Actually, if you’re like me, you have no clue whom to pick as a favorite for the latest edition of Survivor, which debuts tonight on CBS. So I’ll rely on two of EW’s Survivor experts, my PopWatch colleague Mike Slezak and official Survivor maven (and EW writer) Dalton Ross:
Now, Slezak, whose profiles of all 16 contestants you should read before trying anything dangerous like singling out Survivor standouts, has already picked three favorites: astronaut Dan Barry, carpenter and angler Cirie Fields, and former high school jock Danielle DiLorenzo.
Ross, who knows all about the new ”Exile Island” punishment from having spent a horrific night on the isle himself, also cited Barry as one to watch, along with tattooed lawyer Bobby Mason, Dollywood alumna Melinda Hyder, and beauty pageant queen-turned-rocket scientist Misty Giles (pictured). The smart pick, I guess, would be the hardy space traveler who’s the consensus choice, but the Ashton Kutcher in me says that, for sheer entertainment value, I can’t miss with Misty — she’s both beauty and the geek!
Who’s your early favorite?

My favorites always vary. I remember on Palau when I saw Jolanda on the pre show ads I really liked her, but when the game started I was rooting for both Angie and Stephanie all the way
! I like Danielle, I like Gary, but Misty is mystifying, and a bit alluring.
Are people still watching this show??
My money’s on Jason Lee and Steve Carell, as I’ll be watching Earl and the Office tonight. There are only 2 words that would get me to start watching Survivor and they are “shark attack”.
What idiots! Why not ditch Cerie!? You kill off Tina, the lumberjill? Because you know, she brought you fish. And water. And fire. And… stuff.
MOH-rons!!
THANK YOU SURVIVOR FOR NOT BEING PREDICTABLE!!! Everyone who was watching this show right off the bat when they saw Cerie they were thinking “oh right…first one home…” and for awhile, it looked that way until BAM! Cerie did some strategizing, pull all her cards out on the table, gathered her friends, whispered stories about Tina, then was very polite at tribal council and sat back while Tina opened her big mouth which prompted anger from Melinda. Class strategy Cerie! I have to say tho I am rooting for Misty all the way!
Last night, i did immediately have the thought-uh oh, survivor went predictable and minority #1 is going home, but alas in this case, they tribe made a horrible decision. My pick before the show started-Danielle. She still seems like a good choice.
To answer Thad’s question….yes!
Cirie is afraid of leaves, I’ll be surprised if she lasts much longer. And since the older women voted off their strongest member, they will probably have a tough time not losing challenges. That is, unless the teams are mixed up next week, which is a possibility.
The producers picked a great bunch for Survivor this time. These people want to be there and play.
Misty is mystifying. That’s a good one, Corran. She is a cutie.
Misty may have the edge – the ‘ugly straw hat’ mojo worked for Danni on last year’s Survivor, perhaps it will work here as well. Hey Nathan and Thad, we all bow down to your sophisticated tastes, but why are you so insecure?
getting rid of Tina was a mistake. They may not have liked her but she was the one who knew how to keep them alive. Cerie is gonna bust a gut any minute and watch it if she sees a BUG! Made me laugh when she said “I’m not the most physically fit of the group” or something to that effect… HELLO?!? if she doesn’t tape her boobs on the next challenge, she’ll lose them and smack someone.
