Miss E (finds new Doritos)...So Addictive

Missy_lYesterday, in my corner grocery, I came across a bag of the new Doritos Collisions Zesty Nacho & Chipotle Ranch tortilla chips. “How does that work?” I wondered. “Are both flavors just mixed in there, or are they separated inside by the packaging, like on some of those 7-11 Slurpee cups?” I didn’t buy a bag, but I thought about them all the way home.

You know who else is already obsessed with Doritos Collisions? Missy Elliott. According to a funny press release that went out today, she’s gonna help launch the line! I love this line:

"Doritos fans expect bold moves and Missy Elliott is legendary for her bold approach to making music," said Ann Mukherjee, vice president, marketing, Frito-Lay North America. "Her unique style of mashing up unconventional yet complementary beats is just what Doritos Collisions is about."

I didn’t think of it yesterday, but Doritos Collisions are so totally hip-hop. And doesn’t this commercial already sound delicious?

"Elliott…is the star of the tortilla chip line’s new TV commercial, scheduled to air in September," the press release goes on to read, "The spot opens with Elliott and a sound engineer in a recording studio working on a new mix.  Stuck on the flow of the beat, she munches on new Doritos Collisions chips and, inspired by their intense flavor combination unexpectedly decides to spin in a country beat."

Mmmmh-hmmmm!

    Even better… log-on to snackstrongproductions.com tomorrow and you can make a mashup of Missy’s song and win…something (it hasn’t yet been determined). Plus, there will be info forthcoming in regards to Missy’s new album, scheduled for December. Can’t wait!

    Each bag is half and half: so the bag you saw would have half ranch and have nacho. They’ve done a pretty good job of pairing complementary flavors with each other and making sure the chips are slightly different flavors so you can differentiate them visually.
    “Differentiate them visually.” Wow, who knew I was a potato chip nerd?

    I think there was a collision between a Doritos ad and Popwatch.
    Seriously, how much did Pepsico pay you to act excited about a standard celebrity snack food endorsement? Wes Anderson’s commercials might qualify as pop-cultural news, but a press release about what sounds like pretty average television ad (not even the ad itself!) certainly does not…

    The commercial opens with three bitter queens ranting about Missy as she walks in the club: “That’s Missy Elliott, she lost a lot of weight, I HEARD she eat three doritos a day?”
