'Idol': Jordin or Blake? And why?

Tell me, PopWatchers, ’cause I (Who Have Nothing) need to know: Who will win* American Idol? We’ve got the highly marketable Jordin Sparks, the 17-year-old Arizona resident who told millions of viewers her favorite song was "MMMBop." And there’s Blake Lewis, the 25-year-old Seattle beatboxer who loooooves letting us know when, exactly, the proverbial needle is placed on the proverbial record before he starts singing. (It helps!)

So, tell us: Who will take the title, and why? And who will you vote for?

*Blake’s dad, who has already won, is not an option. Comment away!

Jordin is great, I’ll give you that, but Blake has that extra spark, and while that can teeter over to annoying a few times, its still the most interesting performances of American Idols’ history. Plus, if Maroon 5 had anything to show last night, it’s that you don’t need a great voice to be at the top of the charts. Blake it IS! (but I won’t be crying if Jordin gets it instead. I can deal this time. At least neither is named Taylor Hicks).

WHY. IS. MELINDA. NOT. IN?????? She is obviously beyond the two in talent (maybe not personality though). She deserved to win, but this is actually a very good thing for her, since whoever wins American Idol (with exception to Kelly Clarkson) IS ALWAYS FORGOTTEN.

  • ny1

neither. this is the worst idol season ever.

  • Where Y’at, Dawlin’?

Why should we care? I am only gonna watch the finale to see DAUGHTRY perform HOME………I could care less about who wins AI now that Melinda is gone.

I find it so amusing when people whine that Melinda “deserved to win.” The winner is based on the votes of the American people, and the only person deserving to win is the one with the most votes, plain and simple. Melinda’s supporters can rant and rave all they want, but in the end, she got what she “deserved” based on her lower total of calls and text messages received. My guess for the finale: Blake’s creativity and sizzle will trump Jordin’s slumping energy and screechy vocals.

Hey ‘Dawlin’…..I totally agree. Daughtry is da MAN!!!!

I’m voting for Jordin because IMHO, Blake’s not very talented.
His beatboxing is okay, but it’s not like dude is the next Blackthought from the Roots. Come to think of it, aside from the beatboxing element, Blackthought’s not very good either. Neither were the famous beatboxing Fat Boys. Which leads me to ask, has beatboxing ever sold any records or downloads? No, right? THAT’S what leads me to believe Blake’s not so good.
Agreed Melinda didn’t “Deserve” anything. And I don’t think she expected anything. Of all those to hear the “I’m going home” montage, she was the most put together, and kept herself teardrop free. That’s got to be worth some points. Anyway, I’ll be buying her record and NOT Blake nor Jordin’s. In the end it’s really record sales that decide who’s really won this. The case of Daughtry vs. Taylor Hicks speaks volumes on this subject.

The mainstream treacle manufacturing industry wants Jordin, so let her win — the soulless corporate machine and her deserve each other. Free Blake to do his thing and see if it’ll work in the market or not. Meanwhile, a giant thank you to everyone who voted against Melinda and freed her from the shackles of Idol-dom. May she now join the likes of Daughtry and show that superior talent will prevail when people get to vote with dollars instead of speed dials.

I don’t watch the show but I always read stuff about Blake’s dad being cool? What did he do on the show??
Anyway, I do listen to the youtube “Somewhere Only We Know” Blake version and really like it. I’ve never heard Jordin sing. I’ll decide when I watch the finale, which is all I ever watch.

  • Where Y’at, Dawlin’?

Ep Sato, you are so right. And Melinda has been a class act from the start. She will do well, and I will buy anything she records, just as I bought Daughtry’s cd and am now following his amazing career success and would go to see him in concert if
the tour ever takes him anywhere near the Big Easy.
    Yeah, you right, MOI!

And I also disagree that this is the worst season of Idol ever – that distinction goes to the Top 12 of Season Three. You had the truly pitiful (Leah Labelle, Camile Velasco), the youthful but soulless (John Stevens, Jasmine Trias, Diana Degarmo), the elderly but personality-less (LaToya London), the clown trio (Matthew Rogers, Amy Adams, Jon Peter Lewis), and that caterwauling, sweaty mess who exploited her illegitmate daughter every chance she got (and yes, I mean that nasty nasty Fantasia). Thank God for George Huff and Jennifer Hudson that year, as they were the only two I was able to vote for.

Blake should be the winner. He can sing just as good as many male vocalist that are out today. And he is one heck of an entertainer. Blake has also proven that he can sing just about anything. Jordin can sing only one type of song (ballad) and has no entertainment value. All she can do is stand in one spot and sing her one type of song. She may do okay on a cd, but when she has to perform live, it will be a snooze fest.

  • Linda

No one has ever heard of them again?? Ever hear of Carrie Underwood??? I’d say two out of five becoming superstars isn’t bad odds!!

  • Sally

To Linda and all: Why do you keep forgetting Jennifer Hudson in that mix of “famous” and successful IDOLS? Just because she hasn’t put out a CD, da****, getting an Oscar on your first outing is about as high as you can go.
