Is it time to tell the Soul Patrol to stand down? Justin Timberlake is (Sexy)back-tracking on his earlier trash-talking about Taylor Hicks. Actually, it’s sort of a non-apology apology, with JT’s publicist telling the Associated Press that the singer’s remarks ”were taken completely out of context.” Hmm, I didn’t realize there was a context in which ”He can’t carry a tune in a bucket” doesn’t come off as an insult.
Maybe the ”out of context” part referred to Timberlake’s remarks about the difficulties of sudden fame: ”If he has any skeletons whatsoever; if, God forbid, he’s gay, and all these people in Mississippi who voted for him are like, ‘Oh, my God, I voted for a queer!’ It’s just too much pressure.” I’ll buy that he wasn’t actually trying to imply that Taylor is gay or has other skeletons; he just said it in a clumsy way that should have riled not only Hicks but the entire state of Mississippi.
To his credit, Hicks himself has kept admirably silent about the whole affair. Still, someone must have pressured Timberlake into damage-control mode. Is the lesson here that you shouldn’t risk the wrath of the Soul Patrol, or that people who live in crass houses shouldn’t throw stones?
Pick a side, people: Team Soul Patrol or Team SexyBack?

Who cares! I kinda liked SexyBack, but Justin’s remarks have made me rethink buying future songs. I don’t even watch ‘American Idol’ anymore, but his comments where just plain wrong. So Justin, come foward and apologize!

I like Justin’s music, but the only reason he is apologizing is to hold on to his public. Taylor Hicks is definitely the classier, more honorable man.

Here, I’ve been blaming Kelly Clarkson’s silly Bold Moves/Go campaign for Ford’s downfall. I hope they didn’t pay her too much because they wasted their money. Twelve year olds don’t buy cars.
1st he slams Kanye now Taylor Hicks? That is soo random. Isn’t this the same stunt campaign Christina Aguilera used when she started insulting everyone from Beyonce to Mariah Carey thinking that people would think her comments where clever?
Justin is trying way too hard to fit in. Didn’t he start out in the Mickey Mouse Club? He wants cred bad and it shows. Knocking other artists is desperation in my book. Be real, put the CD out there, if it’s good, it will sell on it’s own merit. How much money is wasted on all this PR for these people? Taylor is annoying. Again, when his CD comes out, it will sink or swim. Music is subjective, I won’t be buying either.
I would like to remind JT that I’m very certain there were plenty of people throwing out the “can’t carry a tune in a bucket” rhetoric his way during his N’Sync days. As Josh indicated, I don’t know why these celebs feel the snobbish need to be taken WAY TOO SERIOUSLY by trashing on those doing exactly the same thing that he’s doing. Although I’m not a huge Taylor fan, he’s got what JT lost several years ago.. and that’s heart and love for what he does. It’s now all about the sex for Justin and countless of other artists. to the people who keep insisting his comments were homophobic- um, no. i think you missed his point. he was trying to insinuate that if taylor was gay that his southern-conservative backing from Mississippi would be outraged! THAT’S the stupid point he was trying to make. he’s not homophobic but basically he is judgemental in trying to say everyone in MS is narrow minded and bigoted and that is why Gary Susman makes the comment above that this comment should’ve riled not only Hicks but all of MS.
