Mario Lopez is a LIAR!

153246__mario_lYes, yes, we’re late ringing in on this, but we never miss an opportunity to point at someone and give them the full-on Princess Bride treatment: Mario Lopez? You are a LIAR!  LIAAAR!  LIAR!

What is up with this nonsense about you never having danced before? We all know your secret, and your secret is the "Dancing to the Max" episode of Saved by the Bell, on which you flashed some serious shoe leather and totally would have won the competition had Lisa not gotten the cripple-pity vote. We all saw it. And Lopez, it is time for you to come clean. Because we smell smoke, and it is coming from your pants.

I thought Mario was awesome and poised to take the big prize. I also hope after this his career zooms upward. Behind Mario: Joey Lawrence, Viveca Fox. springer and Hamlin MUST GO! They add nothing to the contest.

  • Reesie

Mario Lopez used to dance on Kids Incorporared! His name appears on the credits.

  • Margaret

Mario is definitlty lying he danced on SAVE BY THE BELL! Remember Mario when you lie cover your TRACKS…People who BS get NOWHERE…Liar!!!!

  • Crystal

Thought I was the only one that remembered he used to be on Kids, Incorporated as a dancer…..damn I’m OLD. Which (and I missed his dance, I was watching House and flipping over to ABC on commercials, and then, ya know, shower), made me very unsurprised when I heard he did well.

  • meb3q

HAAAAAAA! I was thinking the same thing! I think he even did ballet once to impress Jessie and win her back. So sad to know that pop culture fact. LOL.

  • Molly

Marion Lopex used to be a background dancer/drummer on a Disney show called “KIDS Inc.” The same showed spawned Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson of the Black-Eyed Peas.
Oh, and we’re not talking cool “pop and lock” street dancing. Mario’s pirouettes were so of the loveliest I’ve ever seen! (snark.)

  • Jen

The real problem here is that people are missing the true blessing and entertainment of all this … Mario is eye candy taken to a whole new level–a really nicely built man who can work his hips, (and I’ll just call the rest) “etc.” in a way that can make your knees weak while sitting down. And I haven’t even mentioned the dimples!! I can honestly tell you that whether or not he danced before never even entered my mind as I sat and watched and re-watched and re-watched and …

  • newbie

I swear I heard him say in a recent interview that he has been dancing all of his life. Those hips obviously have swiveled before, and I don’t think it is fair. They need to do a better job of getting a level playing field so that improvement can be a factor.

  • Valari

“Joey” Lawrence is claiming the same thing…”I’ve never taken dance lessons”…then why did I see you doing a full tap routine when you were 7 on Gimme a Break??? Joey…you give ME a break. LOL

  • Jessie

    This is ballroom PEOPLE.

  • Nancy Walker

Remember, he is an actor. Hypocrite-stage actor. This is the reason he is a liar. But he his drop dead gorgeous!

  • aramis

Ok, this is a big hint at my extreme nerd-dome…
Mario has been dancing all his life. I know this because I’ve followed his career since he was, and I kid you not…a flyboy for
    KIDS INCORPORATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t remember what season…but I think it was somewhere in between Martika and Jennifer Love Hewitt’s run on the show. He was a back up dancer. Look it up.
No formal training….then what, he plugged a USB cord into his head back in the 80s and downloaded the choreography to the show, never having to practice?
    Rrrrright.

  • paige

yea i realized he was lying when i was watching because of all those dancing episodes on saved by the bell… but either way, im psyched to see slater still working… and yes i will still be voting for him even though its obvious he’s a big liar.

  • Ed

Holy smokes, this is the most homoerotic season yet – Joey and Mario together! Did anyone else catch Joey on the Ellen show, man that outfit he was wearing made mine melt right off.
    Thank God for Tivo.
P.S. I’m waiting for the episode in which the men have to wear spandex (lets hope its when Joey and Slater are the last two standing).

  • David

I feel bad for Hamlin because of his wife. The dancing I could forgive but he’s definitely not nearly as charismatic or entertaining as she was.

  • Roberto

I guess you people didn’t listen to the question he was asked. He was asked if he has had any FORMAL training. Formal training involves years of training. Dancing when you are a kid or in a couple of episodes of Saved By The Bell is NOT formal training. Hours and hours and years and years of dancing in a studio and being taught by a teacher = formal training. Just because he was able to move his hips better than the rest does not mean he has formal training.
The fact that he was better than anyone on the show on the first night does not mean he has formal training. Get over it people. I know some of you went to Ballet class at a young age for a few years and are able to pick up or dance anything at this time. Does that mean you have formal training??? No, it doesn’t.
Enjoy the show, enjoy the performances and stop complaining. And that goes especially to you Whitney.
If you TIVO’d or DVR’ed the episode, see it again and listen to what he was asked.

