R.I.P., 'Everwood'

Categories: Television

194116__ever_lEverwood fans, it’s time to dig your sackcloth and ashes out of storage: It pains us greatly to report that the critically beloved drama (starring Treat Williams, pictured) will not be making the move to the new CW network in the fall, according to sources close to the show. Apparently The CW has no need for the best-written family drama on television. This injury to quality programming is made all the more heinous by the rumors that the insipid One Tree Hill, starring serial husband Chad Michael Murray, has been renewed. Oh, the vicissitudes of network television! It’s enough to make you read a book. But wait, before you go that far, start the healing process right now by posting your thoughts about Everwood’s all-too-early demise.

Wow what a way to take shot oth, a show i like as much as ew, and why do you care about chad’s personal life any ways. geez get a life. maybe they should of canceled the lowest rated show on the cw , veronica mars. nobody watches it.

  • Ryan

I can only pray that ABC Family will remain undeterred in their decision to rerun the show starting this fall, since we “Everwood” fans will simply HAVE to get our fix somehow.

  • joe nobody

just glad i have every ew episode downloaded, i didnt start watched till halfway thur season 2, so i still have 1 1/2 more seasons left, so it lives on for me

  • stef

Oh my gosh I can’t believe that Everwood isn’t getting renewed! It’s awful news! This show is so great and it is just depressing to hear this.

  • Phil

NOOOOO!!!!! I love the show. I can’t believe it got canceled. They keep One Tree Hill & Smallville, but can Everwood? Is the CW the next Fox Broadcasting, canceling good shows? That sucks.

  • Sarah

It makes me sad that shows like Everwood get missed by general audiences. It’s such a well-written and well-acted show, and I don’t understand why people don’t watch. It’s like Arrested Development (yep, I’m still grieving). It just seems that networks don’t have a need for smart programming, and just want to shove the reality and crime shows down our throats instead.
I hope that Chris Pratt especially finds some new work ASAP, Bright is my favorite on Everwood and I just love the actor.

  • JOEY

    CANCEL THE CW

  • Jason

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…. and they kept 7th Heaven? UGH!!
Well on the bright side, they’re keeping Veronica Mars. I guess I couldn’t have both shows on the same network. Too much of a good thing. :(

  • Vance

I’m a man and I think Im going to cry. Or yell at someone at The CW… AHHHHHHHHHh WHAT THE @#$@%@#$#@%^!^#@%
Everwood has grown into one of the BEST SHOWS EVER!… EVER!!! and it’ll be a sad lost. Unforgivable lost almost (yah, especially knowing One Tree Hill will probably make it).

  • Amelia

Why do so many great shows get cancelled too early? Freaks and Geeks, American Dreams, Arrested Development, and now Everwood. I can’t take this!! At least I still have “The Office” season 3 to look foward to. That almost makes up for it.

  • nina

And that trainwreck known as _7th Heaven_ has also been renewed. It was bad enough hearing that news but now _OTH_? Way to kick a crestfallen _Everwood_ fan while they’re done. Well done, CW.

  • Bryden

Ridiculous. A television tragedy. Everwood is, without a doubt, one of the top shows on any network.

  • MIke

How horribly sad, this is one of the best shows on the air with almost solid ratings every night, bad move CW, what with the cancellation of three prominate shows, Charmed, 7th Heaven and Everwood there is little hope that any viewers will show up.

  • SmiteTheCW

The most engaging, poignant, and clever show on television is forced to end prematurely. Shame on you, CW. SHAME!

  • Jemma

Aghh.. No Everwood just one more year please wouldn’t the CW rather give a critically aclaimedshow a chance in more markets the renew OTH which looks soapier then the soaps (though Ive never seen it) Oh and while I like the first few seasons of 7th Heaven it way past it prime go out with what little dignity you have and put the money to deloping more family friendly programs on and Keep a real family quality family show on. Ps my letter was returned unopened!!

  • Roland

I wouldn’t be surprised if another network picks up “Everwood,” so don’t call the gravediggers just yet!

  • Chris McVetta

“Everwood” is the BEST, well-written family drama on television today! I swear, if the CW won’t pick it up, I will never watch that sorry network ever again!
Kudos to another “smart” network that does pick it up – because I will watch that GREAT show to the end of time.
    The CW = “Completely Worthless”
Stephen King, get off your ass and write about this fabulous show!!!
The id and I – “More fun than a barrel of journalists!”

