Lindsay Lohan: Bad movie star! Bad movie star!

Categories: Film

161618__lohan_lSomeday, perhaps, Lindsay Lohan will be more famous for her movie roles than for her off-camera drama, but events like this keep making that day seem a long way off. Today comes a report that James G. Robinson, a producer of Lohan’s currently shooting film Georgia Rule, doesn’t buy her publicist’s assertion that the actress missed a day of work earlier this week because she’d been so ”overheated and dehydrated” that she had to be briefly hospitalized. Robinson reportedly sent her and all her entourage this letter, posted at The Smoking Gun, threatening her with all manner of unnamed penalties if her ”discourteous, irresponsible, and unprofessional” behavior continues.
There’s actually something sweetly naive about Robinson’s letter, as if public shaming actually worked to curb bad celebrity behavior anymore. It’s even been tried on Lohan before, as Defamer notes. Doesn’t Robinson know that proper Hollywood etiquette is for everyone on the set to praise each other in public until after the movie opens and tanks? Then you may feel free to trash each other in public, and then allow another discreet interval of time to elapse before you announce your next project together.

PopWatch doesn’t know if Lohan has actually read the letter or what she thinks about it; her publicist hasn’t responded to our e-mailed and telephoned requests for comment. (The rep also gave no comment to People, which quotes one of La Lohans’ associates as saying, ”She hasn’t been crazy partying. In fact, I’ve never seen her so together.”) But I’m sure the actress has her reasons. Who knows, maybe she’s just avoiding the set because  she’s creeped out about having to film a scene where she’s molested by that perv from The Crush.

La Lohan is probably working on a movie that has continuous rewrites, crappy story lines and crappy actors (what else is new). Therefore she’s trying to get kicked out of the movie all together. I would do the same thing if I was under contract. Maybe it’ll be a future plot line on a season of Entourage.

    Don’t diss Wesley

  • *****

I’m with Danielle, don’t mess with Wes.
Not to downplay the crap that La Lohan is pulling (She was working for twelve hours in the heat, wah! She just happened to be at parties then also, and head butting cars, but it was heat exhaustion.) but this letter is supposed to encourage some one to be professional?? Hello, pot, kettle calling.

  • Tyler

Lohan is a waist of space and a complete drama queen. She seems like a horrible person to. I don’t believe one second that she has/had “heat exhaustion.” She probably felt sick from the alcohol or drugs in her system.

  • Maeve

I think Lindsay is actually really talented. No really.
But I’m tired of seeing her in the tabloids and everything, she is ruining her career.

  • samp

i used to really really like lindsay..loved freaky friday, loved mean girls…but now she could fall off the earth and i would be sooo happy. she looks hammered all the time anyway.

  • t3hdow

I like Lindsey Lohan but after Mean Girls, her career has gone into a downward spiral; full of anorexia battles, mediocre films and tabloid stuffed news (her horrible dad, breast implant rumors, car accidents, etc.)
I forgot who said this in EW, but they make a great point. Lohan needs another hit movie, FAST. Otherwise, there’s no guarantee she’ll have much of a career anymore. It would be a shame if it ends that way, because as far as teen-turned-young-adult actresses are concerned, she’s one of the better ones. I never cared for Hilary Duff at all.

I admire this producer for formally calling her on her behavior. It is profoundly inconsiderate to have so many people’s work on hold when she is constantly seen romping in the tabloids. She has admitted in interviews that TIna Fey, Lorne Michaels, Meryl Streep and Lily TOmlin have all talked to her about her behaviors (weight loss and showing up late). Now this. Seems to me that she is pushing to get parental reactions out of anyone willing to play the role. As for her TRYING to get fired, I don’t buy it. The script is good enough for Felicity Huffmann and Jane Fonda to fulfill their obligations. Until she has an Oscar of her own, opens a movie bigger than Pirates or stops signing up for crap like “Just My Luck,” she hasn’t earned the right to pull such stunts without facing the consequences. How on earth is this the same girl from “Parent Trap” and “Freaky Friday” that I expected to be the next Jodie Foster? I hope that she goes into a year+ self-imposed exile to mature.