  • Katie

Here’s the link to his dance on Saved By The Bell…classic.

  • Jessie

Didn’t he dance all the time on Saved by the Bell? At least, every couple of episodes there was some excuse for him to dance. Plus Kids Inc. where he danced all the time. I still look back fondly on the Pop Goes the World number.

  • Rod

Paige I am glad you pointed that out because yes that is where he frist started, so the boy has danced a lot..

  • Big Momma

Thanks for the link Katie. It brought back great memories of my daughter going crazy for Zack Morris!!

  • Robin

Mario Lopez danced on Kids Incorperated wearing LEGWARMERS back in 1984.
    Nuff said.

  • Someone

Er, Whitney – did you watch the show? He said he had no formal ballroom training, but did admit he was a former breakdancer and hip-hop dancer, and that his mother enrolled him in ballet and tap classes as a child. He was definitely downplaying things, but he didn’t say he had *never* danced – people who claim to have heard that have selective hearing!

  • Jyoti

And does anyone think that Drew Lachey didn’t have any kind of dance experience when he danced last year? He was in a boy band for god’s sakes. They all had some kind of dance experience. But is Mario formally trained? No. That women, the reporter last year who’s father was a salsa dancer or whatever, you think she never danced before? That she wasn’t taught to dance by her father or someone? And Willa Ford also had dance training, but none of them have had FORMAL dance training.
And Mario didn’t lie. He said he danced when he was younger and his mom signed him up for all sorts of things, but dancing around when you’re a kid and doing formal dances as an adult are two completely different things.
Not to mention that even people with years of dance don’t always have that ‘it’ factor. We saw it all summer on So You Think You Can Dance.

  • Madeleine

OMG, thank you Katie for that link. That just made my day.

  • gabe

I am wonder if Ali Landry will be voting for him. Those swiveling hips must take her down memory lane.

  • dance_fan

How can Emmitt’s dance be called the best one of the night, the most entertaining???
Watching it one more time I noticed how slow it was. This was the cha-cha. I thought the cha-cha was to be danced faster than how he danced it. Mario’s and Joey’s performances were far better overall than Emmitt’s. And as far as the most entertaining, Jerry’s was good (taking into consideration his age).
I am not hating on Emmitt. I think he surprised many and did a decent job. But that’s all he did, a decent job, nothing expectacular. I think he got high marks because he surprised everyone. On the same boat, Harry surprised many on how stiff he was. You would think he would have some practice under his belt after having his wife there for most of the last show. I would have kicked Harry out for this reason and I expect better from him on the next show.
Vivica needs to come down from her high cloud and show some humility, else her attitude will be her demise.
My votes are split between Mario and Joey.

  • Anne

Labeling a person a liar is serious business so before such a hateful word is used all the facts should be in. Of course, the show’s producers knew that Mario danced on Saved by the Bell. Is that formal ballroom dancing or training? Absolutely not.

  • Anne

Go Mario. Watching you dance is incredible and I hope you win it all.

Mario Lopez on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ posted by Aris on 09-13-2006 20:18
Mario Lopez will be on the midnight episode of Jimmy Kimmel: Live and a few of the members of the production team for Jimmy Kimmel inquired about him today via my site. They asked me to send footage of him on KIDS Incorporated. So my footage may be included on the show tonight! It’s at 12AM EST on ABC affiliate stations. Check it out! I’ll record it in case!
Update: Well that sequence didn’t end up airing, but I am flattered that they contacted me to entrust them with some Mario Lopez footage. However, I will share with you what was sent. These are basically just cuts from a few songs of KIDS Incorporated from the first 3 seasons. Of course, I sent it to them in DVD/MPG quality, not in WMV format, haha. You can download it unzipped here. It’s about 12MB.

It is very dissapointing that in a post started by an EW employee, such hard accusations as lying are being made. I think Whitney was watching another show. Instead of having an open post on the subject, she accuses. Mario did say he took classes while young and danced on the street, this does equal formal training or formal dancing. There are several stars there that we have seen danced, this does not mean they were formally trained. Whitney needs to go!!
