Guess I was expecting something more momentous from a collaboration between LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, and video auteur Hype Williams than this clip, which debuted Monday on MTV’s TRL. (It should be playing at MTV.com’s Overdrive page any time now, but until then, you can catch it at YouTube.)
The song itself, in which LL Cool J tries to pick up a club hottie, sounds like a retread of Tone-Loc’s ”Wild Thing” over the beats from Missy Elliott’s ”Lose Control.” The visuals are nothing special, though the triple horizontal split-screen effect Williams uses throughout the clip allows the viewer to see both the rapper’s abs and J. Lo’s assets at the same time, which I guess is what’s important. All in all, a little too controlled.

I think it actually is a remix of Wild Thing. Not to mention that the song sucks.
Song is bad. Video is a mess. I was totally disappointed by the whole thing since I like both J.Lo and LL.
I actually really dug the song, derivative as it is. Maybe I’m too white to hate on it, but it definitely got my gay booty shakin.
The song defintely sucks and Hype Williams needs to stop that multiple split screen thing, like on the ruined Beyonce “Check On It” video, because it isn’t cool, it’s disorienting. Maybe if LL spent as much time on his beats as he does his body, this would be good.
Hugs & Kisses to all my niggaz
I agree. The song is a mess. The video is nice to look at, considering its imagery has to as kaleidoscopic as the song.
And it’s a SoSoDef production at that. Weird, Jermaine Dupri has been on such a high streak lately. Is he only good with Usher and Mariah?

Dead on about the Tone Loc/ Missy thing. His latest songs have been trying so hard to fit into a market place that doesn’t need him. Don’t get me started on the “headsprung” fiasco. That was embarassing for all parties involved.
Okay I have to comment not so much LL but Hype Williams who directed this video. STOP WITH THE SPLIT SCREEN IMAGE! This makes the fourth video with this format? Jamie Foxx’s Unpredictable, Ne-Yo’s So Sick, Beyonce’s Check On It, now this one? The song is an old beat and now that video look is worn out. Sorry LL!
Ok, I’ll dissent. i love it. but i’m a sucker for the beginning with JLo and “uno, dos, tres, ¡muévete!”
At the risk of sounding left from centre, i really like it, i heard it first at the club and it was stunning, the beat can only be appreciated in that environment, furthermore the track was never intended to change your view on r’n'b, just take it for what it is and dance, drink and have a good ass time, i mean if everyone stopped hatin’ and started appreciating, there would be more smiles . . . just get on with it. LL & J LO – good work.
I like that song its really cool…except the ending was kinda stupid….i think i just like the beat
=)
i lurvv the song off propa gd but the video is a piece wierd
that song really sucks and yes that style of video is definately worn out now.. the beyonce song and the slim thug song was tight but i hope i never see another video like that again. how stupid do they think we are? LL Cool J is just showing off his muscles as usual and has no talent. J Lo has no talent and sounds like she’s trying to be Fergie from the black eyes peas. fuck that song
4get ya’ll haterz…the song is great! and the creativity and unusualness of the video is great 2…lets think outside the box u guys…I’m tired of the same old thing since 96. And the beyonce and slim thug video was sickening, with all that DAMN pink….Because of the beat of this club amped song, the split screen image actually works for the Control Myself video
This is actually a crazy sampling of Afrika Bambataa’s Looking for the Perfect Beat, if you knew anything about hip hop you’d see how straight this actually is. Bambataa was the man and thanks to him you guys can sit up here trashing it
im a j.lo fan but this song has been a disappointment and i totally agree with people on the split screen its annoying and doesnt look too good. on the other hand i heard the song before i watched the video so its not all bad
The video is dissapointing. The song is even WORSE. I actually like LL & J.LO but this is a bad trainwreck. This also makes the sixth time Mr. Williams used the triple pane/split screen treatment in his videos.
Slim Thug’s video
Robin Thicke & Pharell’s “Wanna Love U Girl”
Jamie Foxx’s “Unpredictable”
Beyonce’s “Check On It”
Ne-yo’s “So Sick”
Hype get some NEW Damn Ideas! For Once!
I think LL doesn’t care about the way he sounds, he just looking to make people move. No, the song isn’t trash. But it’s no “Heads Rung”… Aiight.
i love the new song control myself i wish i had it but i dont have enoghf money to buy it

WE NOW RETURN ‘CONTROL’ TO YOU:
“Control Myself” (Def Jam) by LL Cool J featuring Jennifer Lopez sets the record for the highest new re-entry in the 48-year history of the Billboard Hot 100. By returning to the chart at No. 4, “Control Myself” beats the previous record, set by Jay-Z when his Broadway/rap merger of the “Annie” tune “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” re-entered at No. 20 the week of March 20, 1999.
“Control Myself” had a previous three-week run on the Hot 100, debuting at No. 93 the week of March 11, peaking at No. 89 the following week and making what could have been a last stand at No. 95 one week after that. The song never garnered enough airplay to move any higher, but paid digital downloads kicked in this week and kicked the song back to No. 4.
“Control Myself” is LL Cool J’s biggest hit since the last time he teamed up with Jennifer Lopez. “All I Have,” credited to Jennifer Lopez featuring LL Cool J, began a four-week reign the week of Feb. 8, 2003. “Control Myself” is also the biggest hit for Lopez since “All I Have.”
“Control Myself” is the eighth top 10 hit for LL Cool J. “All I Have” remains his biggest hit, followed by “Hey Lover” in 1995 and “Loungin” in 1996. Both peaked at No. 3. “Luv U Better” also went to No. 4, in November 2002.
“Control Myself” is the ninth top 10 hit for Lopez. She’s had four No. 1 songs; in addition to “All I Have,” she topped the Hot 100 with “If You Had My Love,” “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny.” Like LL Cool J, she’s had two singles peak at No. 3: “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” and “Jenny From the Block.”
