Last night’s Project Runway reunion episode was a must-
watch, and not just because Heidi Klum read from EW.com’s interview with Vincent, in which he dissed Tim Gunn. There was also the matter of Keith, who suggested he’d been tossed unfairly because there was nothing in the rules forbidding him to have books of patterns. To which his fellow designers reacted with the dumbfounded shock that would greet, say, the sight of Kate Moss wolfing down a cheeseburger.
Now, PopWatch has exclusively obtained a copy of the relevant letter sent by PR to the contestants specifying what they may not bring to the competition. We’ve reproduced the letter, above, and zoomed in on the pertinent paragraph. As you can see, Keith is correct that it doesn’t mention the word ”books,” but it does say ”patterns” and ”portfolios,” so it’s still hard to imagine how a book of patterns wouldn’t violate that rule.
Setting aside Keith’s other alleged violation (going briefly AWOL), do you think he has a case here? Did he exploit a legitimate loophole, or did he deserve the boot?

To think that I actually had a pang of sadness when Keith left! I had thought that he handled the dismissal with a degree of grace that would enable him to actually come out of this successfully. Now he has just reconfirmed the initial impression of him being an arrogant whiner.
Does a pattern book give you patterns or ideas for how to form them? The first girl to leave the show pointed out the concern that seeing a pattern in a book could give you ideas you might not have thought of otherwise
PR is a “closed book” exam so to speak. No notes, no text books, no outside contact. This seems the only way to level the playing field between contestants.
he’s a phony and a liar.
if he were ’set up’, why did he not make a big deal about it when confronted and dismissed by tim, which tim then suggested in the reunion special?
good ridance.
He’s a jerk!!! He makes Jeffrey look like Mr. Rogers!!!!
If I hadn’t seen how he behaved during the dog challenge–claiming that the bracelet he secured around the dog’s neck was something he “made”–then I would have given him the benefit of the doubt. Even if he never used the books, he seems like someone who doesn’t take responsibility for his actions and tries to lie or BS his way out of situations.
For most of the season, I felt sorry for Keith and I thought, maybe he should have been reprimanded, but his ego got the better of him last night and he sounded completely “republican” in his need to make a point through lying and deception.
He broke the rules, he sneaked out. Even if a PA had shown him the door; He had to know better. I’m glad he was kicked out now. what a loser.
Miles – don’t lump that loser in with us Republicans… It’s a shame because I liked his work. He was just a tool.
He’s just mad because he got caught. Plain and simple. If anyone ruined or put a damper on his career, it was himself. Sorry Keith – I think that you are talented and all, but come on!
I also think that he was 2 seconds away from Heidi Klum cussing him out in German. She had the most evil look on her face when he was talking!
I saw contestants using cell phones — were those then provided by the show? It makes it sound like family can only reach them for emergencies, and yet Michael called his mother early on and later Laura received a video message from her kids. What’s the scoop with that?
Hey Josh, if you noticed, those phonecalls arrived to the same phone, and took place in the same production room (right outside of the parsons design room). Many reality TV shows make phone calls available, through a phone that is in control of the production. and it recorded. All of them get phone calls, but only the most dramatic or justifiable make it to the final edit.
he deserved the boot.
Hey Lisa, Hastert, foley, bush, keith… all come from the same tree… liars… three of them are republican, two of them are gay. As Vincent would say, I stand by my comment.
Speaking of Republican Liars:
Why doesn’t Mark Foley use bookmarks?
Because he likes to BEND over the PAGES!!!!!
Keith is a jerk and a liar. I am so glad he was kicked off. I wish Heidi had cussed him out. He never took responsibility for his actions. Never did he apologize for leaving. He just made excuses. I can’t stand him.
I think Keith is a cheater and a liar and he got caught and he didn’t like it. That’s all there is to it. The fact that he didn’t put up a fight when he spoke to Tim is a perfect example of that. The game was up. I thought he sounded kind of whiny like a little kid. He was hostile and defensive and really rude to Heidi. Fortunately, Tim stepped in to cut off the discussion. Kieth’s not worth it. There are more deserving people who got booted off. No, I don’t mean Vincent, that segment they showed for the first time with him using every curse word in the English language at the production assistant who put his precious shirts in the laundry for goodness sakes, well it was worth it to tune in just to see that. Poor Vincent, it’s so hard when people can’t see that you are a legend in your own mind.
Um…the letter also states that it will be “confiscated” by the production team…Keith mentioned that they took it at the beginning of the competition and then brought them back. If they did not confiscate them in the beginning they slacked on their job. Either way Keith is right the production team are the f* ups…after all they did show him the door and didn’t stop him from leaving. Hell the show seems more stupid to me now anyway.
Heidi is a liar because Seal isn’t her husband or the father of any of her 3 children. How she was so offended that he implied the production team lied. What about you skank???
I only wrote that cause I know she reads this message board…although it’s the truth about her phony belony marriage.
