Have you ever been talking to someone about a TV show or movie and realized that you completely missed a major plot point even though you saw it? Or, if you’re like me, have you recently laughed hysterically at a person who’s done such a thing? Here’s what happened:
Saturday night, I’m home watching A Walk to Remember on TNT because I genuinely enjoy that "Only Hope" scene, which I’ve embedded below.
(I’ll pause…You ready to continue?)
Anyway, I hadn’t seen Shane West for awhile, because I stopped watching ER when Clooney left, so I needed to YouTube him immediately. I found all these Ray/Neela videos and got instantly caught up in their roomie sexual tension, as naturally I would. Then, I stumbled onto this video that shows him losing his legs in last season’s finale. WHAAAT? (Don’t you love how shocked I was even though I’d invested approximately six minutes into his character? This is what it’s like to be me.) So right at that moment or maybe a minute later when I was watching his PEOPLE hottest bachelors video, my friend Tamara calls. I’m like, "You watch ER. Tell me everything about Shane West’s story line." She goes through his history, he gets hit by the truck, and then suddenly, she’s done. I’m like, "And then he loses his legs." And she’s like, "Huh?" I’m like, "And then he loses his legs." Nothing. She has no memory of this. Apparently she fast-forwarded through the episode and missed him being lifted into a hospital bed. You’ve got to be careful with your DVR, folks.
Your turn.

I’ve often had issues with ER, but the scene where Neela sees Ray the first time after his accident is tied with the scene a few seasons prior when Carter & Lucy (Kellie Martin) were attacked and he found her dead underneath a gurney. After the Neela/Ned scene, I looked at my roommate and said “I think that was the last straw with me”. Its still a decent drama, but its heartwrenching at the same time… sorry, what was the question again?
Sorry, I meant “Neela/Ray” not “Neela/Ned” … he looked a lot like the Ned from ‘Party of Five’ and its 7:19 am.
I did the exact same thing last spring with the deadly cocktail of Only Hope+Reela You Tube vids+crushed legs=delayed Shane West Syndrome. I walked around for a month with survivor’s guilt. It was my fault, what happened to him. I don’t watch ER, I didn’t support Reela, and now he’s got crushed legs. But now I know better. It was TAMARA’s fault, because she watches the show, and she didn’t even notice what happened to Ray! Thanks a lot Tamara. Ray’s in a wheelchair because of you, probably bitter and ignoring physical therapy. See what happens when you crush a man’s dreams?
Whaaaa?!?! I used to watch ER and got caught up with Ray and Neela’s friendship/sexual tension. And then I stopped watching, because I got bored with it. HE LOST HIS LEGS?? Wow, ER, way to push it to the limit.
This year on DH when carlos was talking to the mysterious man about “taking care of Edie” i apparently missed the memo when it turned out to be an accountant and BFF corrected me when i was saying how silly it was that carlos would actually hire a hit man, oops! Thank goodness she was around to set me straight!
Oh that was a great episode last season! Yes he lost his legs and he is no longer on the show. Honestly, ER is pretty damn good so far this season. I have broken up with it in the past, but we are back together. Maura Tierney’s acting has been Emmy worthy IMHO.
I was done with ER after the helicopter vs doctor melee. First, the it chops off the bad doctors arm. Then, six weeks later, the ‘copter falls on top of the same doctor. That did it for me.
How did you know that was my favorite scene from A Walk to Remember??!! LOL Own the movie….love the movie!!!
I missed the part on Private Practice when Pete said his wife died. I know it’s a huge part of the show but I always FF Pete so I just thought maybe his wife left him.
There is usually one critically acclaimed film (usually a Best Picture nominee) per year that I watch in its entirety without understanding a single plot point. Since I want to seem smart, I tell my friends it was great. “Gangs of New York” comes to mind, and that wasn’t even some little arty film.
My mother read the book ‘Cold Mountain’ but missed the fact that Inman dies at the end, then when we saw the movie together she was quite surprised!
Maybe it’s because I’m severely hungover, but that story made me laugh out loud. I saw “Clueless” for the first time on a bus on the way back from a field trip and missing the fact that Cher and Josh weren’t actually brother and sister. Needless to say, I was pretty shocked when they started making out.

i was wondering what the hell happened to him! i thought the season ended with neela being trampled in that mob? jeez, you miss one episode…
Now, see, if ‘Once and Again’ had lasted forever, as it should have, Shane West would have never hade to do ER in the first place…
