Grammylicious: Tina Turner and Beyoncé

Categories: Beyoncé, Grammys, Music

We could use some good news around here. Just a day after the Writers Guild decision not to picket the 2008 Grammy Awards comes word that next month’s CBS telecast will feature a Tina Turner-Beyoncé duet. In a word? Genius.

There’s no question Beyoncé can hold her own with Tina — unlike Cher, who caterwauls her way into this 1970’s variety show duet with Turner and sounds occasionally out of breath trying to keep up:

But what’s Cher got to do with it? The question at this point is: what will Tina & Beyoncé sing? Imagine Miss Tina schooling the hip-pop princesson "Nutbush City Limits" or "River Deep, Mountain High." (As long asB’s "Check on It" is left out of it, I’ll be happy.) PopWatchers, are you as crazy in love with this news as I am? What do think we’ll hear from the two divas Feb. 10?

    Proud Mary would rock…

OH MY GOD! u’re so right! this is very exciting news… and HOW AWESOME would it be if they did a “river deep, mounting high” – a quintessential, vocally challenging, belt-able female melody!!
although, i know beyonce has a small history with “Proud Mary” … she’s performed it a few times in the past… but never with “miss tina” ..
either way, it’s tina AND beyonce on the same stage… it’s huge no matter what they sing…. can NOT WAIT!

Do you remember when Bey duet w/ Prince? The same sparks will fly.

christine, your puns just made my afternoon!

The video didn’t work, but I don’t mind, because I’m not so crazy in love with Cher. Looking forward to the Grammy’s though.

I think they’ll start with “River Deep” (they pretty much have to) and will segue into “Proud Mary” and bring the house down. At least I’m hoping.

Wow. There’s been WAY too little Tina Turner in the past few years. This is outstanding news. Now, if only we could remove Beyonce from the equation….

  • David

Oh puhleez! Wasn’t this site also the one which posted or wrote about Beyonce-fatigue? It seems like every year she HAS to perform! WTF?! We are TIRED of this over-hyped girl who just shouts repetitive and unmelodic songs!

  • JoeC

I’m with David and Matt, just not a Beyonce Knowles fan. How about Tina with Mary J???? They could really do a great job on ‘Nutbush City Limits’. Oh well….As for Miss Knowles, she could always re-release her B-Day CD for the 40th time, lol…..

  • EL FRANCO

The pipes on the two are always great, but what about the LEGS on those two!
    Hot Legs!

Tina and Mary J!!! Now that would be earthshaking and heart stopping. That is my dream pairing! Tina and Beyonce? Not so much. B should reconginze and allow Ms. Tina to do her thing without getting in the way.

  • RBlues

I can’t wait for Tina to vocally “b*tch-slap” Beyonce all over that stage!

  • Ce

Beyonce with Tina Turner, no way. Beyonce is out of her league. Mary J and “Miss Tina”; what memories for the 2008 Grammy’s. So fitting -”Miss Tina” passing the baton to “Miss Mary”. That would be historical.

Beyonce is “it” and like everyone has said, No one has stepped up to her level. She has conquered literally eveything..stop hating you idiots and find a hobby. Look forward for Tina and B’s performance. We all know it will be jaw dropping! You go girls!!

  • malcolm

Beyonce will keep up with tina t.Beyonce just needs to keep the soul and take what tina is going to give her, sing tina out b!

  • Anna Mae

I honestly and in my heart of hearts even knowing that Tina is 41 years older than Beyonce that Beyonce will out perform her. I am excited to see the performance but I’ve never seen Tina on a stage with ANYONE where she hasn’t owned it. She is the Queen of Rock n’ Roll…and even Soul.
And in a choice of one time performances I would rather see Tina and Beyonce than Tina and Mary. I think they’re much more alike than Mary and Tina. Tina and Beyonce have a broader worldwide appeal.

look yall beyonce and tna turnal did alsome and who ever thought mary j would have done better who ever that gil was can you please get off her .team. u little pet

puhleeze – quit hatin on B. she is the most energetic, well rounded entertainer of this generation and does Tina proud! Nothing wrong with MJ, gotta love her, but there’s only one Tina, and Beyonce will have a career likewise!

Last night Miss Tina and Beyonce turned it out!! I saw on her farewell tour years ago and she was amazing. I also saw Beyonce on tour 2 years ago and when I saw her, Tina Turner came to mind. What a treat to see these two platinum selling divas share the stage and show these other girls how it’s done!!! I am so proud of Beyonce. She has a long career ahead of her. Mary has been around, but she can’t touch Beyonce’s or Tina’s fire. Period.

It is a real treat for every woman – even more than that – it is a good stimulus to be always in good form (at least for those women, who really care), Tina Turner is a kind of ideal for me, I always try to find something in common between us and, of course, her songs (http://rardir.com/?q=Tina+Turner) – simply the best!!!!
