Quick survey: Do you care what the presidential hopefuls like to watch on TV? (I keep reading and hearing pop-culture name-dropping here and there, but here’s a comprehensive list of everyone’s picks.) Apparently, Obama loves The Wire (pictured), Kucinich is still obsessed with The Lone Ranger, and McCain identifies with Prison Break "because as a fellow prisoner, I always dreamed and plotted how I would break out of the Hanoi Hilton." Oh, gag me. Don’t even get me started on how completely fake and pandering Hillary’s choices are. (Right, babe, I’m sure you watch Dancing With the Stars. We should totally have viewing parties next season! You can help me write TV Watches with your witty observations! BRING CHIPS.) Why can’t one of them just release an official statement along the lines of "Look, I’m exhausted; I live on a bus and have no idea what the Dharma Initiative is; the last thing I watched start-to-finish was Johnny Carson; would you just look at these undereye circles?!?!" Or would that be totally uncool?

I think they could all use some Nathan Petrelli-type integrity, willing to give it all up to save the city/country/world. Plus, Heroes is just a cool show. Everyone should watch it.
I would like to say that I don’t care what the candidates watch on TV but I think Obama just had me at “The Wire.”
Why are you so quick to not believe them when they say what they watch or not?
The only way Hillary watches DWTS is with a glass of wine and some MST3000-style mockery.
Thank you Annie Barrett! I think I love you!
I’m with the unnamed person. Why is it so hard to believe that they have someone tape one or two shows so they can watch them when they have the time? Or maybe they haven’t watched any TV in the last few months but that doesn’t mean they can’t name shows they used to watch. It isn’t like they named shows that are new.
I totally believe Dennis Kucinich. Of course he likes the Daily Show; he’s been on it at least twice! All of their picks make sense from what we know about them. DWTS is kinda weird but apparently people watch that show so whatever.
Maybe they bring TV DVDs on their bus. I’m gonna go out on a limb here, but I’m pretty sure their buses aren’t just the bare essentials. They’ve got to be rockin’ a TV/DVD set somewhere.
Damnit Mitt Romney! Just when i think I’ve finally decided i don’t like you, you go and pick all of my favorite shows! Now I just don’t know what to think.
Biased much Annie? Actually, Hillary said her mother is a big DWTS fan and watches it regularly. Hillary said she watches when her mother watches.
Why is it so hard to believe that Hillary watches DWTS? It’s pure lighthearted escapism, which someone running for office probably needs now and then.
I think you were harsh on Hillary for no reason; my mother is the same ago and watches those shows. Now Mitt Romney’s choices, they sounded fake. The Office? Yeah right.
Annie, I have to say your sarcastic comment to Hilary Clinton made me laugh out loud. Now, if she shows up at your house with a notebook and a bag of chips, you’ll be eating crow…
Gotta agree that maybe you were a little harsh on this, Annie. I think anyone who lives a busy life (whether in politics or not) probably has some kind of escape mechanism, so why couldn’t it be TV? With episodes now on the web, the candidates don’t necessarily have to be sitting in front of a TV during prime time to watch all the shows they mention.
The scary part is, more people are apt to remember that Hillary watches “Grey’s Anatomy,” but not, say, her stance on education.
Perhaps I’m a cynic, but each candidates TV choices seem to reflect their core voter base. Call me crazy.
Annie, in Hillary’s defense, she acknowledges that she doesn’t get to watch TV much, SINCE SHE’S RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT, but that her Mom–not her–likes to watch DWTS. It seems more of a way to spend time with her 88 year-old mother, than because she loves Bruno so much. Get off her back, Barrett!
