Visit Hogwarts... in Florida... in 2009!

Potter_lThe release date for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (pictured) has been bumped up two days to July 11, Muggles, but there’s even more exciting news: In late 2009, you’ll find “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” at Orlando’s Islands of Adventure.Little is known about the theme park’s plans, but presumably, we’ll be romping through the Hogwarts castle (fingers crossed for shifting stairways!), down Diagon Alley (a ride through the Gringotts vaults?) and into the Forbidden Forest (the return of Fluffy!).

So let’s hear your must-have attractions, PopWatchers. I’m only going if there’s a wax figure of Harry standing under the mistletoe in the Room of Requirement. I wouldn’t actually kiss him. I would just lean in like I was going to and make whoever I’ve dragged there with me take photos. Many photos.

Oh man, I hope they have butterbeer!

Some sort of Quidditch ride or maybe a flying broomstick type thing. Also, how cool would it be to have secret passages from Hogsmeade and the Whomping Willow to Hogwarts?

This story is being widely misreported. Rather than getting a whole theme park, Harry is being added as one of the “worlds” to Universal’s Islands of Adventure. The Orlando Sentinel website has some of the preproduction artwork. There will be a Hogwarts and a Hogsmeade. Some of the rides may be reworkings of rides already in that area of the park.

One has to know that this will be just one section of the Islands of Adventure park in Orlando, not a theme park all by itself. I expect it will have 1 or 2 big E tickets, a couple of C and D ones, maybe some kind of restaraunt and lots and lots of merchandise shops.

Even if it’s just one or two key locations – how fun! I hope they include the Gryffindor commonroom, Hagrid’s hut, Dumbledore’s office and the Ministry of Magic. I’m sure they could get creative and make gift shops out of the Diagon Alley stores and a restaurant in the Great Hall. But you got to have Voldemort in there someplace…I’m thinking a washable Death Eater tatoos for 10 bucks a pop.

I can’t wait. I’ve been wanting to go to Universal and when this comes out my little one will be 6 years old. Should be the perfect age to open her eyes to Harry Potter. I’ll have to go and do everything in that area at least once. I do hope they have a wax museum or those moving figures like in Disney World. An animatronic Hagrid would be cool! How wonderful, and not that far away from opening! Yay!

I hope they have a Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes shop, that would be something to see! Ditto on the butterbeer!

Also, I’d totally get a Death eater tattoo! But I’d also like a lightening bolt scar one on my forehead! (I know, I’m just a little obsessed!)

Im hoping that citizens from all the wizarding schools are represented. French wizards, bulgarian, russian, english, egyptian.
Also lots and lots of creatures roaming around. Phynxes, veelas, giants, animangus’s.
Hopefully there will be a library full of wizarding books.
Madame pomfrey’s clinic. where peeps can get looks at all kind of ailmens.
    A potions lab.
    A botany garden.
    the ministry of magic
    Diagon alley
    nocturn alley
    shrieking shack
owl post where tons of animotronic owls fly around
a simulator brooms tick ride or a quiditch match ride
Oh darn cant they just make Harry Potter World its own theme park located in orlando lol!
BOO for it being a land in Islands of adventure!
    ill still visit

Also to the people who are saying it will just be a one or two main attractions with a ride or two and some shops. Dont speak so soon…
They are touting it as a THEME PARK WITHIN A THEME PARK. I think those words mean its gonna be a bit more then just another LAND.
Think of it like this.. Islands of adventure is in Universal Studios.. So this harry potter world will be in islands of adventure but probably HUGE!
I think they know better then to give the potter funs some measily land with 1 or 2 rides.

I’m hoping they have Honeydukes sweet shop. It would be great to see some of those candies and have a chance to try a few (not the Cockroach Clusters, though).

  • Nathan

Finished by 2009? That would be the real magic.

  • Chris

I just hope that there’s a lot of new stuff and they just don’t take rides like The Dueling Dragons and slap the Harry Potter logo on it.

  • Stef

It sounds like fun – so now I really hope that Harry doesn’t die in the last book. Can you imagine all the little kids at the park who would be like “Mommy where’s Harry?” and Mommy would have say “He’s dead, dear!”

I live in Orlando and this is the talk of the town. What they’re doing is taking part of the area in IOA known as The Lost Continent (which will be much smaller) and a large area behind Suess Landing and The Lost Continent to make up the Harry Potter area. It won’t be a “Theme Park,” but it’s going to be really big.
