'Veronica Mars' fans, rejoice!

Categories: TV Ratings

203551__veronica_lSometimes, I feel like a bad news bear, incessantly discussing a steady stream of cancellations of quality programs. So long, Smith! Adieu, Arrested! Someday, we’ll meet in the afterlife, Valerie Cherish! (I need to see that!)

Today, however, is a different kind of day. Sort of an oh-happy-day, if you will. That’s because The CW just dropped us a note letting us know it’s picked up Veronica Mars (pictured) — ordering an additional seven episodes to finish out the show’s third season. Sure, that’s not the standard nine fan-boys and -girls were probably hoping for, but at least TV’s favorite teen sleuth will be working her magic through the spring. And seeing that the series is up 7 percent in the 18-34 demographic, is there any reason she shouldn’t be?

There’s also good news to spread for fans of The CW’s One Tree Hill, Showtime’s Weeds, and Fox’s Standoff and ‘Til Death. (I’m assuming the last-named show has fans? Anyone?) Tree just got an order for eight more episodes, Weeds will see its third season supersized (from 12 to 15 episodes), and Standoff and ‘Til Death are escaping the plague that befell their fellow Fox freshman series with pickups for five and nine more episodes, respectively.

Anyhow, if you’re happy about the aforementioned tidbits (and you know it), then clap your hands in the comments section below.

    **CLAPPING HANDS LIKE A MANIAC**
    Woot! Veronica is safe!!

  • meg

    Yay for Veronica Mars!!

  • Fire

YAY for Veronica Mars! News like this makes me think there might be hope for TV after all. (Of course I’m still bitter over Fox canceling Firefly…)

  • BarryDubya

Loud clapping a big ‘woo!’ for Veronica Mars being picked up (though small ‘boo’ for gyping us on two episodes).

  • Julie

Yipee! Makes the weekend that much better. Veronica is so good!

  • Brian

Glad to know CW is going to try and have a strong network. To cancel VM would be a big blow to my hopes for a network that will lose at least one (Gilmore Girls) next year and we are seeing the end (Smallville) slowly approaching. The only things I watch on the network is VM, Smallville, and Supernatural.
To rob two episodes is funny. I am curious to the reason.

I believe in Veronica Mars! I believe! *clap* *clap*

  • Q-A

Man, i’ve been waiting for this for soooo long. Veronica Mars is THE best show on TV, and i should now, I pretty much watch them all. The only one out there that can recapture the Buffy spirit and endear me the way BtVS used to.
By the way, when will we get Veronica on the EW Cover?

    Clap on,
    Clap off,
    THE CLAPPER
Sorry – i just saw that commerical this morning. I don’t start my Christmas shopping until I see that ad.
But back to the matter at hand – Woo hooo for Veronica!

  • GayJay

well, if hearing about OTH getting more episodes means I also get to learn about V. Mars… I’ll take it! It doesn’t mean I’m too thrilled about OTH. I mean, they could just give us more V. Mars in that hour. Who else is up for two hours of new V. Mars episodes each week?!

  • Ep Sato

Veronica Mars being re upped means that Joss Whedon will be happy. And he’s god to my fanboy azz.
’til death got picked for another season? Really? That’s a little surprising. I like the actors, but the premise and lack of sincere laugh ‘em ups turned me off that show. On the other hand, Standoff has my not so secret tv girlfriend Gina Torres, the spiciest salsera of all the Latinas on tv right now, except for Selma Hayek on Ugly Betty. I be loving me some Selma these days…

  • Rev. O.J. Flow

My love for the show hasn’t wavered, but I have been getting particularly annoyed by Veronica. She was ESPECIALLY judgmental in that last episode. But I still can’t wait for her to take down the rapist!

  • Ann Thrope

    YAY Veronica Mars!

