Who's got momentum heading into tonight's 'Idol'?

Dawnie Walton and I discuss Jason Castro’s heartthrob potential, Carly ”Irish girl” Smithson’s "forgettable" factor, and whether David Cook’s "Eleanor Rigby" was really all that. Ch-ch-check it out, then weigh in with your own thoughts in the comments section below.

Dawnie nailed it — despite massive pimping, Jason Castro’s looks and disarming charm have made him a front-runner heartthrob. As some commenters on Popwatch have noted, in his pretty eyes and adorable dim-bulb responsesto interviews, he really is like a young John Travolta as Barbarino in “Welcome Back, Kotter”. Up your nose with a rubber hose! Oh yeah, and he can sing — his itunes downloads’ popularity are 2nd only to Archuleta’s Imagine…….

I meant Jason is doing well despite massive pimping FOR MICHAEL JOHNS…. ;)

It’s even in the profile. Barbarino video: youtube.com/watch?v=ll9-jEtEiiI

Yeah, Jason is the hearthrob for the Jack Johnson groupies.

I don’t know, I lost respect for David Cook when I heard that his rendition of Hello was actually a version Guster used to perform. Really Cook? Guster?

Chikezie came in 1st on every critic’s list, but everybody’s talking about everybody else but Chikizie. It’s as though HE IS THE ONE that’s forgettable. Too bad. I just hope he makes it to the top 10.

If it was Guster’s version, it’s better than Cake’s cover of “I will Survive”. Then again, I just hate that song anyway.

Sallyinchicago, I’m with you! No one’s talking about Chikezie, but I think he was awesome last week and definitely deserves some blogging love!

Woah, I said a few weeks ago that Castro’d be a hit with the John Mayer crowd and now EW’s people get props for saying he’ll hit with the Jack Johnson crowd. Isn’t that the same crowd? You stole my stuff EW, and you are now ON NOTICE.
J/k My money’s still on Micheal “sweaty forehead” Johns and Chikezie if he can keep up the momentum. Dawnie’s right that Carly’s not memorable even if she’s talented.

I’m finally truly vested in AI this season. Took getting to Beatles night to do it – I think it had something to do with making them do themes for the semis. In any case – I would like to think that Carly has the momentum going into tonight’s episode. I was expecting an earlier ‘poppier’ Beatles tune but she really did a great job with Come Together. Live that is. Listening to the itunes snippit she sounds like Minnie Mouse. Is it just me? Without a doubt Dave Cook has piqued my interest and Michael Johns has completely lost it. And here’s to hoping that an extra Beatles night means NO Latin night later in the season!

I think you need at least 3 solid weeks of momentum before I’d worry about someone. One bad performance could be a deathknell.

who cares, Slezak needs to get back to what he does best! commenting on pop queens making headlines! hurry up and give us a breakdown analysis of Madge’s new album cover.

I for one can’t stand Jack Johnson. But Jason Castro makes me swoon! Just for the record…

Chikezie was awesome and it kind of came out of nowhere. I even downloaded his version of “She’s A Woman” and I have never downloaded a song that was sung during the seasons preformances. Hopefully he can keep it up.

David Cook’s “Eleanor Rigby” was all that and a bag of chips. Whatever that means. I think the song still retained it’s meaning & merit. Also, I like Carly. She isn’t as “rocking” as I wish, but her voice is excellent. I also really like Brook White & Jason Castro. I’m actually excited about the contestants this year. I haven’t been so invested since Chris Daughtry was on the show.
