Another reason to love Catherine O'Hara...

Filed under: Movies and tagged: ,

Not that we needed one. (Her appearances in Christopher Guest’s movies, like For Your Consideration, below, have already earned her our adoration for life.) But we somehow heart Catherine O’Hara even more now that she’s told Variety that Pootie Tang is her guilty pleasure movie of choice.

What’s your favorite Catherine O’Hara moment on film?

Her performance in Orange County was absolutely brilliant!

She was brillz in Beetlejuice. Especially her confused facial expressions during the “Day-O” scene. She completely sells it!

Her recurring role as a high-strung hollywood actress in the 3rd season of Six Feet Under. Priceless.

“Waiting for Guffman”, hands down. I could watch her scream “Midnight at the oasis” all day.

I’m going to go with the first movie in which I saw her: Home Alone, when I was 8 years old. I cracked up (and still do) when she berates the airline ticket agent in Scranton, “I have been from Chicago to Paris to Dallas to…where the hell am I?” Yes, I remember a seemingly insignificant line from Home Alone. It was my favorite movie when I was a kid and could quote the whole thing. My tastes have since grown up, (well, kind of), and I have loved Catherine O’Hara in her many roles since (especially the Christopher Guest movies). I also just recently discovered After Hours, and she’s priceless as the borderline psychotic leader of a Manhattan neighborhood watch. She’s definitely one of the most underrated actresses out there, and the fact that she likes Pootie Tang makes me like her even more!

She was hilarious in The Last Polka
Also, you gotta love all her characters on SCTV

That is hard because I remember loving her on SCTV when I was a kid. I can’t pick just one, but here are 3- Beetlejuice, Best in Show (I loved that her character was so okay with having been kind of a slut), and Waiting for Guffman.

I gotta say Beetlejuice. She has all the best lines in the movie. Here’s two good ones: “Please, they’re dead. It’s a little late to be neurotic.” “I will live with you in this hellhole, but I must express myself. If you don’t let me gut out this house and make it my own, I will go insane, AND I WILL TAKE YOU WITH ME!”

Her finest work was clearly on SCTV, but she was very moving as Kevins mom in the two Home Alone movies that she acted in.

so underrated. this wouldve been her oscar clip if she DID get nominated! ive liked her in every thing ive seen her in… people also dont seem to realize that she is the voice of Sally in the Nightmare Before Christmas…

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! She was absolutely perfect in her role! But I also LOVED her in “For Your Consideration”. But of course she is great in every Chistopher Guest movie.

  • Maggie

Of course the Christopher Guest movies go without saying but I also loved her in “Home Fries,” which is my guilty pleasure.

  • Chris

For me….as Sheila in “Waiting for Guffman”. Her performance in the Chinese restaurant scene is priceless! And she rocks some serious bangs in that role, too.

  • Rose Tyler

Beetlejuice is one of my favorite movies and she is brilliant in it. Of course she’s great in almost everything.

  • Jean

LOVED her as Cookie in Best in Show.
