Rick Springfield turns 58 today, and PopWatch pauses to honor his ability to pull off a pink suit in the video below — of him singing "Whenever I Call You Friend" with Cheryl Ladd in 1982. Seriously, Cheryl Ladd sings. And honestly, I kinda want him. At least until he starts dancing.
In related news, Springfield will be singing on General Hospital for the first time tomorrow, Aug. 24. He’ll be performing "Who Killed Rock ‘n Roll?" from an upcoming album due out in 2008. (You know you want to hear his answer. And see the perp prosecuted to the full extent of the law.) In a press release, GH executive producer Jill Farren Phelpsthe says, "The town of Port Charles is literally going to rock. Long-time viewers as well as Rick Springfield fans will be entertained, while new viewers will see why General Hospital is appointment television." She might be right. The storyline: Dr. Noah Drake (Springfield) is forced to impersonate hospital patient/rock star Eli Love (Springfield in a dual role) when Love needs an emergency surgery and can’t make a charity concert. Love it already.

Holy gods, that is a bizarre arrangement… and interesting “choreography.”
I must confess that I actually owned a Cheryl Ladd album. Yes, she had an album. Yes, I owned it. In my defense, I was about 10.
Oh my! Rick Springfield was gorgeous. And yes, he pulled off the pink suit. At least he can sing. Miss Ladd is delusional. She would not have made it past Simon Cowell. He must have had a thing for her to do this number with her.
Yeah, he’s still pretty good-looking. that GH plot, though…
Happy Birthday, Rick! it’s my birthday, too! yay.
Jessie’s Girl is still one of the best ’80s songs out there. Happy Bday Rick.
Wasn’t Cheryl Ladd the vocalist behing the cartoon Josie & The Pussy-Cats?
Oh, dear. The early 80′s really sucked in terms of clothing, although yeah, he does pull off the pink suit. who knew I’d ever type that sentence?? I had a huge crush on Rick Springfield way back when. I’m almost afraid of seeing what he looks like now…
I LOVE this! Where has this video been all my life? I need some crackers to spread this on!
Yea what’s up with them signing in completly different directions and part of the stage? I also like how suddenly she is sprawled out on the stage singing. What show is this from? Love it!
I LOVED Rick in the early ’80s, the mid ’80s (Tao was an AWESOME album that even guys liked!), the ’90s, and today. He still looks amazingly hot and I can’t WAIT to catch GH tomorrow. Ooops, gotta go set my DVR STAT!!!! (And BOOOOOOOO to anyone who says the fashions and/or music of the early ’80s sucked…. you obviously have no taste!)
Ooo! ooo! I bet I know what show that video’s from. It’s gotta be American Bandstand. I’d recognize that white spiral staircase anywhere! And Mandi, I’m with ya sista. Rick’s so hotty hot hot until the dancing starts. Yikes! Dude does better when he’s got his guitar strapped on. And BTW, I had the EXACT SAME hairstyle as Cheryl back then. Ahhh, the feathered bangs…
This is from a Cheryl Ladd TV special. Yes, I videotaped this back in the 80′s.
Of course Cheryl Ladd sings. She STARTED her career as a singer. Did many commercials, the aforementioned Josie and The Archies. That’s her you hear on “Sugar sugar”. I wish the 20 year old writers on this magazine would do some research before shooting off their mouths.
I have always liked RIck Springfield’s music; call it a guilty pleasure, but the guy has talent. And he still looks great. Rock on, Noah Drake!Lol…Everybody now: We all need/The Human Touch/I NEEEEEED IT/The Human Touch….
Wow- stacydarc- take a chill pill. You might still have your Cheryl Ladd posters hanging about, but seriously, 9.9 out of 10 people age 20-death would not have known that about the “fill-in” Charlie’s Angel. Signed, a 36 year old.
58?! That’s gotta be a typo. You meant 48, right?
