NBC is ruining my social life

Fnl_lSo, PopWatchers, I hate to point this out to you, but NBC has made an outrageous decision. No, they have NOT canceled Friday Night Lights, but they have changed its timeslot to Friday nights at 10 p.m. I am bewildered; the folks at NBC don’t see a good thing when they’ve got it. They are setting the show up to fail! To add insult to injury, Deal or No Deal will be airing during not one, but TWO primetime slots during the week! It’s Howie Mandel for goodness’ sake — who wants to watch his sorry cueball!? Okay, that was a little rude. But I’m upset! This fall our social lives may be at risk. I’ve personally got some big decisions to make. Or perhaps I will just break down and throw more money to the hand that feeds and get a DVR.

was that sarcastic, or do you really work for ew and not have a dvr?
and i like howie’s sorry cueball.

THANK GOD they moved it to Friday. How you could have show with that name on any other night is beyond reason.

Tivo, tivo, tivo. Make sure you get a tivo. Other DVRs, as I’m sure you know, suck.
And AT LEAST we’ve got FNL back. That’s something at least.

    Say it with me…D – V – R.
It will change your life forever!
In a good way,of course, by watching only high quality TV such as FNL.
    Go Panthers!

I think the audience for this show skews older and therefore friday night isn’t so bad. And it won’t be expected to perform wonders on friday, it will be allowed to exist on its own terms.

Rant on my fellow Deal or No Deal hating sister! Rant on!

Hey, Samantha, what happened to your objectivity?? Didn’t they teach you that in J-School?

  • Nick

You mean, you don’t have a DVR, considering the TV-traffic jam known as Monday and Thursday nights?

  • Simon

I can’t believe that ABC moved Men In Trees to Friday at 8pm. Like I will stay home on a Friday night. Sigh, thank goodness for DVR.
Can’t wait until EW does its optimal tv schedule for the fall.

i guess we’ll just have to be content with the fact that it’s coming back at all. NBC does it again: they didn’t know what the hell to do with Freaks & Geeks all those years ago, and now FNL. oh well, i’ll be watching until it’s gone…

Yes, I’m bumming too. I remember when ‘Dark Angel’ was brought back for the second season, but it was sent to Fridays, and it died…..I will tape Friday Night Lights for the fall, but I am not counting it coming back for the third year.

It always amazes me how naive people are. You can paint NBC as evil as you want, but they’re the ones who saw the potential for FNL when it was just an idea, nurtured it through development and production and want nothing more than for it to succeed. It’s all about money, and unfortunately FNL aint been delivering (even post Heroes). And before you say, “yeah, but…”remember this is the network that’s giving the show another shot when in strict numeric terms it should be cancelled.

What’s wrong with just being glad that it’s back…you don’t have to stay home and watch to catch the show. (this from someone who doesn’t know how to spell D-V-R, but is more than familiar with V-C-R)

NBC’s decided to keep 30rock and FNL. I feel lucky to have them both for a second season and will take neither show for granted. If we fans want the shows to stay alive, that’s pretty much all we can do.
BTW is anyone else bummed out that Knights of Prosperity AND In Case of Emergency are getting the snub at ABC? It broke my heart to have to toss out my “member of the Order of the Knights if Prosperity” certificate.

If it’s true that the audience of FNL skews older, then I agree it’s a good move. But does it? I have serious doubts. FNL uses faux-documentary-style jiggly camerawork and occasionally mumbly dialog. In my experience, the older folks don’t care for that. They’d watch a show like FNL and say things like “What was that? What did she say?” or “I wish the picture would stop jittering around, it’s giving me a headache!”
I have serious doubts about this move. I like this show, and I think this time slot could kill it (the way Friday at 9 killed “Wonderfalls”).
