Breaking: Professional dancers have egos

Louis_lBut now who will squeeze the ladies’ armpits while they do the splits???

Louis Van Amstel (pictured) — a somewhat polarizing Dancing With the Stars fixture whom I happen to find awesome — posted on his official website called (yes) Dancing With Louis, that ABC did not ask him to return as a professional partner because he wasn’t tall enough. Boo! But today an Access Hollywood blog reports that Louis the LCXXXXXVIIIIth missed out on the gig because he’s too big of a diva. He apparently clashed with judge/choreographer Carrie Ann Inaba (British accent: "Carrie Ann Inaba!") on the show’s official tour, and made dancers cry and threaten to quit. To which I respond in my head, "So? There shouldn’t even be a tour." Anyway, if it’s gonna be like that — Carrie vs. Louis — I’d much rather have to never see Carrie. What gives? Are you mad that Louis won’t be around? Should he maybe tone down his persona  and become Louis Van Amstel Light?

P.S. Leaving a comment that says "Worthless post, this show sucks, bite it Annie!" is not helpful. But What Would Louis Do? Probably leave that comment.

Annie, ignore the haters – I think they’ve got the grapes of sourness much.
I only watched this show in passing a few times, but after seeing this photo, I’m having some pangs of manufactured nostalgia.
What is that face? It looks fully engineered.
    Amstel light wahahahahahhah.

    I like Louis…I think he’s awesome!
    I love this show!

  • ADAM

    Nice fivehead.

  • Ceballos

GREAT POST again Annie (although I think the actual British prounciation is “Carrie Ann I-nah-ba!”
It wouldn’t surprise me if it turned out that Louis was a huge devo and a tad too demanding. I kinda saw a hint of that in his interactions with Monique Coleman last year. That being said, I WILL miss him. He definitely stood out among the male pros, and I loved the chemistry he had with Lisa Rinna two years back.
(Did I REALLY just break down “Dancing with the Stars”?! I gotta get my cool points back…I’ll be back after “Jeopardy!”)

  • YES YES YES

I’M ON THE FLOOR OVER THE BRITISH ACCENBT THING!!
    YES YES YES!!!

It pains me that I’m actually posting a comment about Dancing with the Stars but this show is like crack. I’ll miss Louie…in a freaky his head was too big, his shirts were way too open kinda way. But my disappointment will be lessened a little with two little words: Heather Mills.

    Louis Rocks
    bite it Annie!

Louis was creepy to me. I think he’s way too intense. I’m not a fan so I’m glad he’s going. to be fair, I think he’s an outstanding dancer.

  • aa

so what if he is a diva, i’ll miss louis. who’s going to choreograph all those awesome dance numbers?

  • Shawn

In my opinion, Louis is the best dancer on the show and will be missed by many people.
Everyone has their differences but I think not having Louis on the show is a bad move by
    DWTS.
Louis did not win all of the championships he has won on luck alone and I think being a perfectionist is just part of the way he is.

I liked Louis. he looked more like a classy European gigolo, rather than the other guys, who looked like cheap macho gigolos.

  • Jay

I just wanna say that Annie Barrett is pretty hilarious. I don’t even watch Dancing With the Stars, but that post (and that picture) made me laught out loud.

  • Laurie

Watch out Louie, you have a stalker named Shawn.

  • Liza

I hated Louie from the very beggining. During his first interview, show 1, season 1, when he introduced himself to the camera, he said that he was recognized everywhere he went, cause he was one of the best in the world, yada yada yada, and then actualy said “It’s good to be worshiped”. Relax buddy, you’re not saving the world here, you cha cha cha for pete’s sake!

  • stacimcc

Louis was a great dancer, but he was a bit too full of himself. He pushed Monique too hard last year and had her doing things that she was not able to do. His routines were awesome, don’t get me wrong, but he needed to save them for his pro competitions, not with a novice partner. I think thats why her scores weren’t that good. sometimes less is more. they should have had a technically less challenging routine and perfected it rather than a highly technical one with several noticeable missteps. instead of letting his partner shine, he wanted to be front and center. that said, he will be missed. I hope they bring Jonathan back (Anna’s husband) to replace Louis.

  • Lori

What will do without the gay Harry Hamlin?!? I lived each week for Louis’ outfits and for the announcer’s voice so elegantly pronouncing his name! Shame on you DWTS!

  • Eric

I have always found Louis to be very creepy, and I always wanted his group to be kicked out, not because of his partner, but because of him. I’m glad the big creepy diva is out.. good riddance!

  • Lene

That’s just wrong. Louis’ mix of intense perfectionism and mysticism are a big part of what I look forward to when watching the show. Sure, he was arrogant, but seriously, he’s got reason. His routines were the best of the show and he was just that notch above the other male professionals – a joy to watch. I’ll miss him.

  • Stephanie

All I can say is that Doogie Houser can definetly dance.

  • Ct Gyrl

thank you Eric! I also found Louis to be creepy…esp. last season when dancing with the girl from high school musical, who was young enough to be his daughter. Ew.
BTW, went to the tour and it was not worth the $$, except to see Cheryl and Drew, who were awesome!!!!

  • Jenn

That really sucks. Louis has been the best male dancer since the show’s been on. He was the main reason I watched! Question: Is Cheryl coming back to win a 3rd year in a row?

  • Jo Anne

FYI, he couldn’t help that his dancing partner last year was young. He challenged her and did an excellent job. I hate that he is not coming back this year. I love watching Dancing with the Stars. He was always so bubbly.

  • Bekka

They need to get new judges that are no so full of themselves. And while they are at it get rid of Samantha Harris. She gets on my nerves.

  • jenjen

ADAM, ROTFLMAO!! I thought “What’s wrong with his head?” You can land a plane on it. Other than that, I don’t watch the show.

  • Phantom

Wow, who cares? Most reality television is deplorable, mindless drivel. This whole show should get gassed.

  • Anonymous

I’m glad he’s gone. He always came across as a major narcissist. And I know it’s wrong to judge people on their looks, but he’s truly a dog. I can’t even stand to look at him. Good riddance!

  • Stephanie

Actually, Amstel’s head looks like a stalk of celery. lol!

  • toonces

i HATE SAMANTHA HARRIS. please get her off the show stat. she and her biceps are so annoying!
Annie, great post. Louis did seem full of himself. We already know who the dancers are returning, that is publicized. I don’t remember if Cheryl is coming back. Anyone know?
    Perhapps Annie does… haha

  • Dee

Bye Louis. The actual size of his head is too big and it’s shape funny. LOL.

  • finally40

My husband always said Louis danced on his tippy toes. I liked him though.
