cat = comedy.
5) Gabrielle Union should be a bigger star.
6) Marc Blucas is working!
7) I’ve seen the little-people-try-not-to-get-trampled-or-run-over thing too many times to find Little Eddie (or any other of the other little people) funny outside of Big Eddie’s body.

But I thought that idesa was already accomplished with The attack of the 50 Foot Woman? Well, hopefully Eddie will return to his true comedic roots. Norbit was HOOOORIBLE!!
Ahhhhh. Yikes.
I’m pretty sure this is Eddie Murphy flipping the bird at the Academy for not giving him the “Dreamgirls” trophy. “You want lowest common denominator Eddie Murphy?” he’s saying. “I’ll GIVE you lowest common denominator Eddie Murphy!”
I didn’t really laugh, but at least he’s not in a fat suit. Moving up in the world, Eddie.
And people think this looks funny because…? I mean, not only do I have almost no respect for Eddie Murphy after Norbit, but this trailer did not make me laugh at all. In any way. Like the trailer for “The Hottie and the Nottie”. Or the trailer for, well, “Norbit”. Anchorman is 10 billion times better than this. Shame on anyone who would see this. Shame.
i nearly peed on myself when i saw him kick the cat and Gabrielle slap him on the back of his head. I think I have a weird problem. I was equally tickled when I saw the part in Anchorman when Jack Black kicks Ron Burgundy’s dog off the bridge. Back off PETA.
i forgot to say that even though that part is funny, i’m not going to the movies to see it or even rent it. that’s what cable is for.

Marc Blucas WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
and I agree about Gabby Union
Oh I see, Innerspace, sort of. The cat getting kicked was a bit amusing. Still Coming to America and Trading Places were his best works when it came to comedy in movies.
I’m happy Marc still gets the love.
But this movie? Oh boy.
ohh, my Lord. I am so going to see this. Ppl who didn’t think it was funny, thats what the magic word demograpic is for.
The annoying thing, is that Eddie Murphy has so much comedic talent. Yet, he continues to crank out one bad comedey after another. I don’t get it. Does he really like these movies? I’ll pass on this & go watch “Trading Places.”
Sadly, I think the problem is that Eddie seems to be stuck in this idea these days that he needs to have some fantastic element to his comedy in order to be funny–Hey, it’s Eddie in a fat suit! It’s Eddie in space! It’s Eddie playing nine roles in top-notch makeup! It’s Eddie as a robot! I wish he would stop trying to be a cartoon and get back to being classic, just-plain-funny Eddie.
*sigh*
I’m most excited about Marc being in this. Elizabeth Banks looks really good too, I love her. I’m not so sure about the rest of it. It looks funny. Stupid but funny regardless.
I think eddie murphy is getting to big for his britches he is cool but he is concede
