Diva Collision Alert: Jennifers Hudson and Holliday

Jennifer_lA little bird told us that, during first half hour of tonight’s BET Awards, Dreamgirls past and present Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer Holliday (pictured, left and right) will appear together. Doing what, you ask? Trying to out-Effie each other in a duet of "And I Am Telling You…"? Tossing darts at likenesses of Beyoncé and Diana Ross? Merely co-presenting an award? We don’t know, but sounds like the show will be worth DVR-ing just for that cosmically awkward confrontation.

Ok, what is with that picture of Jen Holiday??? That was the best you had?

  • yeah

Ms. Holliday’s lookin a little crazy in the eyes!

Jennifer Hudson looks beautiful, and I know you could have found a better picture of Miss Holliday. Do the picture injustice to the freed jailbird, Paris skankdom Hilton.

EW, you were wrong for posting that pic of Ms. Holliday. I could have found one for you without crazy eyes on the net. All you have to do is ask me next time.

One more question: Why doesn’t EW do a live-blog of the cable’s highest rated awards show—the BET AWARDS?
I mean, come on, you guys do the MTV video and movie awards, and they aren’t even watched by as many people. Don’t you even do the SAG Awards? This would be a great way to increase the diversity of your readership, EW.
I’m not a big fan of BET, but I have to admit that the quality of the awards this year is excellent (see: the tribute to Gerald Levert featuring Daddy Levert, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, and Yolanda Adams—that’s a real diva explosion). And even though my glowing praise is about to go away as I watch 50 Cent curse inappropriately while passing Ms. Diana Ross, I’ll stand by my original suggestion.

    I second Jen’s suggestion

They opened the show together and it was awesome. Jennifer and Jennifer sang their butts off.

…and by the way, BET got Public Enemy (with the help of Bootsy Collins and Doug E. Fresh) together to honor James Brown for his activism. MTV hasn’t done anything that cool since…since never! Give ‘em a live blog, EW!

Yes Jen, but did BET ever get Dane Cook to make erection jokes after Rihanna paraded around dressed as a prostitute? Didn’t think so!

I think J-Hud was really graceful and kind to thank J-Hol during her Oscar speech.

I mean, I don’t think anyone could really play Effie without having that Jennifer Holliday backbone. It’s such a powerful performance, and I think J-Hol set the standards in a way that there will always be an essence of her and her portrayal of Effie in each and every person who have played/will play this character.

The BET awards is the top rated Award show on cable. Yet it is basically ignored by pop watch blog. Altho I commend EW for making a feature albiet a tiny one of Monique hosting. All of the hotttest artist in america right now were at the award show. Clearly the top 10 of the hot 100 were there. Since hiphop is dominating popular music. Oh well EW may be slow to come around. But they cant ignore us nor the show forever.
The J Hud/J Hol duet was amazing. No other award show even cared to give the original Effie a performing spot on the stage of thier show.
BET will continue to dominate the award show game. Becuz it brings out the best.
The gerald levert and James brown tributes were very well done. Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight? Wow…

    Aren’t Jennifer Hudson’s 15 minutes up yet???

  • GoddessLu

I’m bummed I missed the show–I was busy watching that sinking ship On The Lot (which I kind of like). Will they replay the BET awards like they do some of the others?

  • rachel
