Unless you’ve been following the ongoing developments of this crazy little film called The Incredible Hulk — a reboot of Marvel’s un-jolly green giant, starring Edward Norton — you might come upon this spot and not know what you’re going to get.
Much like the recent trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy sequel, it doesn’t tip its superheroic hand until very late. You could reasonably think that this is simply a mad-science, Fugitive-style thriller about a man with a secret on the run from the Law. That is, until Tim Roth gets injected with something unky and turns into a giant CG abomination, and Norton’s Bruce Banner gets tossed out of a chopper (a scene cribbed straight from the comics) and hits the ground as the Hulk. Then it’s abundantly clear what kind of movie we’re looking at: One in which good actors are, inevitably, relegated to the sidelines as totally fake-looking CG creatures duke it out, destroying New York — again — in the process.
Will I see it? Probably. I am a geek, therefore I must go. But I’m not looking forward to it nearly as much as I am Iron Man. How about you?

Iron man looks like fun, The Incredible Hulk looks like it might take itself too seriously. Yes I will go. And hate myself the next day for it.
Marvel got a nutguard for the first Hulk Movie thanks to some of the better Marvel fare that came out afterwards. But Hulk the remake’s coming on the heels of Spider Man III, Ghost Rider and FFII, all of which were pretty underwhelming. Iron Man looks like the first time Marvel gets it right since the Spider Man (I&II) and X men Flicks.
Luckily for Hulk it comes out before Dark Knight. If it came out after both Iron Man and Dark Knight then it might be in for a rough ride.
re: “fake-looking CG creatures” What exactly does a real-looking CG Hulk look like?
I don’t know. I’m kind of underwhelmed by this trailer. However, I basically trust Edward Norton with my life, so yeah, I’ll give a shot. Maybe this was just a case of bad editing.
Well, it doesn’t look terrible. We’ll wait until it’s out on DVD and rent or buy it. I just hope this Hulk can’t jump from mountain to mountain; that was kind of dumb.
if the plot is good, i’ll think about it. but as of right now, i won’t be watching Hulk or Speed Racer in theaters. I could change my mind. After all, after watching the longer trailer of Iron Man, I’ve changed my mind about it.
this puny human will be there.
to Cliff: I get yer joke, but there is a difference. Real Looking CGI: Gollum, Kong, The Pirates of The Caribbean. Fake Looking CGI: Spiderman, The Hulk, the monsters in 10,000 BC. CGI animators need to tone it down with the “bouncing” and flowing and get with the gravity — I mean, even if i WHIP my head to the side, every hair does not bounce and wave and fall into place. Too much. As to the movie. No. At best, DVD 16 months from now.
what’s not to love? ed norton, monsters fighting each other to the death in ny? come on! it’ll probably be a bit campy & fun!!
Unless the reviews are horrid I’ll likely see it. Of course, bad reviews kept me away from the last one, so I’mnot holding out hope. I love Edward Norton, diva though he might be, but then I kinda liked Bana too, but that didn’t get me to fork over $10 the first time.
Whats wrong the the Hulk? Sure this trailer didnt look overly exciting but “fake looking CG monster?” There is nothing “real” about the hulk to begin with so the expectations are kinda ridiculous. I see where Ang Lee was trying to go witht the 1st film unfortunately it didnt come accross too well. This one looks much more exciting and if it crosses over with Iron Man like they said its gonna make this film stand out all the more better…
i’m always a fan of ed norton in a beater.
Edward Norton’s hotness is enough to see it. I’ll just excuse it by saying my boyfriend made me go.
I am holding judgment. I enjoyed the ang lee hulk. This one does look to CG but if you look at early versions of Ironman it was bad CG. then got heck alot better. Give it time it has time to render still.
Marc, I completely agree with you. I’ll check this out (mainly because Edward Norton is an amazing actor), but I’m more stoked about Iron Man. I think the trailer is promising. I am intrigued to see the different direction they take with this one, although I liked Ang Lee’s version (maybe one of the few who did).
I do love Edward Norton but why is the Hulk so big? The end of the clip with the both of them running into each other looks kind of cheesy and overdone. We’ll see. Going to see a movie these days will put you in the poor house, so I am very selective with the movies I go see. I will wait on the reviews. Did I mention how much I love Edward Norton?
I’m probably in the minority here, but I liked Ang Lee’s HULK a lot. So I don’t feel the need to see some “rebooted” version of the same stuff. Since I have also sworn off sequels, remakes and franchise films, Hollywood is not going to get my time and money on this one.
love Ed Norton, but I always think the HUlk would be best served as a monster movie, not a superhero movie….I will see it anyway….if I calculated how much money I have speant on comic books and comic book related stuff in my life….the amount is hulk sized (first movie!)
“I basically trust Edward Norton with my life”
Me too, pretty much. Now it seems he’s about as enthusiastic as everyone else and is trying to get it re-edited. I don’t care if it’s a bratty move – if he parts ways with the film, I will too.
marc in nyc: “I always think the Hulk would be best served as a monster movie, not a superhero movie.” I agree 100%
That said, Iron Man is the “newer” of the two franchises, so it obviously has more appeal. But Hulk is more famous than Iron Man, and Edward Norton is a better actor than Robert Downey Jr. But Downey is better cast for his movie. I just don’t know…
I’ll see both movies (duh) But if I had to guess, I’m takin the long shot and saying Hulk will be better than Iron Man.
What people will soon realize is this is the Epic movie adventure Indy was SUPPOESED to be- but it’ll have better acting, a better script- and a 15 + minute fight scene at the end, btw/ TWO monsters tearing up NY!
(See ya, Cloverfield!)
Now, switching away from Google is very hard. ,
