AOL Music has an exclusive video of Beyoncé’s spirited rendition of ”Proud Mary,” from the Kennedy Center Honors telecast airing on CBS tonight (9-11 p.m. EDT). From the hair flip, to the frantic choreography, to the fierce growl, the Destiny’s Child star pays delicious homage to honoree Tina Turner’s ”easy/rough” rendition of the Creedence Clearwater Revival classic, but even more amusing is the totally un-funky response of the older-skewing, tux-clad crowd — including Tom Brokaw, President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, Vanessa Williams, Robert Redford, and Glenn Close. In the famous words of DC3, ”I don’t think they can handle it!" How about you, PopWatchers?

I have a new found respect for Beyoncé.
Beyonce is smoking! What an amazing job. She has what we call true talent that will last
What was Kid Rock doing there?
And really, did he have to wear that fringed leather jacket?
Because it was the Kennedy Center, was that why every time the camera came in close, they shot her just from the waist up? A Tina tribute is all about the hips.
She’s no Tina.
Can’t she just simply disappear?!?!? She’s one of the most INSINCERE singers ever!!!! And a complete moron who cannot put 2 words together. Anyone ever seen her on Oprah?!?!?
Overrated!!! She can’t dance and she sounds like a billy goat. Average looking woman too.
I can’t believe the negative comments! That was a terrific performance. Sure, she’s no Tina, but who is? And Michael Slezak, you weren’t fair to the older white dudes in the audience. Kid Rock was clapping his hands completely off the beat. What was he doing there, anyway?
Bravo Beyonce. She did a great job. Remember, that version of the performance is actually a composite of 2 performances, the mic malfunctioned in the original.
Did anyone else catch George W’s obvious delight when Beyonce came onto the stage?
Beyonce is a terrific talent on top of being a lovely human being! It’s a sad world we live in when people have to suggest she can’t dance, is insincere, & the camera shying away from her hips? Most men (and some women) drool at the sight of her & she is said to be sweet, and smart as a whip! Sounds like there are some jealous people out there.
Actually…Tina’s later music, such as What’s love got to do with it”, etc. is pretty solid and hot; however, Beyonce’s rendition of Proud Mary sounds better that Tina (to me).
As for the negative comments – they really aren’t worth responding to…Beyonce is in demand and there are a thousand people who love her for every one person that doesn’t.
People post ridiculous comments just to get other people to post. Trust me…more people tuned in to see the show than there would have been if Beyonce had not performed…that’s why they honored Tina last…to save the best for last.
Also…to Nancy – I think the Michael Slezak, by saying, “unfunky response” – meant that Beyonce got the tux-clad crowd loose.
Beyonce was good but Melissa Etheridge was smokin and got the louder applause. She rocked it and had Tina’a gravely, bellowing voice to back it up.
Beyonce did the best she could do. I agree with everyone who don’t get her. What is the appeal?
Beyonce was terrific; the negative comments come from folks who wished they were as talented or attractive. Granted there is only one Tina, Beyonce held her own and was the only performance that Tina stood up for and applauded! I see an Emmy Award for Best Individual Performance in her future next September 2006.
