Help build this week's Must List

Categories: Must List

Courtney Brown liked Doctor Who. Cathy Wilde suggested Mugglenet.com. Erin Tims picked Army Wives. Good selections, all.  For the past few weeks, we’ve been running a new game where you tell us here on PopWatch what’s on your Must List, and then we read through all your suggestions and pick one to put in the magazine. You like it, we like it, so let’s keep it going this week: What current movie/TV show/book/song/album/website/etc. are you jiving to this week? Give us up to three picks, feel free to wax rhapsodic for a line or two on each of them, and please include your e-mail address (we promise not to publish it; we just need it to verify your submission if we choose it for the magazine). Deadline to join Courtney, Cathy, and Erin in the immortal pages of EW is this Wednesday, July 25, at noon EDT.

Seriously, how much longer are they going to do this? I feel like I am reading the same posts every week.

Harry Potter, Harry Potter, Harry Potter. Nothing else this week but Harry all the time. Finished the book? Time to read it over again. Slowly this time.

  • Tanya

You mean aside from Harry Potter, book 7 (cue the tear sliding down cheek).
    1. I’m currently obsessed with USA’s “Burn Notice.” It’s NOT a cop/lawyer/doctor show (who knew those existed?). It’s funny, sexy & smart…and who doesn’t love Bruce Campbell?
    2. So You Think You Can Dance…top 10 time! But how dare they boot Hok right before the cut? Here’s hoping he makes the tour anyway.
    3. Sara Bareilles…from free iTune download to favorite light & fun summer album.

  • Anjeliki

Agree with Tanya – it’s time to read Harry Potter again, slowly. But mostly, this week is about the Simpsons Movie. Homer saves the world! Again! After he screwed it up! Again!

  • Dave

    1. Version, Mark Ronson
    2. dlisted.com
    3. revolutionary road, richard yates (current because they are making a movie with leo dicaprio and kate winslet)

  • Jenny

Sara Bareilles – Little Voice. Awesome album from an up and coming singer/songwriter.

Right there on my must list this week is of course Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. what a fabulous ending to a fabulous series!

As wrong as a lot of them are, I’m really feeling some of the Emmy nominations, especially first timers like Jenna Fischer, Neil Patrick Harris and Kevin Dillon.

I second Doctor Who: Appealing characters, engaging stories, and a regular dose of “OMG-so-pretty” wonderment courtesy of Freema Agyemen and David Tennant. I only became a regular viewer this season and am now obsessed.

    FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS!!!
these guys are so effing funny, their songs are top notch (catchy with beyond hilarious lyrics) and they even do Bowie impressions!

    1. a new season of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations – he’s a snarky professional chef who is not above eating donuts topped with bacon. How can you not love him?
    2. The 7-11 Kwik-e-Marts. This should be a permanent change! Squishees are way better than Slurpees.
    3. Oh Timbaland – Timbaland – best song featuring hand claps

  • Henning

    1) It came out last year, but I’m really digging Cold War Kids’ “Robbers and Cowards”
    2) Mad Men on AMC
    3) And of course… Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Fantastic end to a series that meant so much to so many, even more to those of us who were 11 when it all started.

oh yeah, and FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS
all you HBO havin people, keep the tv on after entourage and you will luff it

    1. The supporting cast of “The Closer”–while Kyra Sedgwick kicks ass and takes names as Brenda Leigh, G.W. Bailey, Raymond Cruz, and the rest of the lieutenants are consistently endearing and compelling as well.
    2. Connie Britton on Friday Night Lights–she may have been snubbed by the Emmys, but for me she’s often the best part of one of the best shows I watch.

  • ktaz

Summer cable TV series – Army Wives, Burn Notice and Damages with Glenn Close looks like the next “can’t miss” from FX.

  • thevisceral

    1. Crabbie’s Hollywood. Best gossip site on the web.
    2. Boxer by The National. This is what Interpol seems to be trying to do – that total New York cool.
    3. The Dennis Miller radio show. Maybe Dennis finally found his perfect medium – though he’s starting to become scary right-wing.

  • Livi Grierson

    1. Hairspray!! A funny, violently musical film
    2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!! The best HP book EVER!!!!
    3. Jenna Fischer’s blog on myspace Pam I am

A few things are ringing my bell this week…
1 – http://www.towleroad.com – a great synopsis of all things gay and/or cool, often both, with tech news, too.
2 – MI-5 on BBC America. Why can’t we make more shows like this on this side of the pond?
3 – Ringback Tones. I’ve got Mark Ronson right now. Money is bleeding from my pockets for this useless idea, but what a great useless idea. Now, I just need to stop looking for the perfect song to represent my entire existance.
ps: you already listed Doctor Who, so I can die happy now. I have loved that show since I was a little kid.

Book – Death By Chick Lit – Lynn Harris A nice twist on the “chick lit” authors and what they do to get a book published.
Movie – Talk to Me Fantastic film featuring Don Cheadle. He is so good in this movie.
TV Show – So You Think You Can Dance A great summer show! Go Sabra!!

  • Todd

Since “Hairspray” just opened (which was excellent, by the way), I thought I would nominate this summer’s other musical film and its absolutely amazing soundtrack. The Irish film “Once” has got to be the sleeper of the summer, which is why I think the film’s soundtrack should be on your Must List. The singer/songwriter sounds of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova are so perfect both within and outside this film. I just can’t stop raving about it.

James Marsden in “Hairspray.” How fun is it to watch that dreamy man sing and dance? And when will he finally land a leading man role?!

  • Ceballos

Cassie…you’re absolutely right on the money with Marsden. He and Kelley were the highlights of that movie.

  • donner

1 – PerezHilton.com – The best site for snarky gossip with silly doodles drawn on the photos…my fave- Suri Cruise with Alien antennae
2 – Joel McHale from TalkSoup…he’s freakin’ hilarious week after week…
3 – Tour de France – grueling mountain climbs, skinny little dudes on bikes…Bob Roll has the best commentary on televsion…

  • Daniel

    – “The Soup” on E! – Joel McHale is my hero.
    – “Kyle XY” Season 2 on ABC Family. – The season started off slow, but these past few weeks have been absolutely geektastic.
    – “Avengers: The Initiative” by Dan Slott (MARVEL Comics). – The best new book out there for those wanting to explore the post-Civil War landscape (Cap is dead! Spidey’s on the lam!).

  • Becca

harry potter and the deathly hallows. i mean, come on, it’s the biggest book EVER not only of the summer, but on top of that it’s fantastic. a great way to end the harry potter saga. and plus, ask like every single kid in the world, and harry potter and the deathly hallows will be on their must list.

  • Aaron

“Walk in My Shoes” by Emily King. Beautiful song by a great new artist with a smooth voice.
The new “work up the nerve” JC Penny commercial One of the cutest short films I’ve ever seen.
Oscarwatch.com It’s never too early, right?
