Trailer Blazer: 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army'

The smartest thing about this trailer? That for 60 percent of it, you don’t know that this is a Hellboy movie.

Don’t get me wrong: I really dug the first Hellboy. Smart comics-based entertainment, that was. And, as we all know by now, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) is one hell of a director. It’s just that the key to selling a movie starring a big red dude with a tail and one big fist is to get people hooked on it before they realize said Big Red Dude is in it. Which is just what this spot does. (And it doesn’t hurt that some of those creepy crawlies look like they crawled right out of Pan’s Labyrinth.)

I’m totally on board, how ’bout you?

Ron Pearlman’s in it and Guillermo Del Toro’s directing. It would take a serious screw up of Takoma Narrows Bridge-like proportions to make this movie NOT worth seeing.

I never saw the first Hellboy cuz I thought it looked cheesy or dumb but this trailer not only makes me want to see this movie but also the first one. Also, I loved Pan’s Labyrinth even though it gave me nightmares.

Sooo amazing!!!I said it before and I say it again Pan’s Laberynth and Children of Men were the biggest snubs from the Best Director and Best Picture at the Oscars….Del Toro is the best that’s why I am secretly hoping that he would get to direct the rest of the Harry Potter franchise…Please let it be my christmas present!!!

Ep Sato, what’s with the Tacoma Narrows Bride rant? The second suspension bridge addition has completely gotten rid of the traffic and is totally worth the toll.

Right Next to Mars: I’m speaking of the bridge that collapsed in 1940. It’s known as one of the greatest engineering disasters of all time. The footage has been used in pop culture frequently. The most recent example was an ad for AIWA speakers.
Check out some photos of the collapse by following the link:

I’ve always had a personal obsession with the bridge swaying in the wind footage.

Yeah, I’m there. So what’s the backstory on this dealie? Wait, I’ll Google it.

i saw parts (most) of hellboy on tv. didn’t do anything for me. probably won’t see this one either. it doesn’t look horrible. but it kinda just looks like “another” movie. and that’s certainly not because it is the same visually. but some of those creatures seem like pretty much only teeny tiny little changes to characters in pan’s labyrinth. let’s just put eyes in weird spots on the same character….But with wings!!
i’m not knockin the guy or movie. and the visuals/characters are cool/creepy looking. but…it seems like the same kind of thing almost (despite them being ENTIRELY different movies) but you catch my drift. don’t rip me or ask me why i’m even commenting on this if i don’t like it. because i’m not that adamant about the whole thing. just thought i’d add my two cents.

I don’t really remember the first ‘Hellboy.’ Like-at all.

Oh HECK yeah! The first Hellboy was great, and this one looks like it’ll be even better. Points for the subtle reference to the first movie where Hellboy is protecting the box of kittens (It looks like he’s protecting a baby this time)
I’m definitely going to catch this one in the theater.

  • Kevin Smith

    That’s awesome.

I saw the first Hellboy and dug it very much. I have no doubt that I will go to see this one as well. Ron Perlman rocks.

The dude knows how to make films and there is something I love about the fact that he could probably make any numbers of films after Labyrinth and he went with Hellboy 2 with the Pearlman. What an awesome dude.

Del Toro can do no wrong to me. I am really hoping he does one of the Hobbit movies if Peter Jackson can’t do them. I love Hellboy and I can’t wait for this movie. Anybody who hasn’t tried the comics should do so; they are great.

The fact that most of the new characters look like they came from Pan’s Labrynth is the number 1 reason I want to see this movie! Pan’s Labrynth was my fav movie last year (it’s in my top 5 all time) and Del Torro is a genius. I will see any movie he does. I would LOVE IT if he directs The Hobbit.

I just hope that this one is darker and less child friendly, I think that is why the first one wasn’t as good as it could have been. But I love the characters.
