On the heels of their caped appearance earlier this month on the Late Show with David Letterman, Brooklyn-based electro-rock duo MGMT has managed to unsettle us yet again — this time with a newly released psychedelic head-trip video, featuring cats, owls, and dolphins. Oh, my! We here at EW haven’t quite nailed down all the multiplicity and down-the-rabbit-hole innuendos (although one staffer’s dutiful eye did catch an apparent homage to surrealist filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain), but we’re digging MGMT’s hook-heavy, synth-riddled pop, nonetheless. The twentysomethings released their debut album, Oracular Spectacular, about a week ago to much-anticipated buzz, not to mention a plug in the latest issue of EW from Randall Poster, music supervisor for I’m Not There and Darjeeling Limited. (Warning: YouTube has flagged the Jodorowsky clip, linked above, for mature content, namely, images some viewers might find blasphemous, while the "Time to Pretend" video, below, contains one NSFW word.)
If you can come up with a non-drug-induced meaning, let us know.
