Trailer Blazer: Uwe Boll's 'Postal'

Tagged:

There are a number of German directors known for being a bit — how to put this? — eccentric: Werner Herzog, Marcus Nispel, Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Ah, but the self-aggrandizing Uwe Boll takes the ticket. With a predilection for making mind-numbing movies based on videogames (BloodRayne, Alone in the Dark), he has been both hailed as the second coming of Ed Wood and derided as a loudmouth hack. Last year, he even challenged a handful of Boll-busting movie critics to a boxing match. Lesson learned: Nope, he still can’t direct — but the dude packs a mean punch.

And just when you thought Der Burgermeister of Crazystadt couldn’t get sink any lower… well, he just did. As seen in this clip from his upcoming comedy Postal (yup, based on another videogame), Boll attempts to make funny with a window washer, the World Trade Center, and 9/11. Aw, Uwe, how could ya?

Gutsy comedy or hitting below the belt — what do you think?

    Dave Foley?!?

Sorry, but I never thought I’d see Dave Foley co-starring with Vern Troyer in a movie based on a videogame directed by the biggest hack this side of direct-to-video.

Uwe Boll is a wimp. I offered to give him three rounds last year and he totally blew me off. It’s because he knew he would have said hello to my two friends Jack Johnson and Tip O’neil, and I would have beat that sucker like he owes me money. Not only does he make crappy movies, he only picks fights with people smaller and weaker than him. Kind of like his native country.

How did this avoid Direct-to-video? I don’t know which I liked better, the planes flying into a mobile home or the rv hitting a baby carriage.

While it is wrong on so many levels, it is quite funny. I’ll give it a shot… because really, nothing could be a worse “comedy” than Borat.

Wow, this looks awful, and not awful in a funny way, just bad. Why do studios keep giving this man money? I’m a big fan of bad videogame movies (I saw Doom and AVP in the theater!), but House of Dead and Alone in the Dark were almost unwatchable and not fun at all (granted, Bloodrayne was kind of funny). But Uwe is not a good filmmaker. Terrorism and politics are ripe for parody and it can be done well (Team America and South Park do it). But this just looks stupid, and I doubt it will have a bit of intelligent commentary. And I concur with the other posts, why Dave Foley, why?

I like that Nispel refers to himself in the 3rd person. I used to refer to myself in the 2nd person, but I sounded too presumptuous.
