ABBA was nominated once a couple years ago and hasn’t been since. Guess there’s no room for pure pop in the pathetic Hall.
MJ. Exactly. TransEuro Express was released in I believe 1978 by Kraftwerk and Bamabatta picked it up in the early 80′s.
I think that R.E.M. is fantastic, they are an amazing live band (Mike Stype can’t dance) but Euro techno, early punk should be put in. Bauhaus, the Cure, Brian Eno? I agree that Genesis should be as well as Yes, King Crimson, and Traffic. TRRHF has become too commercial. Now it is about marketing and promotion. ABBA would be amazing, but would all of them be on stage together? I once heard that Agnetta threw a herring at Bjorn’s head?
Madonna is not eligible this year, Whitney. Her first single did not come out until 1983; she’ll be eligible in two years. My two choices: Donna Summer and Alice Cooper. THese two have been overlooked for waaaaaayyyy too long…..
Whoa, how are Elvis Costello, The Doobie Brothers, The Kinks, and Genesis NOT in yet? Same with Metallica not getting nominated on their first try. And don’t even get me started on the snub of Madonna…
Elvis Costello & the Attractions were inducted in 2003, on the first try.
Joe, just curious. What year did Madonna’s first hit “Everybody” come out? I could have sworn it was 1981? If it was, then she is eligible.
No Deep Purple,T-Rex, Motorhead, Priest, Iron Maiden,Rainbow, Mountain, or even Michael Shenker with UFO. I am telling you that something is fishy.
In regards to Agnetha and Bjorn, all four members were in the same room, if not together, at the Swedish premiere of Mamma Mia. If they ever do get into the Hall, it will probably not be another reunion, since aside from all the other crap she’s had to deal with (like a stalker), Agnetha’s had a fear of flying for years.
By the way, her 2004 “My Coloring Book” CD, never released here, is first rate. Kinda like what Bette Midler did with Rosemary and Peggy, but with 60′s songs that are close to her heart.
Madonna is not eligible until next year. “Everybody,” her first single, was released and charted in 1982.

Also, Metallica is not eligible for two more years. Their first release was in 1983.

Dave Clark 5 should be an automatic. I saw them in
concert and they were great! All the great songs, some
rockers like Glad All Over, Bits and Pieces, Anyway You
Want It, along with some great ballads like Because, Come Home and unique stuff like Can’t You See Thats She’s Mine and Try Too Hard. Not to mention that their
covers were actually better than the originals. Heck,
they should get in just on the merit of Because! Mike
Smith was unbelievable in concert as their front man but
I thought the others complimented him very well. Dave
Clarks drumming was not real technical but was actually
perfect for their style. Most of the rock and roll drummers of that time were not great technical drummers
but they had great effect depending on the groups style.
I grew up in that era and let me tell you the DC 5 had a great impact on rock and roll during that time.
Why are so many recent musical artists being put in when pioneers of modern music are ignored? The Ventures, Chicago, many others from the 50′s-60′s-etc?
