Oh, PopWatchers, it’s been an exhausting week — from a pop-cultural standpoint anyway. Golden Globes on Monday, the return of Idol on Tuesday and Wednesday, Betty (¡!) on Thursday — it’s enough to make a blogger invoke a Carrie Underwood song.

What’s that, Jesus? You’re kinda swamped right now? Okay, I totally understand. Yeah, I know I get paid to watch Idol, and your week was so intense that Wednesday’s episode is still backlogged on your DVR. I shouldn’t ever complain about my job — fair enough. What’s that now? You also think I’m a jerk for not including Carrie Underwood’s "Alone" in my gallery of Top 10 Idol Performances Ever? But she was so robotic! WHA? You can’t threaten to smite me for saying that! Y’know what, I’m not getting into this with you right now. There’s a lot of Idol news from previous Idol seasons to cover:
- Chris Daughtry — finally! — has a video for "It’s Not Over" (pictured), and it’s got a surprisingly sweet little narrative about an ex-con struggling to find redemption outside the pen. What’s even more surprising than Daughtry’s return to the eyeliner of Queen Week is the fact that he chose not to play the lead role in his band’s debut clip. How refreshingly low-key, don’t you think?
- Taylor Hicks (finally!) has an official single — "Just to Feel That Way" (playing now at his MySpace page) — and, well, I’ll just say I kept waiting for the hook, but then I got distracted counting the clichés. What happened to Funky Taylor? He’s a lot more fun (and marketable) than Earnest Taylor! Boooo!
- Brace yourself: Season 4’s Mikalah Gordon is blogging!
- Brace yourself harder: Season 5’s Kevin "Chicken Little" Covais is rapping — on fellow contestant Paris Bennett’s non-major-label debut disc!
- And finally, I’m not really sure how this works but the original-flavor Idol, Kelly Clarkson, will be "integrated into all aspects of NASCAR." I hope it’s a painless procedure. Jesus, take the wheel…

OMG!!!! Jesus Take the Blog. My coworkers are wondering what is wrong with me cause I almost choked with laughter.
Considering next to Kelly, Carrie is the best selling Idol Winner for her debut. Nearly 5 million CDs sold. Wish she got more respect. She had several excellent performances in her season, that were alot better than some of the performances you recognize. But anyway, Carrie is doing way better than many gave her credit for being and has won alot more awards than other Idols. So she won in the end!
daughtry’s video is all over vh1 and mtv and the album continues to sell, guess we know who should’ve won. i do feel bad for taylor, he is entertaining and talented but the poor guy WAS the winner which means his first album has tro suck, it’s the rules.
I actually noticed and was impressed that Daughtry didn’t try to play the star in his video as well. I think the overall product is better for it. As for the song itself, it’s not bad, but I’m not exactly a fan.
Hi Michael, I think Daughtry’s video is pretty good. At least on his first CD he does what is true for him musically, eye-liner and all.
Tay Hicks single will be ranted and raved about by the dye-hard Soul Patrollers, but you’re right, bring on that funky music white boy!
Regarding Carrie Underwood, first the vixen topples Bo Bice and now recently, she killed our Romo-mentum (Tony) here in Dallas. Jesus take the wheel with the Cowboys, ’cause Carrie ran us completely off the road. (to the Super Bowl) LOL
Chris will sing the national anthem at the NFC Championship game in Chicago on Sunday. GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!!!! It doesn;t get any better than this!
I think Carrie’s amazing success speaks for itself…and JewelsR she wasn’t actually dating Romo therefore his screw ups on the field were all his own. Why on earth is Kevin Covais rapping? Has the world gone completly mad.:)

After reading the Top Ten Idol performances the first thing that came to mind was “where the heck is Carrie Underwood’s version of Alone?” Hello?! I still youtube that from time to time it’s so good…waaaay better than Summertime. Don’t even get me started. You will note that at the end of Carrie’s version of Alone, Simon made a prediction that not only would she win the show she would also be the highest selling Idol in history…she’s well on her way! Robotic my *ss!
I really like Chris’ video and I admire him for not being the “star” in it. I think that he is doing everything right for himself and I hope to see him for some time to come. Now I’m actually glad that he didn’t win and was able to do it his own way. Poor Taylor.
Slezak you deserve to be crucified for leaving off Carrie’s “Alone” from the all time best Idol performances. You also should have included Katharine’s “Over the Rainbow.” The buying public is now confirming, the best one from AI5 is DAUGHTRY.

DAUGHTRY is #1 on Billboard’s 200 and it’s STILL the #1 Rock Album……..Chris is a huge success and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!
This is the problemn with reporters like Slezak. They put their own opinion and claim it as fact instead of stating actual fact. Ruben can sort of sing, he should never have won, and defintely doesn’t earn a top 10 spot. Clay Aiken’s Bridge Over Trouble Water should be up there. Chris Daughtry’s Hemmorage is rightfully on the list. Fantasia had a few great performances, But No. 1? No way. Where is Diana DeGarmo’s Don’t Cry Out Loud? Clive Davis-A MUSIC INDUSTRY LEGEND-raved about her performance.
And I will include my “Where is Carrie’s Alone” I didn’t orginally watch season 4, when I watched the highlights, I saw the clip and was floored by it. She was amazing and it instantly turned me into a Carrie Underwood fan.
Chris dear, I bought youralbum because I believe you are true rock, but please stop moaning about Idol. Without it you would have still been doing two-bit gigs. You wanted fame, you have to pay the price. Fly your lady in when possible. All who voted for you and wanted to see you succeed should see you act like a true professional, not a spoiled brat.