  • Lily

Didn’t Meryl Streep called her one of the hardest working actresses she knows?

  • heather

I just don’t get the hype and obsession America has for her. I mean if she wasn’t in magazines or on television gossip shows, she’d just be another young hollywood actress. She may not be a horrible actress, but her PR and manager(mom) have been working overtimethe last couple of years to make her more famous for her actions than her acting. I for one am happy that her professionalism was crticized in such a public manner, maybe she’ll grow up now.

  • Hollie

Way to go Morgan Creek for not putting up wih another ’starlet’s crap. Acting is a JOB, you go to the set on time, you do your job and you leave…just like every other freakin American who has a job. If you can’t handle it, then you shouldn’t do it!

  • ket

    Lindsay is becoming Tara Reid.

  • Elyse

She thinks just cause she has made it big, it’s time to kick back and enjoy it, but she needs to realize that you have to keep working for it once you get there….shes a spoiled brat.

  • Ed

Newbie, you need to get a clue – quickly!
Any movie, whether is has oscar winners or not can be a complete BOMB! Look at The Stepford Wives, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Brodrick, the guy that was on Madonna’s Bad Girl video and Bette Middler; great actors but the movie SUCKED! I’m surpised Nicole Kidman didn’t fake something in order to get kicked out of that movie.
La Lohan probably sees the editing and scrip approvals and is thinking, “I’m on a sinking ship fast”.
And as for you thinking that Jane Fonda and Felecity Huffman are worthy to work for, that line up alone would cause me to get drunk every night and PRAY to get fired!

  • newbie

    Ed,
OBVIOUSLY big stars and Oscar winners make bombs all of the time, that is my point…they fulfill their obligations even when the production starts to smell like low tide at the sewage plant. While not a big fan of either actress, all I meant was that both Jane and Felicity are well-respected in the industry and Felicity is coming off of an Oscar nomination AND an Emmy. No doubt the movie world would be a better place if everyone made better scripts and better production choices, but in the same respect, contracts are contracts. Landlords don’t have tolerance for the “rebel” who bails on an apartment, and Morgan Creek has the right to be miffed in their case. Watch 15 minutes of Judge Judy some day. Professionals in any bad situation work hard to keep their head above the muck and usually come out unscathed. And, if it is indeed her motivation, intentionally trying to get fired shows even less integrity than quitting, especially when so many other people’s jobs are being affected. Rare is the impeccable filmography, but there ARE actors where you say, “that movie stunk, but **** was great.” So, perhaps you still choose to consider me clueless, but all I am saying is that I think the guy had the right to call a pain in the rump a pain in the rump.

  • Ed

    Newbie,
This is Hollywood, no one cares about dignity or keeping a job just to be loyal – it’s all about ego and cashola. There’s a term in Hollywood called “play or pay” in which an actor will get paid whether or not their movie is made. If a movie script starts heading south or movie starts going over budget and the studio shuts it down, the actor gets paid anyway.
La Lohan probably doesn’t have that much power but at least she can get kicked out of a movie instead of making another Herbie.

  • cj

why the heck they didn’t get rachel even wood for this meaty role baffles me so much it’s infuriating.

  • newbie

    Ed,
Thanks for the info, I find it totally depressing. I guess integrity doesn’t matter. I think it is great that there are clauses to protect actors that have turned down other jobs to make a film whose production has gone south, but I don’t agree with a prima donna sabotaging a project with her behavior (whether intentionally b/c it’s not what she thought or simply b/c she’s too self-involved). Have you indeed heard that the script is bad or that there are production problems? How confident are you that she isn’t just being a nightmare? I think part of any career is slogging through and trying to learn something from the difficult experiences. And, occasionally, things turn out well (the Freshman, Apocalypse Now, etc). Actually, I think those and the tales of nightmare productions are some of the best Hollywood stories.