Mabey they did find the books and take them and then put them back so they could have controversy on the show. I did not like him and i did not think his dress was all that (the one that won)but,
I would like to find out if he is telling the truth.
As much as Keith enjoyed rewriting history on the Reunion episode, he signed the same documents every other contestant did, so he was made aware of the rules even if he chose not to read (or comprehend) them fully. His dog design lie, coupled with his violating the rules and his pointing fingers behavior now, show clearly that he wasn’t willing to play on an ethical and level field with the other contestants. Now I just wish he’d been the FIRST eliminated contestant. How I wish Heidi would have cussed him out in German, German is a terrific language for cussing. And Vincent’s verbal abuse of a production team member, since it was caught on tape, should have gotten you removed from the show *immediately* (shame on Bravo for not holding these folks to the highest ethical standard). Love Michael, his designs and spirit will (I hope) prevail in the end.
I was surprised but glad that they brought him back – you’re only as sick as your secrets, and it was important to let him have his say.
But he sat through the rest of the special sort of glowering and being scary. Talk about the elephant in the room!
Wasn’t Malan delightful – and have you seen pics of his show at fashion week? He is an amazing designer – just head and shoulders above the others.
Miles, so now all gays are liars? Your comment is insulting, confusing, and untrue. Feel what you want about politicians, but don’t be a prejudiced bigot.
um, wtf! Nobody in the world is gayer than I am. I said, that keith was sounding “republican” when he spinned his lies last night. that was the comment I was standing by.
the producers on PR have the most wonderful talent of creating drama even if it doesn’t exist. The above letter does not mention books he was right about that.
Did they remove the books and them plant them we’ll probably never know, but fairness has never been this shows virtue, Michael Kors said last night I don’t judge a body of work I just on the current challenge. WRONG he stated over and over when they booted Robert that he had been bored over and over and he voted on
score alone and said so. Jeez guys watch the shows.
Was Keith cheated probably, we’ll never know. But this season proved drama is the name of this show.
Not that I would change my opinion of the man. I don’t like him and didn’t from the start. But had he taken any responsibility I think he wouldn’t have received all the ill feelings from fans of he show. I mean he was arrogant from day one. But when he was talking to all the boys before he left he said something to the effect of “I understand that you are upset”. Not yeah I’m sorry about this. Even if he thought that the books where ok (which I doubt) simply acknowledging that it was a mistake would have helped. He’s not even taking responsibility for having the books. Most people would acknowledge after the fact that maybe having the books in the first place was wrong. But to bring up months later that you feel there was a conspiracy to kick you off is just insane. Why not defend your self in the moment?? But whatever. And is it just me or did he look like a man come undone?
I personally found it interesting that Kieth first said that there was nothing in the contract about not being able to have such items and when he was called on it, it was “Oh, well Production took them from me and then brought them back.” Bull****. And furthermore, if any of that was true, why wait until the reunion show to say that your dismissal was unjustified? Why not present your case when it actually mattered, during the show!
I was hoping that Tim and Heidi had security handy because Keith’s head looked like it was going to explode he was so angry. The guy was such a con artist, from his refusal to follow the rules on the dog challenge to having the people at Mood change the price on his goods, it wasn’t hard to believe he had the forbidden books in his possession.
Hey Miles: Republicans aren’t the only ones who lie. Just ask chief Democrat Bill “I didn’t have sex with that woman” Clinton.
Hey MarinaZ, I was just making fun because of the weeks event. I warrant, ALL POLITICIANS LIE, but the republicans are doing a exemplary job of it this week.
PS: Democrat at least hit on adults.
Maybe Keith will become Project Runway’s version of Puck and he’ll be invited back to a best of the also-rans season to cause further agony with his rule-bending ego.
Keith got Mood to change the price? How did I miss that?!?!?
He’s a little insane. He should catch up with Monique from Top Model…
I never thought I’d say this, but Keith makes Jeffrey (tattoo neck) look like a saint. Not only did he break the rules, he’s a bad liar. He needs to take his lumps like a man. He got what he deserved, plain and simple. Sad because he did show promise as a designer.
If Vincent was a nutjob before, he really needed a straightjacket last night. Who goes ballistic over laundry?
Angela, a.k.a. Rosette Queen, is still annoying (like mother, like daughter).
Malan wasn’t as creepy as I previously thought, but he still looks and sounds like the spawn of Greta Garbo and Crispin Glover. I did see some pics of his clothes from Fashion Week and they were really nice. I still say that he was auf’d too soon.
Bradley is still a nutjob. Not as bad as Vincent, but what’s with the alien noises he kept making?
I still hope that Michael wins. He definitely deserves it.
P.S. Republicans AND Democrats are just plain screwed up. End of story.
Lisa, if you watch the re-runs (of which there are many)Keith got the woman at Mood to lower the price of the items he bought for the INC challenge because he had overspent. Jeffrey and Allison were part of his team. Keith was just plain smarmy.
