SPOILER ALERT: Don’t read this if you haven’t seen Monday’s Heroes. Seriously!
Okay, so it’s already been four days since it aired, but I still can’t stop thinking about the improved but still somewhat irksome mid-season finale of Heroes. Though killing off two long-running heroes—Niki and Nathan—was an interesting way to detour from a path of predictability (seriously, don’t make Maya cry, people!), I was actually more shocked by the characters that remained alive and kicking at episode’s end. Namely, the “M”s: Maya, Mohinder, and Monica (pictured, l. to r.), as well as Molly and Micah. Is it a coincidence that these folks not only share the same first letter of their monikers, but also an ability to annoy and offend even the most devoted viewers with their consistent and utter stupidity?
Really, when the show’s writers reconvene after the strike ends, they ought to consider
a "Moldavian Massacre"-style story arc to wipe out the dreaded M crowd–except, of course, for Matt; spare the mind-reader, save the show!–don’t you think? Or am I just a sadistic person for calling for the deaths of precious pre-teen characters?

Don’t forget Mr. Muggles.
Just cram it already.
They ought to change the name of the show to M-People (or Sucky Baby – The Wonder Twin)
Killing is boring and easy. Making them eeeeevil….Now that would be interesting. Good vs. bad is all well and good, but wouldn’t it be interesting if next season all the heroes were dealing with shades of grey? Micah and Moncia start cleaning up New Orleans THEIR way. Maya enlists/kidnaps Molly to find Sylar and kill him. And Matt starts abusing his new power. Enough with the goody-two shoes; that’s what Hiro is for!
Mr. Muggles is the exception to the M = suck rule. Mr. Muggles is awesome.
I agree with all of the other M’s being sucky, though Mohinder is so hotty hot hot that I can tolerate him
Monica is hot.
That is all.
I agree! Kill all the Ms but Matt and Muggles. And kill Nikki but leave Nathan alive!!
Maya isn’t annoying because I get a kick out of her crybaby power. XD
Anyway, I thought Sylar should have been killed because he got overrated. Am I the only one who thinks that? Also, I was disappointed that Adam “died.” I knew that the season didn’t have time to explore his character more (how the hell did he get into Japan?). He seemed more cooler than Sylar anyway with his “Godness”. I hope he comes back next season.
Molly doesn’t bother me at all, Maya is so much better without her brother and it would’ve been great to see her go evil with Sylar. Monica is boring and definitly save Nathan, he’s one of the best on the whole show!
Oh, and I forgot, KILL MOHINDER!!!!!!!
You seem to have broken their code. Now, if you could just convince them to kill all of the M named people off, then you’d have something!
What did Micah ever do to anyone? He’s a cool little kid who can talk to electronic devices. How fun is that?? And Monica has the capacity to be interesting, if they would just give her a chance. If you can say one thing about Mohinder, it’s that he’s consistent: he’s always just been interested in continuing his father’s research…screw whether it’s morally right or wrong or if he might get killed/kill in the process! But for the love of God, Maya has to go. How many times do we have to watch her eyes turn black and kill people? It’s not even consistent! I was hoping that without her brother, the next time she teared up like an over-emotional 12-year-old, the power would rebound and kill *her* ass!
M also seems to be for minority. I don’t really understand the venom for these characters. I understand the New Orleans storyline was a bore and the conclusion was somewhat a downer but maybe they have more in store for Volume 3 (or maybe I am just WAY too optimistic).
Oh, I liked Maya but I thought she and Sylar would hook up to become villians and join others in a pseudo bad guy team. There is still hope.
Mohinder is awesome…and really the only one with genuine interest to help people. He needs to stay. Maya needs to go though. BIG TIME!
Prof, that’s the same thing that I was thinking. M stands for minority. It is interesting how on a variety of message boards that I visit (from soap opera to sports to reality tv to pop culture) people seem to dislike minority characters intensely. They also never want to see the good in the character or actor and keep writing on and on about their dislike. I’m not calling anyone a racist, but they are prejudiced. It’s just the vemonous responses that get me thinking would they hate the character so much if they weren’t a minority? It’s said to say but I think that the responses would be different if the character/ actor was a different color.
I agree that the M characters are a bore except for Matt. But I don’t want the writers to kill off Mya or Monica because I enjoy looking at them every week. They are smoking hot.
So, let me get this straight – you advocate killing off most of the minority characters on the show? Um… seriously?
