Is anyone excited for 'O.C.'-son 4?

Categories: Television

17849__oc_perfume_lCheck out the first few minutes of The O.C.’s Season 4 (it premieres Thursday, Nov. 2). I particularly dig the threatening first few seconds. "The O.C. is back… with a vengeance." Marissa wasn’t enough — the show wants to kill you, too! (Sometimes I dream that the deep, growly voice of Fox’s promos is chasing me. "Next morning… you will sleep through your alarm. And someone will die.")

Or maybe I should call the show Hangin’ with Mrs. Cooper? What the hizzell is Ryan doing entering sexy-dress Julie’s motel room on a Saturday night? At the Mermaid Inn, no less — site of many an O.C. tryst (Luke/Julie, Ryan/Theresa, the guy who was hoarding Julie’s porn tape/Julie). The motel does appear to be a major step up for Ryan, who now lives in a dungeon and doesn’t bother to lock his door.

Okay, so not everyone around me is as excited as I am about the new season. But they do have to deal with the thick cloud of ”The O.C. For Her” scent we just received as a promotional item from Fox. "Smells like the general decay of Mischa Barton!" promises the box. (Not really. It smells like something you’d find at the Gap — or more specifically, a hybrid of raspberries and Summer’s "hobbit feet.")

Will you still watch The O.C. even though you won’t get to stare at Marissa’s outfits? And would you want to smell like The O.C.?

I’ll watch the O.C. no matter how bad it is. (And there’s a perfume? Ewwww.)

I love the CD’s, don’t care for the show, and NOW there is perfume? Please. This will be gone just like Debbie Gibbson’s Electric Youth perfume!

I’ve been with the O.C. ever since Ryan stood at the end of that driveway with Marrisa and said “Whoever you want me to be.” So there I will stay. Plus I’m eager to see how they’re going to revamp the show now that Marrisa is dead. Hopefully it will involve Taylor Townsend, tube socks, hot wax, and the new Fiona Apple cd.

Michael Ausiello over at TVGuide says the first four episodes Fox sent out in that promo package are grade-A awesome. I was always planning on sticking with The O.C. but that’s just an extra vote of confidence. And to whoever will eventually start the “Grey’s Anatomy is what I watch now” chatter — I like it too but that’s why I have a DVR. Seriously, it’s 2006. Get one.

The OC was the show I decided to break up with this year. But I also decided to break up with my boyfriend this year too. He promised to change his ways and asked me to give our relationship a second chance. Well I heard good changes are coming on the OC this season, so I guess I can give it another chance as well. Then again, the show didn’t drive an hour away from home to tell me it was still in love with me. I’ll give the OC a few dates and see how it goes.

I never watched that show, but now I can’t look at Rachel Bilson without thinking about how she led Zach Braff into temptation with his pregnant girlfriend at home.

I have been a loyal fan of the OC since it’s very beginning as well. I loved the first season. But this last season really didn’t do it for me, so I have serious doubts about this upcoming one. Never have I liked a show as much when a major character was missing, even though I was so tired of Mariassa’s shtick, and her and Ryan’s on again off again relationship. And because I don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy or have a DVR (I’m working on it) I will give this season a go. Excited? Not so much. Curious? Enough

Like David, I saw Michael Ausiello’s strong recommendation of the show being good again over at tvguide.com — only I had been planning to not tune in. I will definitely be watching “Grey’s Anatomy.” I had been planning to probably tape “CSI” and/or “Supernatural” but now one of those may go… or maybe not. Still undecided, and I need to cut back on TV anyway.

    Nope. And no. Just…no.

I heard the new season is great! The promo looks amazing as well. I think the show might be back. Which is good because Grey’s is totally annoying and I hate all the characters. I hope they bring back the funny as well.

    FROM TV GUIDE:
Question: Please tell me you were just joking around when you said Ryan and Taylor are gonna pair up on The O.C.! That would be gruesome.— Ricarda
Ausiello: I think you’ll be changing your tune when you see the two of them together. They’re thisclose to edging out J.D. and Turk as my favorite tube couple. Their little flirtation begins in the fourth episode, which, I have to say, is one of my favorite O.C. hours ever. I especially loved the opening sequence, which chronicles Summer as she powers through the five stages of grief. It’s unlike anything the show has attempted before, and I don’t think I’m overselling it when I say it’s a triumph of writing, directing and music. It’s ingenious. After watching the first four episodes over the weekend, I really think you guys are gonna fall back in love with The O.C. this season. The writing seems tighter, crisper, funnier. And the best news of all: tons more screen time for the underrated Melinda Clarke. If I thought it’d do any good, I’d start an Emmy campaign for her. But let’s be real: It’d do absolutely no good.

I’m actually super excited for the O.C. to start again. I’m picking up my season three DVD’s on Tuesday having myself a marathon, rewinding Marissa’s death scene and then counting down to the season premiere. In all seriousness, I hear that the O.C. is returning to form. So, I can’t wait. I hated Mischa Barton, and the show can only go up. SO yay O.C.

  • stacie

I’ve been reading the comments from people who’ve seen the first four episodes. Ausiello, Kristin of Eonline, there’s a guy who runs an OC podcast, and just regular watchers. Quite a lot of people have seen the episodes.
And they’ve all been positive. I honestly have yet to read a negative one.

  • RayT

I can’t wait for the new season of The O.C., and Annie Barrett’s rogue O.C. TV Watches on her website http://www.diminishingreturns.net! (If EW.com won’t let you self-promote, I’ll do it for you!) I don’t know if I’m going to like boxer-Ryan, but at least his SoCal-Mullet is gone!

  • J. Free

Damn it Annie! I had come to terms with the impending doom and crappiness. I had spent my summer months slowly letting the show go, bit by bit. Then you come in with this awesome preview and super-glued the broken pieces of my OC-loving heart back together. It better not suck. I will hold you responsible if I get my heart broken again.
PS – If you have the perfume, you have episodes 1-4. Give us a hint! Not spoilers at all, just a little wink if it is good. Post it over at DR (lest you forget your loyal DR readers who have been abandoned for PopWatch…)

  • Jakeem

I am totally enthralled by Autumn Reeser, especially after having seen her recent MAXIM magazine pictorial. I just never knew that she looked that good!
Maybe she’ll have an opportunity to shine during Season 4 if they’ll play up Taylor’s sex appeal and tone down her wackiness!

  • beachmom

O M G!!!!!!!!! fatal error…i got elton john tix for me and my 16 year old daughter that same night… i forgot to consult my whiteboard of tv shows before i went on stubhub!!!! it looks so amazing..ryan never looked better…we will have to watch the show after the concert no matter how late we get home…

  • Brandie

I’ve been watching The O.C. since the very first episode, but I was so bored/disappointed/enraged by last season’s silliness, that I was questioning whether to give it a go this season. Now, with all the positive hype and Marissa out of the picture, I’m actually excited to tune in to season 4. Thanks, Annie, for making me an O.C.-believer once again!

  • Christina

Smell like The O.C.? Eh, I’m going to say no (unless it smells as good as Armani’s Mania or Escoda’s Sentiments. Perfumes aside, I’m totally psyched about the new season…I love the show — and the thought of the shows sans Marissa has had me giddy for nearly 6 months. Tinkle-Tinkle Tink…
