One look at The Pipettes‘ video for "Pull Shapes" makes me want to time travel-back to an era of hand claps and sweet female harmonies. And look at how much fun the people in the video are having! Life was more carefree — and campy — in the 1960s! The whole thing is so kitschy it could easily fit into a James Bond, Brigitte Bardot or Austin Powers flick. Is it legal to be so happy?

The video is pretty clearly a homage to Russ Meyer’s “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls”. Right down to the freaky old lady in the brightly-coloured wig!
It’s more or less a shot-by-shot remake of the “Sweet Talkin’ Candy Man” number from BVD. Very clever, and more enjoyable than Gus Van Sant’s notorious experiment with shot-by-shot remakes.
