Two words that make American Idol fans go "squeeeeeeeeeeee!": Hollywood Week! Yes indeed, after four long weeks of auditions, tonight we’ll finally get to see potential superstars emerge, while lesser contestants crack, caterwaul, and forget their lyrics in front of Simon, Paula, and Randy.
By Thursday morning, we’ll all know season 7’s top 24… and the power will be in our collective hands! (Well, and also in the hands of the producers, who’ll decide which wannabes get misty backstories, good lighting, and adoring closeups.) Fox has already released a shot of the triumphant double-dozen, their faces obscured by Simon Cowell cutouts, which you can see after the jump. (The folks at Remote Access are speculating about who’s behind the masks… but I can’t bring myself to read about Idol spoilers. It takes away all the suspense!) In other Idol news, Fox has announced all of its results shows will be a padded excessive torturous whopping 60 minutes this season. (How exactly should the show fill all that time? Discuss!)
Anyhow, we’ll be covering all this and more on our next episode of Idolatry, so if you’ve got any strong (or strange) opinions about the top 24, and you’d like to be a call-in guest on our show, shoot an email to idolatry@ew.com; be sure to include a phone number where we can reach you from 10:15-11:15 a.m., EDT, on Thursday mornings. In the meantime, enjoy our latest Idolatry installment, where Nicholas Fonseca and I discuss ways to make sure today’s youth get an education in Dolly Parton. Also, there are cute shots of Panda the Pomeranian, who’s tearing up our latest Idol Power poll! Respeck.

Why do you act like you don’t know who the top 24 are? It has been known for a month. Do you know and are not allowed to tell who is in the top 24? I know for sure who is in. If you know the names that picture is easily to see who is in even with the masks. All of the women were shown in the auditons. Only six of the men were shown during the auditons.
As Slezak said, “I can’t bring myself to read about Idol spoilers. It takes away all the suspense!” That’s why he does not know who the top 24 is. And quite frankly, that’s the reason why I don’t know either. Not every single Idol viewer goes around the web searching for advance information. Some just like to watch the show itself to know who the contestants are.
The top 24 is already on the internet it was leaked by the Producers….if you want to know go to TV squad or mjsbigblog.
As for who I think should/should not be the top 24: I like David, I like Asia, Amanda and Syesha. Other than that we have to see — but check out those sites, they have the final 24.
Oh, the Drama!
Why would you WANT to know the top 24 now when it kills the fun of Hollywood week?
Good God Slezak remember the times you used to talk about things other than Idol and ANTM?
Great episode tonight. Definitely worth the hype and made me forget the horrible four weeks of auditions. I was starting to question my Idol fangirl status, but tonight’s episode pulled me in again. Good job Nigel and Ken.
A Dolly Parton Semester? Sign me up!
I have seen the 24 list. I think that Kyle was eliminated because his vocal is a bit broadwayish. David Hernandez is going to be tough to beat.
Here’s how the producers should fill 60 minutes of the results shows. Ryan announces the bottom two vote-getters, then all the other contestants vote one-by-one for whom to eliminate. Imagine it. Idol with alliances! Backstabbing! Gameplay! “Outsing. Outlast. Outrageous.”
