Trailer Blazer: 'Fantastic Four,' 'I Think I Love My Wife,' and 'Ocean's Thirteen'

Surfer_lTrailers! Get your hot fresh trailers for a trio of much-anticipated ’07 releases here!

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (June 15): Look! A dynamic duo streaking through the air — the slick, practically liquid Silver Surfer (pictured), and the burning hot human torch Johnny Storm. Which leaves me wondering: Is a whole lot of flying really the most engaging way to tease an audience for a big-budget blockbuster sequel? And on a related note, how come so little Jessica Alba?

Ocean’s Thirteen(June 8): Either you’re excited by the idea of a tuxedo-clad George Clooney delivering cheeky one-liners and knowing glances, or you’re not. True, they could just as well have called this third installment Ocean’s Annoying, but then again, resisting the cool of Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, and Carl Reiner at their dapper dandiest is going to be a lot harder come summertime, don’t you think?

I Think I Love My Wife
(March 16): A comedy from writer/director Chris Rock that actually looks funny? Great. A trailer that seems to give away two hours worth of plot twists? Not so much. Still, the presence of Gina Torres, Kerry Washington, and Steve Buscemi hints at this one being more than an extended Rock riff, and one cannot argue with the use of En Vogue’s "My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)" and Gnarls Barkley’s "Gone Daddy Gone" cover.

Was Silver Surfer a bad guy turned good?

  • Lora

The Rise of the Silver Surfer? Really? Did enough people see the first one to warant a sequel?

  • mike

Oceans 11 was good enough to over look 12 and get me anxious to see 13.

  • Tom Brazelton

I have to give props to the FF2 trailer. I saw it in front of A Night at the Museum and I was genuinely excited by it.
Personally, I thought the first film was a horrid, wasted opportunity. But this trailer makes it look like they’ve worked out the kinks from the first film. The Silver Surfer looks EXACTLY like he should and that’s a big win right there.
Now, if they can get Galactus to look right, I’ll be stoked!

FF2 looks awesome. I’ll see 13 as well. I didn’t like 12, at first, but I’ve warmed up to it over time.

  • Chuck

I think the Silver Surfer was a lost soul searching through space, hope they don’t make him a bad guy.

Everything in the FF2 trailer was better than anything that happened in FF1. I’m there.
And I agree with Tom B., Ocean’s 11 was so good that i’m willing to overlook whatever problems i had with the just not as memorable Ocean’s 12. I think that 13 will be a pretty good “pallette cleanser” in the middle of an otherwise Big Time Super Bombastic Comic Book Summer (Spidey 3, FF2, Transformers, Pirates 3…)

“The Rise of the Silver Surfer? Really? Did enough people see the first one to warant a sequel?”
I would say so, it grossed over 300 million dollars worldwide…

The first Fantastic Four was horrible.

If I remember correctly, the Silver Surfer was the harbinger of Galactus, the world-eater. However, he became good to help save the Earth (which I think will be this storyline). If you are a fan of the comic book, I think you will like this one.
And yes, the first one did suck.

Yes, the Silver Surfer was a conflicted bad guy that turned good after meeting the Fantastic 4. He was the herald of Galactus that sought out worlds for Galactus to consume, which led him to Earth.
The first FF movie was forgettable fluff (but still very successful), but this one will have much more of a comic-faithful story. Just to annoy the haters, I hope it does well.

The Silver Surfer looks OK, but the Thing still looks ridiculous. I’ll go see it, but I’m not expecting much.

  • David Cooper

Johnny Storm: “I just bought this tux.”
Me: What tux? That’s called a “suit.”

  • brandonk

Wow…count my hopes officially raised for the FF sequel. I thought the first one was terribly average, but that trailer was H. O. T.!
Also, I love the “Ocean’s” movies, but where’s Julia?

  • Emru

I really did not enjoy the first FF movie, with a couple of exceptions here and there. It just felt like so much wasted potential. But I understand how much of a struggle it can be to get a movie that’s largely an origin story to be really engaging. I’m willing to give the second FF a shot.
Of course, the fact that the flying Silver Surfer poses were aping Jack Kirby drawings is a huge bonus. One hopes they’ll get Galactus right too.