  • kinglouieXVIII

Thank goodness that VM got picked up for an (almost) full season because otherwise…I would have been forced to actually get a life. I live for Tuesday nights so that I can watch the show and then come to EW.com and blog about it. Something that I haven’t done since the days of yore when Buffy ruled the tube.
Although the rapist mystery started somewhat weak, I’m really digging it now. I cannot wait to see how Rob Thomas will conclude this arc, and I even have more expectations for the upcoming mysteries since Mac & Wallace will play more prominent roles.
Oh, and now that the season has been extended maybe Veronica can finally DUMP Logan’s sorry a**–something I have been waiting for a loooooooong time. (EVIL LAUGH IN THE BACKGROUND)

  • Vance

Not to be the party pooper but ONLY SEVEN? If they are going to order almost all of them? Why not the remaining two? Oh well, at least we still get some Veronica loving… whew…

  • Sven

sure I’m happy, but I want 9 more, not just 7! grumble grumble… okay, I can’t complain too much. The smiling may now resume.
Well said Thwarted (re: Tinkerbell analogy)

  • The Dude Abides

THANK GOD!!! I was starting to worry about my little Veronica since this season started out slower than the first two. Plus, we need more Wallace, Mac and WEEVIL!! But, regardless of that, I would have been seriously upset had she been cancelled. So yay CW! Now let’s start thinking about V.Mars Season 4 being ordered, shall we?

  • Lil

I know Mac is off with Lilly in Utah, but I miss her still.

  • Ellipsian

Look, ma, The CW CAN make smart moves! Glad to see they’ve put a li’l faith in our ‘Ronnie, which has potential to be one of the best shows on TV (I know, because it has been, the past two years running).
Note to creator Rob Thomas: I’ve hooked a good friend on this so-far sub-par season, and it’s hard to keep saying, “But just WAIT…it’ll get sooo good next week, I promise!” It hasn’t been ONLY awkward, clunky episodes with unbelievable actions from my favorite characters, but it’s been close. So please, let this vote of confidence from your network give you whatever *oomph* you need to propel “Mars” from this awkward freshman season on The CW to the straight-A heights we all know you can–and have–achieved. I have faith! You should, too–you done good before, now get back to it!

  • Mossi

YAY! I’m so happy for more eps!! (but only 20, boo!) Anyway, this is the only CW show I watch.
When is EW going to do a Veronica Mars Cover??? The whole cast please.

  • mike

The more Veronica Mars, the better. Even mediocre episodes are better than 90% of what else is on. I’m talking to you, One Tree Hill.

  • luis g.

Well i can say i will never forgive the CW for canceling EVERWOOD but im glad some smart they have i love ronnie and so far i have gotten 5 of my friends to watch it and ive done my part donating season 1 and 2 to public libaries tp spark some viewers … i know its weird but i HEART RONNIE and i refuse to say goodbye…

  • Luis

Ooh Yeah ! where her cover ! COME EW if you say you love her PROVE IT !!! AND UGLY BETTY DERERVES A COVER TO! LAST TIME I SAW A LATINA ON YOUR COVER WAIT WAS JLO !!

  • Roger

My wife and I just got into this show this season and we love it. Good work C-Dub

  • Josh

    HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, AMEN
(er, did I take the rejoicing too literally?)

  • barbara

Yea!!! I love Veronica Mars and can’t understand why everyone isn’t watching. One of the best shows on tv. Come on public, get on board for Veronica!!!!

  • Susan

Where are all the smart TV fans? Watch V. Mars! You won’t regret it!

  • Katie V.

“We love it!!! We hate it!!!” C’mon, EW, some consistency would be nice. The “what to watch” section of the latest issue gave Veronica a D. Way to help out the cause!

  • brandonk

Actually, Slezak, I think of you more as a negative nelly…
    ;0)

  • Tyler D

I’m glad to see Veronica get picked up for a few more episodes, though I really wish they would end that lame-o relationship she has right now. Anyway, I think part of the reason Veronica doesn’t get the ratings that would ensure its future is that it’s aired against House, which has a very loyal following. I think there would be some overlap in the audiences of both shows.
