Who should get Emmy nominations?

153759__comeback_l_1We’re only about a month away from Emmy nomination announcements, and Gold Derby has posted a fascinating rundown of which shows and actors are lobbying for peer recognition. To date, no money’s been spent on ”for your consideration” trade ads for dearly departed favorites such as Arrested Development, Alias, and Everwood (though some of the shows’ cast members are getting pushes). Even more puzzling to me, though, is the absence of a push for the awesomely hateful Lance Barber (The Comeback’s Paulie G) and Emily Procter, whose Calleigh Duquesne is pretty much the only reason to watch CSI: Miami anymore.

On the flip side, series seeking their initial nominations range from totally deserving (Battlestar Galactica, The Comeback) to downright bizarre (how ironic that the funniest thing about NBC’s Teachers is the materialization of its ridonkulous Emmy campaign).

Whatever happens, a nomination for any of the following folks — Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff or Tricia Helfer, Arrested Development’s Will Arnet, or Desperate Housewives‘ Harriet Sansom Harris — would make my month. And a nomination for The Comeback’s Lisa Kudrow, who dug so deeply and fearlessly into her Valerie Cherish character for 13 sad, funny, and underappreciated episodes — well, that would make my frackin’ year. But, of course, you already knew that. So tell me, who would you like to see get an Emmy nod come July 8? And who shouldn’t go seeking it in the first place?

you forgot Gregory Itzin from 24 – he definately needs to be nominated

  • jeff s

all I know is Jamie Pressly BETTER get a nomination!

  • jeff s

Jamie Pressly – My Name Is Earl that is

  • Ron

Nominations wish list: Big Love outshined the Sopranos this season. Just compare the finales. 24(the Prez and the First Lady, and the best season thusfar), Arrested Development, Scrubs, the Office, and thank you for reminding me about the Comeback. It was so painful to watch in the beginning, but I’m glad I stuck around. What a payoff. It deserved another season.

  • Misa

    Buffy!
SMG should always get emmys, no matter how long Buff’s been off air.

  • s. shortcake

I second Jamie Pressley and Will Arnet (if he won I would totally expect the Final Countdown to play and for him to do the dance across the stage, I would watch the Emmy’s for that)and add Chandra Wilson.

Oh, the Emmys, another year for them to fail miserably. Everyone should be aware that unlike the oscars, and tonys, who only give an award out to one performance, actors playing the same role year after year, can get nominated… (there really should be a limit to an actor being recognized for the same role) which is why I find the Emmy’s to be totally irrelevant to anything coming to close to merit. Still here are my hopes.
I hope that Gilmore Girls finally gets recognized as the breakthrough comedy or drama that it is. Along with its stars.
I hope Kirstin Bell of Veronica Mars, clinches a spot in the Dramatic series.
I hope Battlestar Gallactica gets to rough it out with LOST as best drama.
and I hope Mary Louise Parker’s brilliant performance in Weeds does the same thing that it did to the Desperate Housewives ladies. But only if they once again ignore Eva Longoria’s brilliant second season. she was the only reason to watch DH.
I hope Grey’s Anatomy is declared the most nominated series of the year and that all the actors are invited to the competition.
and I hope Lauren Ambrose’s final performance in Six Feet Under clinches her the supporting actress in a Drama Emmy, those final moments alone were life changing. and what is not Emmy Worthy than an actor changing your life.

To add: I know this probably won’t happen, but anything for Veronica Mars would make me a happy Emmy viewer. And I never watch them.
Misa, I miss Buffy and the Scoobs too.

  • Miles

PS: I hope the Emmy’s recognize Everwood as the gem of great television it was. and give it an accolade worthy of making that two letter network cringe with regret.

Eko from Lost, T-bag from Prison Break. Any others from those shows would work for me, too.

I’m a little afraid that Grey’s Anatomy isn’t going to be taken seriously come Emmy time although Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsey, Kate Walsh and – yes I said it – Ellen Pompeo all deserve nominations (despite what you feel about Meredith, Pompeo deserves a nod for just one line, “you don’t get to call me a whore.”) As for DH, Eva Longoria deserves her nod and while Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross were good this year, if they are left out maybe it’ll make them mad and demand better storylines next year. As for the other networks, um, there are other networks besides ABC?

  • dmac

I’m sure they will pass over very good shows like Girlfriends, and pass over very good actresses like Tracee Eliss Ross and Jill Marie-Jones.. Both of who can out act Terri Hatcher and Eva Longoria any day. Now I wont say they are on the level of Marcia Cross. But they are definately good, and have been passed over season after season on thier amazing show.. Therefore, Since these award shows are clearly racist and biast. Why does it even matter? Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, All pointless if you ask me. Nothing but bureacracy controls them all.