Except for Maya, the other “M” characters have been interesting characters who add a different dynamic to the show, especially Mohinder who’s one of the rare non-powered heroes. All he wants is to help save the powered heroes, no matter what. He’s important to the story.
Kill Matt too.
Unless they change Maya’s power so that she can focus it on one person at a time, she’s useless. She’s not going to take out an entire room anymore, so, seriously, what’s the point? We should feel horrible and shocked when Sylar offs someone, not cheer (like I did). Uhhh, please let her go already.
“M is for minority.”
Seriously!! This critic calls for the deaths of all major brown and black characters, but the only connection she’s able to make is their names all start with “M”? If you’re going to be a mean critic, at least be a *smart* mean critic and look a little deeper than kindergarten alphabet games.
So you advocate killing off all children, women and people of color while sparing the white man?
But hey, with Mohinder and Molly gone Matt can have the baby drama with his ex-wife back. Because that story was so exciting in the first season. And maybe we’ll get to see more of Claire’s amazing high school adventures? Or we can watch Peter act out another plot that paints him as too stupid to live.
Amen brother! Those children are super-annoying, and Monica/Maya are played by terrible actresses, and have strictly no point in the show. Kill them all I say, although children and minorities get a free-pass on network TV (sadly).
Oh and ‘Matt’ is not a ‘M’. His name is Parkman.
I agree. Those characters are annoying and I can’t help but rolling my eyes at those losers who immediately think that it’s racist to dislike a color character. The only ones who are racists are them because they think that everyone must like a character because they are color characters or otherwise you are racist.
Margaret, you are reaching. “M is for minority.”? Give me a break. What a way to create unnecessary racial tension when that wasn’t even what the writers intended. What you’ve done is twisting someone’s word/article to suit your own purposes.
Don’t worry Ms Ward, I agree that some of those characters are annoying. But I also disagree that Mohinder is annoying. I think it’s all of the new characters that are the problem: so it’s Monica, Maya, and Molly.
No. I think it’s perfectly fair to dislike a character who happens to be a minority. But if ALL of the major black and brown characters on a show happen to suck, that points to a bigger problem in the writing room. Or with audience members who won’t give them the same benefit of the doubt, it’s hard to tell. Because frankly Monica was a hell of a lot more smart and pro-active than Peter Petrelli this season, but you don’t hear people calling for Peter’s death.
Huh? Killing Niki and Nathan would be predictable. These writers always try to create tension by using death. And besides, those two were not dead anyway. They were in perilous situation. As a columnist, surely you know more about the concept of cliffhanger and what it actually means. As a note, Nathan didn’t get shot in the heart and we didn’t see Niki gets blown up when the explosion happened.
“No. I think it’s perfectly fair to dislike a character who happens to be a minority. But if ALL of the major black and brown characters on a show happen to suck, that points to a bigger problem in the writing room.”
The only one who said that all the minorities suck is you and the author of this article. I personally think Mohinder is an interesting character but I can’t stand Monica and Maya.
“Because frankly Monica was a hell of a lot more smart and pro-active than Peter Petrelli this season, but you don’t hear people calling for Peter’s death.”
That’s just motivated by venom more than any truth. All that Monica did was helping Micah getting his comic book back. How’s that more pro-active? Let’s face it, the writers tried hard to include her in the storyline but it didn’t work. Her character has no relevance in the main plotline.
“The only ones who are racists are them because they think that everyone must like a character because they are color characters or otherwise you are racist.”
Nah. It’s just that this post fails to mention the uber-lame West or the other stupid plot arcs the white characters have been involved with this season (Claire, Peter, Sylar) all of which are much more deserving of a massacre (because of the boredom they inflicted) than Micah, Molly, Monica and Mohinder. But hey, when someone values their stupid pun more than doing some actual consideration with that goes on with the show – let alone what it would mean for the show to take out all the dark-skinned characters in one big “massacre” – they’re inviting criticism. If not for racism, then for sheer stupidity.
Hey Margaret, maybe the reason people don’t want Peter dead is because… he actually does something? Monica’s story (just like Maya) was COMPLETELY useless all season, just like Maya. As for ‘minorities’ (the white-skinned humans are the minority on Earth), NBC can always introduce more actors, hopefully more talented than the worthless Micah/Molly/Maya/Monica, to join Mohinder, Hiro, Ando,,,
