Are you excited about tonight's return of 'Law & Order'?

Linus_lI got sucked into a few hours’ worth of TNT’s epic Law & Order marathon on New Year’s eve/New Year’s day –resistance is futile! — and this directly resulted in four things:

1) I spent a good 15 minutes hopelessly trying to imitate Elisabeth Rohm’s (still maddening, still hilariously wooden) line-readings.

2) I realized that whether or not there’s a direct correlation, the show just hasn’t been the same in its post-Jerry Orbach seasons.

3) I tuned in to last night’s Law & Order: SVU (directed by Helen Shaver!), only to realize the show’s writers continue to churn out far-fetched episodes consisting of disconnected scenes which involve little or no interesting detective/courtroom work. Sigh.

4) I set my DVR to record tonight’s season premiere of Law & Order: Regular (tonight, at 9 pm EDT, on NBC), where craggy-voiced Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) takes over as District Attorney, and two new cast members (Linus Roache, pictured, and Jeremy Sisto) will join S. Epatha Merkerson, Jesse L. Martin, and Alana De La Garza on crime-solving detail.

Given all the dross currently on the network’s rotation, I know I’m not the only one who’ll be tuning in to L&O tonight. Are you stoked about the new season and casting changes? Or is the old warhorse ready to retire to the back pasture? Discuss!

    The shark she has jumped.

I don’t think the wooden acting link goes to its intended video… it goes to the Season 4 credits (no Rohm). Anyway, I too will be tivoing the show tonight.

What’s with that “hilariously wooden” link? It’s the fourth season intro and it’s not a fitting reference.

L & O is grreattt, but I too, prefer the eps with J.O. I miss ya Lenny!

  • Krista

I haven’t really watched since Jerry left us. But Jeremy Sisto is yummy – I’m going to give the new episodes a shot.

I am a little excited. SVU has indeed become nearly unwatchable. There’s no continuity anymore.

i have watched the show religiously ever since i discovered it in the late 90s (thank god for tnt and the reruns so i could catch up!!!). i even bought the L&O computer games (don’t judge me, please, lol) and michael, you’ll be pleased to know that the programmers got her wooden line-readings down to a T. although i agree that jerry orbach was the bestest and therefore sorely missed, i’m still REALLY looking forward to tonight.

Sorry for the wonky Rohm link, guys! It’s fixed now.

Oh hellz yeah. Can’t wait. I’d follow Merkerson to the far ends of Lackawanna.

The only good one is CI. SVU is a freak show. I might try the original to see how the new peeps are working out.

  • Susan

I have never watched an episode of any of the L&O’s. Will tune in tonight, though, just for Jeremy Sisto.

We all know exactly what we’re gonna get when we tune in to watch L&O. It’s not the most exciting material in the world neither for viewers nor actors, but casting Sisto and Roache (exciting actors) was a fantastic move. That, and the (slightly overplayed) promos about a white guy and a black guy in NYC, have me strangely anticipating this.
Oh yeah, and the fact that new, original scripted programming is hard to come by these days thanks to the writer’s strike.

Haven’t watched regularly since J.O. died, but the reruns are unavoidable. I hate this new female ADA they have, she creeps me out. Her face is too tight and angular.
Where have I seen Linus Roache before? He looks like a cross between Michael Douglas and Tim Roth.

  • arryana

ABR, i thought i was the only one that thought roache resembled michael douglas! :-) i think it’s his hair and eyes…

  • Martha

ABR, Linus Roache is a (rather yummy) Brit who’s been in indie movies like “Priest” and “Wings of the Dove.” You need IMDB, or my memory for ridiculously trivial entertainment info. ;-)
