Here’s how you know if a piece of fiction will stand the test of time: show it to a three-year-old and have him/her summarize it. If you can recognize it after it comes out of that adorable little mouth, then your story will endure. Our test case: Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope.
Now, as much as I love Star Wars (and I really, really do), I totally wanna see the version in that little girl’s head. "R2-D2 and the Shiny Guy… the Shiny Guy always worries." AWESOME.

I usually hate when people film their precocious children when they’re being ‘cute’, but this was awesome. Ah, the shiny guy.
That was brilliant, and it really is everything you need to know about Star Wars in a minute and a half. To DC, are you kidding me? Star Wars was my favourite movie when I was a kid. My parents taped it for me when I was 2 or 3 and I watched it at least once a week. I turned out okay. I don’t think there’s anything disturbing or too scary for a three-year-old. Episode 2 or 3, on the other hand, might be a problem for little kids. And Episode 1, but only because it sucks…
Obi Kenobi had me crackin’ up..I think she and Pearl should get together and open an apartment complex..Pearl can demand rent and she can give her critiques of the movies available for rent…priceless…

I hope she can explain David Lynch films. I’m not recommending a three-year-old girl to watch them, but she has a pretty good grip on cinematic narrative. =]
DC- kids can see worse than that on the news nowadays. It is something a family can watch together and all enjoy. Maybe I am forgetting, but I don’t remember anything so terrible. I saw ET at 4 and it spooked me more than Star Wars did. She is cute and being raised to appreciate a good movie!
I wish I’d heard her version before I wasted two hours of my life on that movie.
Finally, my 17-month-old has her first pop-culture idol!!!! And by the way, I saw Star Wars in its original theatrical release at 2 1/2 – don’t remember a thing about it, but apparently I liked R2-D2 because he was “my size”.
LOL! My son just turned 2! In a year, I’ll show him STAR WARS and see what kind of description he gives!
I call BS. This was obviously stuff the parent fed to the kid to say and cut together too make it appear as if the kid had actually said it, but there’s no way these are the kid’s original words.

quade – you obviously don’t know any three-year-olds. My kids could talk my ears off at that age (still do!). She sounds pretty typical to me. Of course, if she’s like most kids her age, she wants to watch the same video over and over so that’s why she knows the plot so well – she’s probably watched it dozens of times.

I saw SW at 3 and I enjoyed it – was not scared by it. I think it depends on the individual. Parents can usually figure out what their kids can handle.
That vid does have a little bit of a staged quality to it, so it’s hard to know what came from her cute little head and what was prompted. It was cute, though.

A little more about the video: She wasn’t coached to say anything, nor was she forced to make the video. She rarely stops talking. Those of you with children understand this: sometimes it’s harder to turn the faucet off than to turn the faucet on.
Believe it or not, she has the seem the movie only once, and I spread it out over 3 days so it wouldn’t be too much all at once for her.
The video was edited to make it shorter, more cohesive and hopefully funnier. I did move some of the lines around so it would make more sense.
