Marlo Thomas is 70?!?!

Marlo_lHappy birthday to Marlo Thomas, who shocked me by turning 70 today. (At last, her age has caught up with her voice!) I mean, she does not look 70. Saw her three weeks ago on Ugly Betty, as a cougar-ish advertiser Daniel (Eric Mabius) was trying to woo — literally and figuratively — and she looked incredible. If she’s 70 now, that means she was nearly 30 when she started playing That Girl. (Even then, she looked at least a decade younger than her actual age.) And it means that Gen X-ers like me who grew up with Thomas’ gentle life lessons from Free to Be… You and Me — like the kids in the TV special embedded below (after the jump!) — are now, um, old.

Yeah, I’m old. I remember watching it on TV (loved the talking babies in the hospital nursery). When I was in second grade, my class put on a show with some sketches from Free to Be, You and Me. I played the little girl who wanted to be a doctor.

I remember listening to the album. Thanking you for making feel old. Now I don’t have to wait for the questions from my Parents during dinner tomorrow. (“Yes, I am a grown-up and no, I don’t have to hurry up to have kids”)

Her age has caught up with her voice! LOL that is so true.
She actually looks worst than 70 with that botox

Okay, I feel really bad writing mean things about an old lady, but–you’d look younger if you had as much surgery as she has for the past 30 years. It’s nice that it finally looks good because there have been some times where I’ve gasped because her face looked so painful and/or surprised. There was a point where it looked like her face was crooked. So I’m glad she’s now has the payoff of looking 5-10 years younger at the age of 70. I hope it was worth it. There, like I said, I’m just being mean. But I do hope she has a great birthday.

I think she looks great and can’t believe she’s 70! I was around 13 or 14 when That Girl came on TV and I loved it. She was so cute! She had that scratchy voice back then too. I think it was the first show on TV about a single woman.

You feel old? Hah! I’ll give you old. I was a little kid when she was on “That Girl”. It was the show where America came to love Ms. Thomas. I’m so old, I remember her dad-he was a very famous comedic actor. I’m so old, I’m the parent, asking you across the Thanksgiving table, if I’m ever going to see any grandchildren. So there. Feel free to feel young again. (You won’t after I get those grandkids.) Oh, and Happy B-Day, Marlo!

I loved that album to no end. I used to belt the theme song my stuffed animals and even choreographed it (suprising? – no). Come to think of it – that would be a pretty rockin’ tune at a karoke bar.

and bless you ‘so there’ – I already feel younger lol

    Better living through chemistry.

    I wonder if that’s her real hair or if it’s a wig…

You and I and all of us can look that good at 70 with some pricey plastic surgery.

  • Strepsi

I adore Marlo, and grew up with Free to Be…
She doesn’t look a day over 60. And, as usual, her nose doesn’t look a day over 15…..

All I have to say is visit and you’ll see the real marlo

I still can’t believe she’s in her 70s either. she still looks great. To the people who joked about plastic surgery. For looking at the pictures it doesn’t look like she’s had surgery. She’s a natural beauty. I love you Marlo you’re still the coolest.

    • Bobbie

Being old enough to remember, Marlo Thomas was no natural beauty. She looked a lot like her father, who was not pretty by any means. I loved That Girl!

To each his/her own: one who fools with Mother Nature may be fooled.
