The Olsen twins, "actress" Mary-Kate and style "icon" Ashley, have "announced" in the "press" that they will "author" a new "book." Influences will reportedly be about the other "celebrity" types who have — thank Uncle Jesse and all the saints for this! — influenced them. And here I was, calling this a slow "news" day
(Might their list of "influences" include the Velvet Underground?)
What we really need to establish, PopWatchers, is: Does anyone care one iota what influences the Olsen twins?

Influences them to what? Not eat? Appear in direct-to-DVD movies? Consume the souls of the innocent? Are they not aware that “what are your influences” is just a question reporters ask when there is nothing actually interesting about you, and not actually an indication that there is a widespread need for this information?

My guess though is that we reading public really want the exposé. What did one of them end up in rehab for, really? DO the twins party like President Bush’s daughters used to? Given how Mary Kate’s on Weeds, did she ever go through a “stoner” phase? Something tells me such a book would be a bestseller.

Yes, it’s a bit harsh, but honestly, what have they really DONE lately? They look awful.
I care because…they really are icons in the world of fashion. Look at most New York or LA styles these days and it’s all stuff the Olsens started wearing first. Anyone who likes Project Runway or has some interest in fashion will be able to appreciate a coffee table book chronicling these girls’ inspirations, even if it’s done standing in an aisle of Barnes and Noble and not at home.

Oooo, the pop bloggers are being wicked today. I say kudos to the twins for taking a different direction with their style. It might not be main stream and maybe some of their looks fall short, but they take chances, and stumbles tend to occur when the risks are higher. Furthermore, I think it is less than classy to be calling out the twins for any struggles with body image. They have not been in the news for DUI’s, drug abuse, or lewd behavior, but for actual mental illnesses that they sought treatment for. And finally, the fact that the two are acting less currently is in my opinion wonderful. The alternative could be the twins pulling a Lohan and playing Stripperella’s in god-awful D-Grade movies. So, cut the girls some slack…Oh, and much more idiotic and unnecessary books have been published by washed up actors, actresses, reality tv stars, celebrity parents, etc.
It’s funny…we’ll have tons of people posting about how little they care about this, but I bet the book will be a damn bestseller. I’ll say it before and I’ll say it again…if we just ignore them, they’ll go away, people!

Are you serious, Sari? Yes, they’ve made a few good fashion choices, but go look on any “What were they thinking?” or “Worst Dressed This Week” list and you will find one of them, wearing something akin to a garbage bag, greasy, messy hair, and copious amounts of eyeliner. They consistently look homeless. I don’t think being weird is being a “fashion icon.” They are really not that inventive.
