What piece of memorabilia from your childhood do you wish you still had? Here’s why I’m asking: Earlier this week, I couldn’t fall asleep and thought I’d stall my racing mind by turning on the "Singers & Standards" all-music TV channel. I must’ve paused on either the "’80s" or "Easy Listening" station on my way up the dial, because I found myself listening to Lionel Richie’s "Hello." Suddenly, a longing came over me… for these puffy stickers that I used to have of him wearing a powder blue sweater and white pants. Now I distinctly remember refusing to use any of them, ever, so I’m not sure how or when I parted with them. But, they’re gone.
Same goes for my Dukes of Hazzard TV dinner tray, which I used more than any child should. Daisy was in the middle — I covered up her face and bosom with my plate — and Luke was on the left and beloved Bo was on the right. How did I let go of that precious (and still, sadly, practical) piece?
Your turn. What collectible would you like to see again? My friend Eva says she’s mourning the loss of her Donny & Marie wireless microphone. At least she still has the commercial for it to enjoy.

My Brooke Shields doll. I still can’t believe I had one! It was so pretty. And it came with a ring that I could wear too. Ah, memories….
my teenage muntant ninja turtles action figure collection. i had them all! and i played with them everyday! and then my mom was having a garage sale, and i sold them ALL for $20! that seemed like so much money back then….
all my Captain America and Spiderman Underoo’s.
All my GI Joe’s, i threw them over the clif into the duckpond in central park in a major Joe takes all beat down.
Sadly I still have just about everything I owned as a kid….
I always have to hear about how my mother-in-law sold all my husband’s Star Wars crap on a garage sale, does that count??
My Pogo collectible figures from Biz laundry detergent.
i had every carebear figurine, including the cloud sweepers and the carebear cousins and then one day, poof, they were gone. i still miss those silly little plastic toys.
and my official debbie gibson bowler hat from the electric youth years. i can’t believe i loaned that to someone.
I caught part of an I love the 80s marathon this weekend and it reminded me about my New Kids on The Block fashion plates. I have no idea where they even went, because my parents still have a lot of toys from when I was a kid (My little Ponies, Moonbeamers, Glow worms, Strawberry Shortcake) but I haven’t seen those Fashion Plates in years. Which is too bad, because I have a little sister who is 9 who would love to use Fashion Plates. And yes, I am admitting that my 9 year old self loved creating fashions for Joey, Danny, Donnie, Jordan and Jonathan. Not that my littest sister would even know who they were.
My Michael Jackson Grammy Doll. I begged my mother for days on end for it. A month of begging finally wore her down and the doll was in my hands. Bored after two days, on a trip the beach, I set Plastic (ironic) Michael Jackson off to sea.
A few years ago, I bought him again on Ebay. But the magic was gone, the clothes were faded, the doll looked nothing like 80s Jackson and some things from your youth are meant to be kept with you in your heart instead of your hands.
When I was young I had a New Kids on The Block sweater that had each one the guys head knitted in a corner. It was black with all neon colors. And yes it was a SWEATER not a sweatshirt. I’m still mourning it, because it was truly amazing.
I’m SOOOO glad I’m not the only chick out that who refused to actually use stickers for their intended purpose.
That being said, I wish I still had my Jem doll, because her light up earrings, though possibly able to bring about epileptic seizures with their insane flashing, were just too cool.
I had this BANGING “Club MTV” longsleeve t-shirt in Middle School. Every day after school I’d be jamming along with the likes of Downtown Julie Brown and her dance crew. Those moves made me go from zero to hero at my 8th grade graduation dance and assured me a seat at the cool table in high school.
A replacement Club Mtv longsleeve t has never been found, but I’d don a new one in a second.
My extra large Monchichhi doll. Matter of fact, wish I had ALL my Monchichhi stuff back and every episode of the short-lived cartoon on dvd
Oh, and what a mistake it was to let my little brother (he’s 16 years younger than me) use my Transformers. They were all kept in near mint shape until my siblings tore through them like cheap toilet paper.
I saw similar toys grab hundreds of $$$ in auctions on Ebay this summer. What did I realize then? Classic toys and toddlers are a poor match…
It seems a trend … but yeah, I once had an Optimus Prime. i don’t know where my parents put it. i think they gave it away. i am emo now. excuse me.
