Mariah Carey has the year's top-selling CD

92859__mariah_lJust three weeks ago, it looked like 50 Cent’s The Massacre would be the top-selling CD of 2005. But Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi has overtaken it this week, edging out Fiddy’s disc 4.87 million copies to 4.83 million. Not bad, especially since Massacre has been in stores six weeks longer than Mimi. If Mimi stays the course, it’ll be the first disc by a female solo artist to top the annual sales list since Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill 10 years ago. Congrats, Mariah, and I’ll see you in Times Square for New Year’s Eve this weekend. (I’ll be the one with the funny hat.)

Mariah! Mariah! Mariah! Congrats to the chart queen, Mariah! She deserves all the praises since she worked hard for this album! The greatest comeback story of the year! I can’t wait for the Grammy Awards!

    Horrah!

  • 4-Deep

Love the CD! Esp. tracks 5~7, 12~14! Not surprised by its status! Congrats MiMi!!

That’s great. The best album of the year is actually the best selling album of the year. How appropriate.

Wow what a great year for a talentless, bloated, crazy hack who has been singing the same crap cd after cd. Obviously americans have no taste in music because there were far better cd’s out this year that deserved more attention. But again when you have radio stations with a limited playlist you are inevitably subjected to the same song over and over and over and over so simple minded people end up liking it.. go figure..

Mariah, Good songs, bad age-inappropriate outfit. Can you at least TRY to dress your age?

  • Fatima

That photo is at least 3 years old. regardless, I’m happy she beat 50 Cent. Granted, there were better CDs this year, but considering its a slim chance that a underground CD could explode, its best that the best commercial album of the year was number 1.

Thank you, Jimmy! I can’t decide whether to laugh at her ridiculousness or cry that people actually spend money to support it. I could even concede that her music might have merit but I can’t see past her enormous, scantily-clad, far-from-sexy chest.

    Haters need not apply…congrats Mimi!

eh.. I only liked one song from the whole CD – We Belong Together but whatever. I”m not surprised, the musical landscape has really taken a nose dive during the last few years in the US. I’m glad there are indie labels and underground music still going strong.
    Congrats, mariah.

I 2nd that Charlie. Haters can say what they want but Mariah’s successful year speaks for itself and the best part is you can see her thankfulness and humility through it all. We love you and Congratulate you MIMI!

Kudos to all the MC-haters! Do you know she actually has men hold her drinks and make sure the straws are in the right place so she can take tiny sips? She’s so ridiculous, and she’s been on PLENTY of top ten worst dressed lists. I’m not sure why she shortens all her dresses and decides that lingerie should be worn to music award ceremonies. My thoughts: she’s as dumb as a doornob.

i would love her cd or even bought it if radio stations didnt constantly play it over and over. The songs got tired real quick for me and i didn’t see the appeal of listening to her whine about this and that guy for over an hour. I think 50 should have got the top spot because at least his singles dont have the exact same beat.

  • Booty Licious

She is so hot. I’ll bet she doesn’t have doody bubbles like Whitney Houston!

Finally a place where I can ask: WHY THE “F” was Mariah omitted from your TOP 15 Artist of the Year? Are you kidding??? Felicity Huffman???? Really? Come on EW, give credit where it’s due…I expected 2 or 3, but totally not there is simply disrespectful.
