Get caught up in Emmy highlight reels

Categories: Emmys, Television

Just when I was about to finish my morning blogging and attempt to clean off my desk, the good folks at Gold Derby had to go and spoil my plans by posting YouTube videos of the episodes that this year’s Emmy nominees submitted to the awards’ judging panels to highlight their strongest work. (Click here for the full video slate, and here for an explanation of how the process works.) I don’t know what you were planning to do this afternoon, but I’ll bet you’d rather review Lisa Kudrow’s ”Valerie Does Another Classic Leno” or Will Arnett’s ”Making a Stand.” Or perhaps you’d be better off getting some insight on which episodes Stockard Channing, Kevin James, and Two and a Half Men submitted to beat out some of their more critically beloved rivals for a nod. Whatever you do, though, try not to let your boss catch you in the act, and be sure to share with your fellow PopWatchers which episodes impressed you the most (and the least). Me, I’m thinking Law & Order: SVU’s Mariska Hargitay’s ”911" is going to (finally) get her to the podium this year. I mean, it’s a pretty awesome achievement to act opposite an inanimate object for almost an hour and make it riveting. And, no, that’s not a knock on her nominated costar, Christopher Meloni, it’s…oh, just watch it and see for yourself.

Hey, Slezak…while I love your eventual Comeback conversion, I’m surprised there’s been no noise about Deadwood’s shut out of this year’s Emmy’s. Was it (last year’s eps, not this summer’s)?

I may be starved for things to do to make time pass at work (like many others I’m sure)… but Slezak has gone too far! Can’t you see, this is part of his evil plan to get everyone at work fired. This is wildly too addictive and WAY too much like being at home watching TV, which will get me and everyone else fired instantly. I can hear the evil cackling now…

    Hey Slezak,
It’s bad enough EW has this blog updated daily, and hourly if need be, to waste my time with. But now to be given the link to all these tapes? I may never do work again. Thanks for giving me a new reason to procrastinate, I’m always looking for new excuses besides “Let’s have a beer” or “Hey the paint drying show is on, let’s watch that.”

    Slezak,
you are about the only one that cares about the Emmys, sure there may be some people born in the 50’s, and of course the nominees and the Academy of Television old and feeble. But use this space to cover something culturally significant.

If you’re so anti-Emmys, why are you following this blog? It’s been Emmy-riffic for a few weeks.
And thanks for the “Valerie Does Another Classic Leno” link. I’ve been needing something to hold me over until The Comeback DVD comes out next month.
