No, what is sickening is that people are being ridiculed for voicing their opinions. You are right..it is a movie…which in turn is reviewed and critiqued by the masses. I think it is kind of cool that something that was written with such passion and conviction causes the same reaction with the critique of the film. What’s petty is to backhand anyone’s opinion that doesn’t agree with yours.
Saw the movie last weekend, and have been thinking about it a lot. I had the CDs before seeing the show, and while I know it well, it was never my favorite because it always seemed unfinished—no disrespect to anyone, but I think if Jonathan Larson had lived they would have made the edits that most musicals get on their way to Broadway. Anyway, the movie was far from perfect, but it did have some great moments. I liked the opening, and it was special to see (most) of the original cast, especially Jesse and Idina. The changes didn’t make much sense, it’s true, and I missed the song “Hallowe’en”. It was wonderful to see two men happily in love onscreen (I always loved that Angel and Collins have the most functional relationship). A little more imagination would have helped, but it wasn’t a run-of-the-mill movie, and yay for that!
Christopher Columbus should stop making movies.
Mimi DID die in the Movie. She dided on that table. When she “cae back” she was healthy “healed” and the urgency of her compatriots was gone. It was symbolic, it may have been a little “dumbed-down.” But of you think of it logically: would you have sat down and watched a movie right after your friend’s heart started beating again? No?
I loved the movie soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much I never got to see it live and I hope one day I will. To bad it won’t be the original cast. I am a new rent head. Every time I see the movie I become part of it. It captures me in it like no other. I am such a Thespian I love musicals drama and acting. I hope to find the recored version with the original cast to own on video so far no luck I don’t think they made a video. That sucks!! If they did someone let me know please!!!!!!!
I saw the movie-not the play, and although I liked parts and most of the music I didn’t rate it as a must must see. However, I just watched a very ill little girl(no, not aids) on the view telling Rosie O’donnel and the audience that Rent was her alltime favorite and she had watched it countless times. The girl was 12. All I could do was shake my head and think “what’s wrong with this picture?”
well.. i just want to say that RENT is one of the best movies out there. before i saw it, i thought it was going to be stupid but my best friend made me watch it. turns out i LOVED it!
its amazing. seriously. the people who dont like it usually say its because they hate singing and/or hate gays. the kind of people who would like this movie enjoy musicals and plays. and dont discriminate against gays, or people with AIDS
sure the movie could have done a little better here and there, but the story is awesome, and thats the most important part. theres only one thing that disappoints me. the goodbye love song was edited out and i think that would have been the best song of the movie.
cant wait to see it live