My Star Wars figures…i had EVERYTHING and My Night at Studio 54 Double Album on Vinyl
woah! i had that microphone too! i had forgotten all about it. also the donny and marie dolls, and the charlie’s angels dolls.
I too miss my Jem doll..my friend had Pizzazz and we used to have Jem parties at her house. We even made our own music video, she was Jem, I was Aja, I had an awesome cardboard guitar – good times! Not sure whatever happened to them though(the dolls and the video).
Oooh…pufffy stickers. I had a whole sticker album with puffies and smellies and all the rest. We used to trade them.
But I really miss my Cher doll. She had awesome outfits – much better than Barbie and came with this kewl carrying case that had a platform you could put Cher on and make her twirl.
Als, my Milenium Falcon (sp??) just becasue my favorite nephew wanted one for X-mas last year and I had to shell out big bucks on Ebay for it.
I had Strawberry Shortcake sheets that I would sleep on every night. My mother would have to wash them and then put them back on the bed because I refused to sleep without them — when I wasn’t sleeping in the bed with her.
Also at my daddy’s house, there’s still a Seseme Street plate set, complete with a full cast on the plate encircled by the alphabet and numbers, a Grover bowl and a Cookie Monster mug.
To this day, I still have my Pooh bear stuffed animal with me. His red felt mouth is completely gone and one of his eyes is hangin on for dear life. But, dammit, I’m keeping him.
I had a super cool Barbie Fashion Face. I loved to put on the eyeshadow. I discovered that nail polish remover was a much more efficient make-up remover than soap and water. Only to later discover that nail polish remover can also remove the actual eyes and other facial features. Resulting in a horrifyingly disastrous Barbie makeover. Good talk!
Does anybody else ever get in the mood for a snow cone and wish they still had their Snoopy Snow Cone maker? I swear I made snow cones at least twice a week. And we used Kool-aid to add flavor to ours. They were excellent. Everyone needs a Snoopy Snow Cone maker.
I wish I still had my Fisher Price Little People stuff. I had all the people, the house, the school, etc. My kids would’ve loved to play with them.
Also, when I was older I kept all of my concert ticket stubs – before they were printed by Ticketmaster – but I had them in my wallet and it was stolen.
This is what Ebay is for- if only I had kept all my stuff (and don’t get me wrong- I managed to hide stuff from my parents who tried equally hard to throw out “the clutter”). It has cost me a small fortune to rebuy all my childhood memories- my boyfriend thinks I’m a little crazy. But the one thing I havn’t been able to find is a “Peanuts” racetrack- it had 4 lanes with four small cars (Snoopy, CB, Lucy & Woodstock) with a motorized hill (like a ski-lift)- my sister and I would play with it for hours- neither of us has been able to find one- it would help if we knew what the bloody thing was actually called!!
I had a black satin Mtv concert jacket with the logo on the back that I won from Jem and the Holograms. I wore it until all the luxurious black satin was worn to threads.
I also had a Pee-Wee’s Playhouse yo-yo that I threw away after his arrest. Since his guest spot on 30 Rock I wish I had it back.

Someone below mentioned the Cher doll. I still have mine! but I don’t know what happened to her nifty carrying case/dressing room. I also still have my Donny doll (although he’s naked), but I think I destroyed Marie because I was jealous of her (i thought she and Donny were a couple when I was 5).
I totally still wish I had my Holly Hobbie Easy-Bake Oven. It looked like an old fashioned wood burning stove, and it cooked too!
My Which Witch game. I loved the haunted house set up and how that little metal ball rolled down the chimney. I’ve tried to ebay it but it always goes too high.
Cece, not a day goes by that I don’t wish I still had my Snoopy Snow Cone Maker. Those little wrinkled paper cups, and the miniture shovel you used to get the snow out of the center…and we used Kool Aid too, because who wanted to go buy that nasty syrup when you wanted a snow cone! That, and my wind up Eviel Knievel motorcycle where you would turn the crank as fast as you could until your arm would burn and swell with pain, then let it go and see how fast he could ride! Jumped many a matchbox cars in his day, that Eviel did…
A few things… Hypercolor t-shirts were amazing, my purple Popple, but more than anything else, Jem… in kindergarden when my teacher asked what we wanted to be when we grew up I actually said “Truely Outrageous”
I had the Michael Jackson doll in the red uniform-style jacket and silver glove. (The little boy who lived next door to my family LOVED to come over and undress Michael. I wish I were kidding, but I’m not.)
