Remember way back in February when Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo sort of casually mentioned in an interview that someone would be leaving the hospital intern program this season? Well, here we are but two episodes (and three hours) away from the end of the season, and I still have no idea who it might be. Until last night’s ep, I would have said that evil Alex Karev would smart-mouth his way into getting permanently benched, but then he went and saved a baby’s life and his heart grew three times too big or whatever. Sadly, it seems more likely that the increasingly inappropriate relationship between Izzie (pictured) and her patient/crush/cuddlebug Denny will get her booted from Seattle Grace.
But what does that mean? Will she leave the show? Go work at another hospital across town with less banter, ethnic diversity, and sex with coworkers? Will she hit the sauce and return to her trailer-park roots? Decorate Meredith’s house with a different holiday theme each week?
What do you think? Are Izzie’s days numbered? Or does that evil genius Shonda Rhimes have some other dastardly plan up her sleeve?

Really don’t want to see her go but it seems to be happening just like you said.
I think the deal is that someone is leaving the “program” but not the show. I thought for a while that Alex would leave but I’m not sure how they would incorporate him into the show otherwise. I think it’s got to be Izzy or George since they live with Meredith. Hard to say!!
What if McDreamy left because he just couldn’t handle working with Meredith if he couldn’t have her? Perish the thought!!
McDreamy isn’t an intern so it’s not him. That also goes for Addison, Burke and Baily. I think we also should keep in mind that they have dropped other story lines before too so this may not play out. If it’s anyone it will probably be Izzy, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see her or whomever drops out to reapply to the program at a later date. Alex’s character hasn’t been fully explored enough to let him go. There is too much potential there. Izzy has a lot of personal reasons and stories outside of the hospital. Maybe a curveball and it will be Cristina. Or George for having sex in the basement.
Izzie and George are my favorites and Christina is like a shot of tabasco for that show. If any of them left, it would be hard to keep watching.

I could see Izzie leaving the surgical program if Denny died. Kind of a, “What am I doing here if I can’t save the man I love?” scenario. She’d make a great non-surgical doctor, so perhaps she’ll leave the surgical intern program and be a regular ol’ doc at Seattle Grace. Perhaps specializing in patients with heart conditions. The end.
I think alex is going to go from Surgery to OG/Gyn after last night’s episode but he will still be around the hospital.
Shonda Rimes is notorious for false clues. Remember the ‘bisexual’ planned storyline? Neither do I. And if their leaving the program, the can be promoted, right? To a Bailey-level doctor?
I read the intern was leaving the surgeon intern program, not the hospital. Which is why I think it’s Karev.
They have to go through the internship before becoming an attending. Else how could Baily teach them if she hasn’t been through it? You have to intern to specialize. One could leave the surgical program to intern in another specialty. That would require starting all over I believe and I don’t think that anyone has shown enough interest in another specialty to do that. Although Alex’s story last night could be the start, but I find it doubtful. It wouldn’t surprise me to have a new intern introduced and have them drop out.
The person who supposedly leaves the program isn’t leaving the show. I hear that Denny gets a heart, but that doesn’t mean he’ll live. I like him but the story is old.
Does anyone remember when McSteamy was there? He and Alex seemed to bond over plastic surgery.. I always thought that Alex would leave to pursue that.. Just a thought
Izzy leaving Grey’s anatomy. Why? I would be so sad to see her go… but if she ends up on another pilot, and said pilot gets scheduled against Grey’s anatomy, I will go wherever she takes me… she’s one of my main reasons for watching the show.
when a show works well, chemistry wise… it’s very dangerous to fiddle with the cast… I am still upset of Johny Depp being replaced by Richard Grieco in 21 Jump Street… can Grey’s Anatomy jump the proverbial shark in in third season… I can see it happenning… but at least season 2 rocked it.
I really, REALLY hope it’s Izzie. Her character is annoying and unnecessary. And did I mention annoying? Good riddance, I say (if it’s her).
It’ll probably be Izzy, but I think she’ll still be on the show, just not part of the surgical internship program. Maybe she’ll end up in the ER or something. But I can’t see her going to another hospital. What would be the point? If they do that, she might as well just be written off the show.

It better not be Izzie! Her bodacious ta-ta’s and smokin’ a$$ are the reason I, and many more men, tolerate watching the show with our wives!
Remember, it’s leave the program, not the show. I doubt it would be Izzy. Given her background, I don’t think she’d throw all her hard work away on some dying guy. I think she’ll be punished harshly but she’ll be back. Instead, I think it could be George (to spend more time with Callie) or Alex (because of who he is and not passing his board exams before) or even Meredith (she’s flaky and rich and can afford to swith to another program where McDreamy isn’t a factor). Def. not Cristina who is too psyched to cut people open…
Doubt it would be George- he has a new plot twist with the girlfriend and being nice to Meredith again. Christina wouldn’t be a good choice b/c she is having a fling with Burke and she is blood thirsty (in a good doctor-y kind of way). It can’t be Meredith b/c..well…it’s called Grey’s Anatomy and she is Meredith Grey (and she said it wasn’t her already). I seriously thought it was going to be Alex, but after last night I am leaning more toward Izzy. She can leave the intern program, which would give her more time to be home-health nurse to Denny. This also means she can still be a doctor at the hospital (just not a surgeon). Since they played up how miserable Denny was and how much he has lost and wants to go home- this would be the easiest way out for the writers.

i really think that dr. mcdreamy could take me away from this place called pennsylvania. i need a serious pick me up down there.. if you know what i mean. the way he just pulverizes his patients OH GOD!!!!!
After the season finale it leaves you thinking its Izz y because she says she quits but there is always a twist she could change her mind. For all we know it could be George he never was much of a surgeon it seemed.

Whether Izzie changes her mind or not about whether she wants to leave, do you honestly think she’d still be in the program? If they actually keep her in the program after what she did, then I will lose all respect for the show. Don’t get me wrong, I love her, but there’s no way.

I like to know more about her story than the other 2 girls. I love George too but not as much as Izzie.
Mere and Christina have got to realise how lucky and thankful that they’ve found someone who truly love them an admirer (mer/finn,mer/geo) or a mentor/teacher who is their lover(Mer/Der & Cri/Burke)and savour the moment instead of complaining all the time.
