What are your pop-cultural new year's resolutions?

Emily_lSo last week, I wrote a new year’s resolution for Britney Spears, and if I’m being honest, it was pretty much an attempt to put off writing my own. (I wish I knew how to quit you, irresistible office vending machine, with your 25 cent handfuls of Peanut M&Ms!) Anyhow, while I continue to grapple with whether to commit to three or four weekly trips to the gym, let me try my hand at something a little less painful — my 2007 pop-cultural new year’s resolutions:

I, Michael Slezak, resolve to stop watching episodes (both new and repeat) of CSI: Miami. Yeah, I removed it from my DVR after Horatio’s Ridonk Rio Adventure, but my enduring love of Emily Procter (and the lure of Adam Rodriguez in a tight shirt) keeps causing relapses — and they’ve simply got to stop. I will also double the number of books I read in 2006, watch my first ever episode of (am I really admitting this?) 24 (don’t mock, I was on Team Alias!), and make time for An Inconvenient Truth and Deliver Us From Evil — two documentaries I really wanted to see, but kept making excuses not to. Oh, and I will also keep waving my Fantasia freak flag, because nobody does it better.

Okay, PopWatchers, your turn. What are you resolving to do when it comes to entertainment time in 2007?

Try to find music on terrestrial radio I like. ’06 was awful. And not to fork over money for a receiver and subscription for Serious or XM. Damn you Clear Channel.

  • Simon

I resolve to give up watching reality tv, reruns of CSI and soap operas. I resolve to read more non-fiction books and to watch informative tv like the Discovery channels.

  • Elizabeth

The Discovery Channel is highly overrated. It has lead my fiance to believe we need to build a bunker for when the astorids will hit the earth.

  • Ceballos

I, John Ceballos, resolve to actually sit down and watch the movies and TV sets I get on DVD instead of buying them and finding excuses (like “I saw it when it aired/in movies”). Here I come, Weeds, Rescue Me, Freaks and Geeks and last season of Oz.

“I will also keep waving my Fantasia freak flag, because nobody does it better.”
And yet Jennifer Hudson beat her out for “Dreamgirls.” And her biopic tanked.
But I’m sure Fantasia is glad to have you on her side.

I hereby resolve to finally sit down and watch those movies that everyone tells me are fantastic and that I just have not watched yet. Such examples include The Godfather, Vertigo, Lawrence of Arabia, etc. I won’t get to all of them this year, but at least a few would make me feel better; and then I can keep calling myself a movie buff without feeling guilty.

I, (insert my name here.) Make a resolution to. 1. Spend less of my work time searching YOU TUBE. 2. Start less arguments with the people on the boards at IMDB. 3. Avoid, and this is going to be hard, the constant all day marathons of Law and Order, SVU and Criminal Intent.4. Stop believe that Lost is ever going to give me any answers, and just enjoy the ride. 5. If, in the event that I catch myself watching C.S.I. I plan to only use it as an educational tool, and take notes on every bit of science they throw my way… it’s about time I used tv for something other than vegging.

I resolve not to get angry when pompous twits leave messages trashing Fantasia in response to Slezak’s stories. Oh wait, too late …

  • Rahul

I resolve to catch up on the entire series of ‘The Wire’ so Uncle Stevie gets off my back.

  • Dana

ah, but did anyone know everytime Slezak praises Fantasia, an angel’s wings are plucked and he is beaten senseless within an inch of his life by the arch angels, then forced to listen to her in perpetuity in a little place called HELL.

  • jay

She got them BABY MAKIN’ HIPS THEM BABY BABY MAKIN HIPS!!! Fantasia is the best! Keep waving the flag Slezak!

  • BJohnson

I, BJohnson, resolve to actually go to movies this year and judge for myself whether or not they’re good. I also resolve to cut back on my DVR tapings so that I can make time to go to movies instead of a weekend wrap up of everything I taped. I’m sorry I cannot resolve to pull away from L&O marathons. I just can’t. I love Christopher Meloni and Chris Noth & Vincent D’Onafrio too much.

  • Ormenipar

I resolve to stop playing http://www.trendio.com and all the other online-games and MMORPGs that I become too much addicted to

  • AJAY

‘Tasia is freakin amazing and Slezak wave your Fantasia Freak Flag proudly, as will I. I hope she has Kelly Clarkson style sucess with her sophomore album.

  • Carrie

I, Carrie Parker, resolve to continue pushing ‘The Office’ as the best comedy on television. I also resolve to stop lazily finding songs that I like on the radio and actually find credible bands/artists. I resolve to watch “The Godfather” all the way through, buy a copy of “Philadelphia Story,” and find a good drama like “24” or “Lost” to balance my GA/DH addictions.