DO NOT forget abput Kate Winslet (and her “oompa-loompas”)for her guest appearance in “Extras” on HBO.

  • Vance

funny how two of the best shows around are both cancelled (Arrested Development for Comedy and Everwood for Drama). For surviving shows, I’d have to give them to The Office, Veronica Mars and Lost, all which had exceptional seasons. I do hope Tishina Arnold gets one for Best Actress in a Comedy for Everybody Hates Chris. (and while it will NEVER happen, a Best supporting for Chris Pratt of Everwood (or pretty much anybody from that brilliant cast) would be AWESOME).

GILMORE GIRLS, VERONICA MARS, GREY’S ANATOMY, SCRUBS, MEDIUM, THE OFFICE, ALIAS, MY NAME IS EARL, NIP/TUCK, RESCUE ME…

  • jacki

I would be disappointed to see Ellen Pompeo get a nod because for me, her character just wasn’t as good as many others I have seen in a dramatic lead (Kristen Bell to name one). She paled next to several of her co-stars. Not to say she’s bad.
    Anything for Arrested Development.
    Chandra Wilson from Grey’s.
    Sandra Oh from Grey’s.
    Jason Lee from Earls’.
    Jamie Pressley from Earl’s.
I’d love to see Malcom get anything. I think they were gypped several times over their run.
My wishful thinking would put Medium in there too.

  • PWeekly

Umm… Why wasn’t Sarah Michelle Gellar nominated for her work on Buffy?
    Haters.

  • jacki

I forgot about Juliette Lewis on Earl. She was freakin awesome.

  • jacki

why do they have britney spears on this list?
    my other wtf was joey.

  • Heather

I think for Drama (Male) Keifer will get a nom and I think Julian McMahon should get one. Nip/Tuck was a little uneven this season but he played fractured and caustic with such conviction. Drama (Female)- Julia from N/T (forgot her name at the moment) and Kristen Bell from VM are worthy. I am sure some DH’s will get noms too. Comedy (Male) is such a good category as you could literally put the entire male cast of the Office in there vs. Earl and I could be happy with any result. Comedy (Female) should at least have Jenna Fisher from The Office in there and of course Jamie Pressly who’s Joy is just a delight. I really feel like this is the year of “The Office” though and I am happy about that.
Some will kill me but I don’t think Gilmore Girls is worthy this season. It was a decent season but felt a little off to me and I found the season finale very unsatisfying. I didn’t find this year to be in line with the characters we know and love so I am hoping next year will be the year it gets back on track.
I haven’t watched The Emmy’s in a few years so I am not sure about how the Supporting Actor/Actress categories go, but anyone from 24 was great in a supporting role and anyone who couldn’t get Lead consideration from The Office would be worthy there.

  • jacki

    Giovanni Ribisi for Earl too.
Sorru for the multiples, I’m reading the list now.

  • jacki

    Krys Sedgwick for The Closer.

  • lyn

Law and Oder SVU. Christopher Meloni PLEASE! Mariska Haritay. Any supporting nods as well.

  • Jenet

I agree with Jamie Pressley! Joy is such a scene-stealer, even with a strong overall cast. Jason Lee should be nominated again, too.
And from The Office, I’d give Steve Carrell, John Krasinski (Jim), and Jenna Fisher (Pam) nominations. Hell, throw in Rainn Wilson (Dwight), too. The whole cast is brilliant!
And finally, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Terry O’Quinn, Mr. Eko and John Locke respectively, should be nominated for their work on Lost. The whole show could just be about those two wandering through the jungle, and I’d still watch!

  • s. shortcake

Why does it not surprise me that VMars has no current campaign, per this list?

  • Poochie

I also agree that Mr. Eko from LOST should get a nomination

  • Maria

John Krasinksi (The Office), Rainn Wilson (The Office), Jean Smart (24), Gregory Itzin (24), the entire cast of the dearly departed Arrested Development.

  • mon

Christopher Meloni of SVU is heartbreaking, tough and cool all at the same time and Jaime Pressley is hilarious in Earl.
Everwood as a show or at least any of the cast members for something!

  • T-Bone

I truly hope that that the Emmy voters dont forget Six Feet Under. The last 8 episodes were amazing! The whole cast should be nominated. I just recently rewatched the “All Alone ” episode of Six Feet and it was so unbelievably realistic…totally blew me away….Lost also deserves some love……

  • Stephanie

Marcia Cross for her showdown with Matthew on Desperate Housewives. That was AWESOME!!