Sorry, but if you think the movie that you’re working on is crap, then leave. But Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman are managing just fine, so who the hell does LL think she is? Someone needs to give her a good smack, quite frankly. And remind her that the LEGAL drinking age is 21. Partying til 4 am then showing up on the set 30 minutes later, then having to leave because of the heat? Please. The sad part is,she isn’t a bad actress at all. She should take a page from Drew Barrymore, check into rehab and sort herself out. If not, she’ll be a has-been by the time she hits 21.

  • Maeve

Isn’t Morgan Creek the name of that water company from Seinfeld that was going to merge with Poland Spring, and they were going to call it “Moland Spring” or something and Elaine screwed up the merger by saying it was a bad name?

  • Ed2vi

    Newbie,
I haven’t even heard of this movie until LL’s antics (maybe her plot is working)but usually the smell in the air gives a good idea of what’s going on behind the scenes. Let’s take Mel Gibson for example; drunk driving conviction in Malibu this past week. His behavior might appear extreme to make this connection but the guy is 1. rich 2. respected as a director 3. rich. I really don’t think something minor as this conviction is going to ruin him in Hollywood. Let’s wait a couple of weeks and I bet we’ll be hearing about that movie he’s been directing which is completely in Arabic. I believe his actions were all a publicity stunt. Might sound extreme but any publicity is good publicity.
It’s the same with La Lohan, there’s a reason for her actions; I really don’t think stars are THAT careless with their careers.

  • Sally in Chicago

Meryl Streep took Lohan aside when they were filming the Prairie Companion and told her never to come to work again late. “Do you know who that man is? That man is Robert Altman and he won’t tolerate you showing up late.” (she was late the first day of filming)
    True story.

  • Emma

Shes not a good actress and shes a little pre madonna who does she think she is showing up 2 work late shes 20 years old and not exactly world famous like some of the actresses she has the privlage to work with. Thats something she needs to learn if she wants to work in the film industry. Hilary Duff is much better

  • ChicagoChris

I look at LL and Sean Young and see no difference. They both have reps spelled TROUBLE. Isn’t it odd that LL was not too “exhausted” or “ill” to get her latest tattoo and go sporting it all over town??? I bet Morgan Creek has plenty of pics to back up the allegations in its boss’s letter, too. Alas, poor Lindsay . . .
Next maybe Ms. Lohan will just have to tell her Mummy about what that big, mean studio boss said, and then her Mummy will probably squeal like a big, fat Hollywood sow–desperately afraid of losing her tasty, tasty meal ticket!

  • TorontoTom

Lindsay just needs a darn good spanking…

  • footballfrank

Sally in Chicago, I really hope you are kidding. A Mel Gibson publicity stunt? That has to be a joke. And yes, stars are THAT careless with their careers all the time. Most of the time it’s because they are suffering from some kind of alcohol or drug addiction that affects their choices to where they just don’t care about it anymore. Not saying that’s what’s wrong with Lindsey Lohan though.

  • Ed

I think Mel did know that something like this would get him publicity. Look at Paris Hilton, she’s selling records. If someone can get porked before the world, than a drunk person can be forgiven.

  • Denise

Emma you crack me up. Did you really mean “pre Madonna” or did you mean prima donna? (Italian for “a vain or undisciplined person who finds it difficult to work under direction or as part of a team”) Pre Madonna would be somebody before Madonna? Somebody who is turning into Madonna? The smae Madonna who is extremely successful and hardworking and is never rumoured to party?

  • Johnathan

Lohan is not “trying” to get herself fired. She’s drinking and doing drugs. It’s gross. She needs to grow up. Or go to rehab, either way…

  • mon

i think she’s a talented actress, but is in obvious need of a little R & R and i like that some adult in her life had the nerve to give it to her straight. should it have made it this public? prob not, but it had to be done. what’s hilarious is that her mom is mad and saying his letter was too mean or something for a young girl? it’s like, what? her mom likes to play the “she’s got asthma” card, but doesn’t address the heavy smoking she does…hmmm…anyways
