HeadScratcher No. 75: The Kiss-Off

Categories: HeadScratcher

Pr_lSo, what do Ashford & Simpson, Cameo, Prince & the Revolution, Run-D.M.C., and Sade have in common? They were all involved in a Super Bowl dust-up 20 years ago that presaged Sunday’s football championship showdown. In 1987, all five were nominees for the Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group—Ashford & Simpson for "Real Love," Cameo for "Word Up," Prince & Co. for "Kiss," Run-D.M.C. for the album Raising Hell, and Sade for the album Promise. Also nominated in the category: the Chicago Bears Shufflin’ Crew, for "Super Bowl Shuffle." On Grammy night, "Kiss" won the trophy, so, much like Super Bowl XLI, it was a triumphant night for Prince and rather less so for the Chicago Bears.

Those of you who guessed right will be honored with a virtual end-zone shuffle after the jump.
