Double Vision: Sienna Miller, Jessica Simpson, and everyone else

102532__sunglasses_lYou know what I love on a lady? Ginormous sunglasses and a nice head scarf. Brings me back to my agrarian roots, working the earth with my bare hands under the hot Neapolitan sun.

I’m guessing that’s the look that (from left to right) Sienna Miller, Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Ashlee Simpson, and, um, every other actress under 30 is going for.

So here’s to the maverick spirit of originality in Hollywood — congrats, ladies!

No, not all actresses, just the talentless sluts that unfortunately, the american public can’t just seem to get enough of.

I’m sorry if this sounds overeager, but you, Mickey O’Connor and Scott Brown are the titans of popwatch glory. Just letting you know.

Wow, Sienna looks… awful. Seriously. I don’t think I’ve seen her look quite that poorly since the whole Jude Law-caught-naked-and-shtupping-the-nanny scandal days. Ouch.
The whole oversized sunglasses and head scarf trend is one I hope will die a nasty, painful death soon… much like I continue to hope for the Ugg Boots epidemic of three years ago that continues to linger on to this day.

Not to defend these starlets, who indeed lately seem to go out more than they do work, but these (the scarves, the sunglasses, etc.) are trends. Every other girl follows them.
I’ve always thought it more irresponsible for the media to assign (and for parents to buy into) the role of role models to these starlets.
Pink’s new song it quite on the money – there has been a movement in the 2000s to dumb America down (from the dumb president that rules us with a condescending stick, to ABC mandating Alias, to reign of Paris Hilton, to the encouragement to endulge our egos on the roads, on our cells at the movies, at the check out line at the store, to acting stupid). I love that Pink’s put it out there to the tune of a catchy song, but I don’t get why everyone’s acting all surprised. That said, it’s kind of judgmental of her to poke fun at Mary-Kate Olsen, for instance, whose only stupid act, per the video, is to dress the way she does. Pink sure has a point, and I appreciate that she recognizes that she, too, can be a stupid girl. She’s taking personal responsibility…
…which is something we should all do instead of worrying ’bout all these starlets looking alike.
EW, I love ya, but don’t feed the beast. I know to ask you to remind us to make a donation to AIDS or cancer or whatever research, or to donate blood, or to be concerned over what’s happening in Tchad or the Sudan, is not your beat, but let’s keep things in perspective. Blogging’s hot – but how ’bout we don’t waste more time in mindless things like counting how many times these girls have worn the same thing. Make us think – even if it’s with little things as making us guess whose baby picture we’re looking at or connecting two distant stars.

The Olsen twins look like Micheal Jackson!

  • Don

And Jessica Simpson has Kirk and Michael Douglas’s chin!!

    Martin,
When I first saw your comment today I was thinking wow this guy really wrote a long speech here, normally when something writes long like that I usually ignore it but you sure were right, I feel exactly the way you do. Sure EW‘s blog is fun and puts good and entertaining topics on to comment on. But remember these girls are making millions of on us whenever we buy one of their god awful perfumes, jackass movie, or retarded interviews on E! And when they fall from so called grace (ahem..ashlee simpson anyone on SNL)i for one will just sit back and laugh and laugh. These girls are set for life, but remeber life has a way of teaching everyone a lesson. Peace you all….

The one common denominator (aside from the AmEx Black card) is Rachel Zoe. She’s the stylist/personal shopper/hanger-on who comes up with these combinations. To her credit, she does wear her own inspired (re: insipid) ideas, except she’s at least ten years older than her clients, making her look wildly age-inappropriate.
And as for the Ugg boots, I was in DC a few months ago and passed by a throng of middle-schoolers on field trips. I feel comfortable in saying that 97 percent wore some variation of puffy parka + jeans tucked into Uggs or knock-offs. So if it took three years for the look to trickle down to middle-American ‘tweens, imagine how much longer we have to endure the agrarian-Neopolitan look. I weep.

This may sounds dumb, however, I am not one of those “stupid girls” but I love the scarf trend. You can get away without showering and you can change up your look without spending a gazillion dollars on extensions or dye jobs…though the huge sunnies make these lollipop heads look like bugs.

with regard to the pictures posted here–another common denominator is that they’ve all got blond hair…not saying anything…just pointing out the obvious….

Also every girl at the University of Western Ontario. We call them Western Princesses here and they spawn like mad!

  • Kyle

They all need to eat a frickin’ cheeseburger!!!

  • Deborah

The only female to ever carry off the oversized sunglasses look was the very classy Jackie O, unfortunately she’s long gone. This latest batch of blond lemmings shouldn’t even bother to try.