You’ve GOT to be kidding me!!!! I’ve loved Everwood from the start. It’s the only how my family has agreed to watch every week, if you can believe that. And I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from others, as well. We’re a bit sick to our stomachs over this news and wonder how valid the sources are. If it’s true, then is it possible that Everwood will be picked up by another network?! I’d follow the show anywhere!!!!

  • megan

THIS CAN’T BE TRUE PLEASE TELL ME ITS NOT!!
I LOVE EVERWOOD SO MUCH ITS MY HEART AND SOUL WITHOUT IT I’LL BE DEAD.. PLEASE DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN. DONT LET EVERWOOD GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE.

  • Jenna

Everwood is such a boring show and I’m glad this sappy show with that whinny Ephram got the ax. And yeah One tree Hill is way better.

  • Jenna

If this is true, I will not watch a single CW show (even Smallville, though I love it). It is my sincere hope that this new network fails if that is the case. MORONS!!!! TRAVESTY!!!!!! PSYCHOTIC DEVOTION TO A TV SHOW?? HE!! YES!!!

  • mike

Insipid is a nice way to describe One Tree Hill. Story lines are all over the map. CW network picking this over Everwood proves a smart show won’t last on any network

  • Rosemarie

I’m completely disgusted. Trust me, I’ll never waste my time even checking out what THE CULTURAL WASTELAND has to offer. I now know too much about the caliber of their executives’ taste.

  • Kristina

This is horrible news. I love this show. I wish that another network would pick it up…but I am not optimistic. What a tremendous and abrupt loss, especially wiht no real resolution. The anticipation of the other less than compelling dreck that will end up on the CW. What terrible terrible decision.

  • ShaneXtopher

I am crestfallen. This does not bode well for fans of quality television. The CW had a real opportunity to incorporate quality TV in its new lineup, but its decision to cancel Everwood in favor of One Tree Hill (garbage) and ANOTHER season of 7th Heaven (candy-coated garbage) gives me littl ehope for the new net. I’ll watch Veronica Mars, but other than that, I’m already giving up on the CW.

  • Barry

I’ve given up on television. One Tree Hill, with it’s amateurish writing and directing and watered down teen sudser storylines gets picked up, and the most critically acclaimed show on either network(along with Veronica Mars)gets passed over?. I hope the CW people enjoy their fist season, because it could be their last. Idiots!.

  • Meg

I’m more upset about this cancellation than Arrested Development. At least FOX had credible reasons to cancel AD. It did terribly in the ratings and was only losing the network money.
Everwood, on the other hand, has been a solid performer ratings-wise no matter where it was put and has received tons of critical support.
    This just makes no sense.

  • Roger

    OMG. This is not happening.
CW, I pity you. Without Everwood, you won’t have much of anything that’s worth a darn, especially if you renew 7th Heaven (total cop-out, in my opinion).
I won’t be watching any new CW shows. I’m going to finish the shows I’ve started, but that’s it. After that, I’m done. I can’t support a network that cancels WONDERFUL shows like Everwood (that happen to do pretty well in the ratings).
If this is true, Thursday will be a sad day and one that I will spend writing long letters to the CW executives.

  • eliana

okay i think people are being way to immature about the situation i know ppl are very upset but theres no need to insult a show that u havent seen(one tree hill)..im sorry but if the CW picked one tree hill its because the fans are loyal & its a great show (& its not like a soap opera type)..it makes me mad that ppl talk bad about the show & they havent even seen it!..well i hope everwood gets picked up but another network..but with all the one tree hill fans backing up the network there will be no problem!

  • al

    SAVE EVERWOOD
This is the best show on television and to have Everwood canceled in the wake of the crapfest that is 7th Heaven and One Tree Hill is unnecessarily cruel. I love the cast, the story, everything about this show — there is so much more to tell and ending it now is a stupid and idiotic move on the CW’s part.
I, for one, will not tune in to the CW next season. And yes, I’m a 18-24 year old female. Way to ruin my favorite show ever.
    AND WHERE ARE THE DVDS?
