Former American Idols top the charts

Categories: American Idol, Music

14567__carrie_lCarrie Underwood (left) may want Jesus to take the wheel, but let there be no doubt about who’s taking charge of Billboard’s album chart this week. With Underwood’s Some Hearts (271,000 copies) lodged at No. 2, Bo Bice’s The Real Thing debuting at No. 4 (227,000 sold), and Kelly Clarkson’s Breakaway still going strong at No. 8 (180,000 moved), it’s all about discs from American Idol alumni doubling as stocking stuffers this holiday season.

Are any of those discs on your list, PopWatchers? If not, what exactly are you hoping to find under the tree? (I’m jonesin’ for Loleatta Holloway’s greatest hits, just in case Santa happens to be reading this blog.)

I already have Kelly’s, I am not interested in Carrie’s since she did not record her version of “Alone” and I’m not a huge rock fan so will not likely go for Bo’s either. Besides, I already have enough great music on my mp3 player from some of my recent purchases (Girls Aloud, Madonna, Sugababes, Texas, Bananarama, Depeche Mode) to happily last me into the beginning of next year.

I know it doesn’t come out until Jan. 3, but I would really like The Strokes’ new “First Impressions of Earth” to magically appear under my tree two weeks early.

I’m hoping to see the new deluxe edition of Madonna’s “Confessions” under my tree. When I first found out that Warner Bros. was releasing a special edition only a few weeks after the album’s initial release, I decided I would NOT be buying the album twice. You may be able to sucker millions into rebuying albums they bought only months ago, but this has gotten out of control, record labels! (And yes, Mariah and 50, I’m looking at YOU.)
    P.S. DualDiscs? Ew.
P.P.S. How cute is Michael with his Loleatta Holloway reference? All the cute ones are in N.Y.!

I own both Carrie and Kelly’s already. Listened to Bo’s on AOL and didn’t like it so I won’t be getting that. And I guess the debate over who should have been the right winner of AI4 will be settled now that Carrie outsold Bo’s first week in her fifth.

I’m definitely asking for Carrie’s CD, because I listened to Bo’s online as well and found it dull and achingly uncreative. Oh, and I’m also asking for Maroon 5’s live CD/DVD because I can’t get enough of them.

I have Carrie and Kelly’s – both great. Bo’s didn’t sound great – I only bought one song from itunes.
If you don’t have it yet, but Kimberley Locke’s CD (One Love). All of the songs are great. Really great CD.

Mary J. Blige and Bettye Lavette!

Nope, I’m going with Madonna! Bo was great on the show, but I think he’s more of a live singer. Not sure I care to just listen to him. I already have Kelly’s CD, and am actively opposed to Carrie.

I bought Kelly’s CD when it came out last year, and bought a copy for my sister for Christmas this year because she’s been stealing mine. It is truly a remarkable CD. What’s even more impressive is after never leaving the top 20 since it came out OVER A YEAR AGO, it’s back in the top 10! Talk about an incredible career move!
I also bought Carrie’s CD, and it is great, too. She has a gorgeous voice, and the material is great. I actually find myself relating to a lot of her songs. I think Carrie has a very bright future in country music, and she should definitely stick to it because she does it really well. I can’t wait until Before He Cheats comes out as a single.
I never was a Bo fan. And from what I hear, his new album is basically rock-light stuff. I definitely agree that the right person won American Idol this season. I just don’t know how Bo can make a lasting career in the music industry. He can’t really make the music he wants to make and find mainstream success because he won’t get any airplay at rock stations due to the idol stigma. So he’s trying to appeal to top 40 radio with this pop/rock material. However, his fans want to hear the kinda stuff he did on AI. Hopefully Bo can figure out some way to get rid of his idol attachment, but it’s definitely not going to be easy.

I have Bo’s and it could have been a little harder but overall it was a good listen. I wish he would have won but I was still pleased that Carrie won too. It was a great ‘Idol this year. Rock on, Bo!

I already own both Kelly’s cd and Carrie’s cd, but I have bought several copies of each of them for friends and family. As someone pointed out, Kelly’s album came out like a year ago and is still in the Top 10–virtually unheard of in the music industry. Kelly’s album is just that good, not a bad song on it and she has proved that AI can launch a very successful career. Carrie has put out the best debut cd of any of the Idols, and probably one of the best debuts in history. I wouldn’t call myself a country fan, but Carrie’s voice teamed with those songs has definitely made me a fan of her album. As for Bo, I just find him kinda boring.
    Have an American Idol Christmas!

  • Al Davis

Hey, How soon we forget. There is another equally, if not more talented AI winner. She has had a top R & B Album on the charts also. I’ll give you one guess. OK it’s Fantasia. Based on this article, I don’t trust your judgement.

Carrie’s album is amazing. Bo’s album is nothing but garbage. They have turned him into an annoying wanna-be boyfriend in love and he sings song after song to this girl he’s into and it just makes you want to puke. Bad songs, bad lyrics, bad album, waste of time.
